Menzies Barons Court Hotel

I was agreeably surprised by my experience, having read the reviews posted on this site. I was not looking forward to the trip but the hotel was fresh and the only part you could possibly complain about was the scuffed area where guests had bumped cases into the awkwardly placed lift. Our room was excellent and spacious. The double glazing kept out what traffic noise there was but we did not feel the room was stuffy. The bathroom was very good. Luckily only booked one night.Room very dated,advocado coloured bathroom suite except toilet seat that had obviously been broken and replaced with a white one!Room not exactly the cleanest.Bed was the most uncomfortable bed I had slept in-rock hard mattress.Hotel obviously not full-saw one other couple at breakfast-so why did't they put us up in a refurbished room(hotel info implies hotel refurbished).How this ranks as a four star I do not know.

I stayed here because I wanted a 4 star experience as I was entertaining important business colleagues from the area. Very disappointed the minute I arrived but it was too late. Pot holes in the car park, narrow smelly corridors and a very poor menu and wine list. Very embassasing the whole thing.

Paid £60 at the weekend for this room, which was fine - but would be sorely disappointed if I had paid the rack rate of £100+. The lobby and common areas are well kitted out but the bedrooms are nothing to write home about. About the same quality as (an aged) Travel Lodge. It does have a spa / pool, full room service, bar etc (which is presumably where the 4 star rating comes from). On the whole, OK, but nothing special.
