A little tired but great value
Stayed here on business aand was amazed to find I could bag a room on a weekday night for just £49 plus 1000 bonus Holiday Inn Priority Club points as well. The hotel is located close to the M6 Toll road and the A38 (about 15 miles into Birmingham) on a leisure park comprising a gym, a grill restaurant and a Mc Donalds, so nice and handy for an overnight business / leisure stay. Service was efficient and the rooms were comfortable and warm, if a little tired in terms of decor and amenities. Ask for a gym-facing room to avoid... more
Value for money
The hotel was ideally situated for Drayton Manor Theme Park. We booked a family room for 4 for 2 nights. The total cost was £109 including continental breakfast. The hotel was clean and modern, the room was very impressive with everything we needed including a power shower, it looked like it had been recently refurbished. The breakfast was self service but adequate for our needs. Staff helpful. No restaurant but reception can ring to order takeaways which you can eat in the bar/breakfasting area or in your room. No complaints... more
Front desk staff not helpful
Booking in was like dealing with a machine no smile or hello, just name, sign there, your room number is and then you see them go back into the office. You have to guess which way to go to your room. The room was clean and up to the usual standard. If you want a drink the bar does not open until 5o'clock and does not have much selection. You have to tender the correct money as they apparently do not keep change in the till. After 10:30pm you cannot pay by cash for some reason. Breakfast is the usual continental effort. If the... more
great hotel
Stayed at this hotel as a play and stay theme park break. Great staff, really clean rooms, the rooms were a great size. The hotel is in a ideal location for Drayton Manor, also very close to city centre so eating out is not a problem. There is a macdonalds on site also. Overall great stay, breakfast basic, but great for everyone
Evening Meal is an issue
Hotel is easy to find and of the usual Express standard. I was due to stay 2 nights, and had confirmation of this from my booking agency , but the hotel only had me down for 1 night. Luckily they had capacity to change my booking without a problem. Now if you don't fancy a Macdonalds the hotel does a limited "microwave" menu. I decided to go to the sport centre across the car park - this turned out to be far from a smart move! I wasn't expecting a fantastic quality of food so I played safe and ordered Scampi and chips. The service... more
Expensive for what you get
One of the most expensive Holiday Inn Expresses you'll find outside London (£72.50 per night). Nowhere to eat nearby, unless you fancy the McDonalds next door (I didn't). It's on a major road intersection so access is good, however it's miles from anywhere I wanted to be. Room was standard HI Express, so no surprises. Breakfast same as every other branch.
Nightmare with over booking
I booked this hotel through my travel agent at work, at the time the travel agent made clear in the booking that I would be arriving late. On the morning of my stay I also rang the hotel to inform them that I would be arriving late (after mid night) and wanted to check it wouldn't be a problem, the assured me everything was fine. I arrived at the hotel at about 12.15am, I was a lone female, which they should have been abe to tell from my booking. When I arrived at the hotel I was told it was completely over booked and I would have to... more
Affordable and good value hotel
Hotel room was clean and spacious. The only complaint I have is that there was no bath only a shower. View was not fantastic - though location was really good. If you need a cheap night somewhere near Birmingham I would recommend it.
Highly recommended
Not a pretty location, but impeccably clean accommodation, a great breakfast and a reasonable price. Just off the M6 toll road so easy communications. Particularly good for families with large family rooms.
Perfect for the Parks!
A fantastic base for a weekend break especially for nearby Alton Towers & Drayton Manor theme parks. The only slight let-down was the location, i.e: not very picturesque & very few nearby shops or facilities (car essential). Otherwise the comfort level & value for money were beyond compare in this price range.
