Hotel is situated bout 5 mins walk from main railway station. A former monastery according to the blurb, it is small and very clean and well presented inside.
Reception staff all male on the miserable side of unhappy, we arrived at appropriate check in time but room not ready, so popped across the road to a ice cream /coffee bar to wait - you will find lots of these around the city - not great if not a fan of ice cream, but good coffee everywhere, washing down a baci chocolate or two - very nice.
The lift is tiny barely room for 2 people and luggage, corridors also on narrow side but fine. Room very nice and clean with comfortable bed, LCD TV complete with some sky channels - nice to get English news. Mini bar but no tea/coffee facilities which was unusual.
Bathroom well equipped and compact, though the finish on the tile works was questionable and not what I would have expected of these star rated hotel.
We had a balcony of sorts shared with another room that over looked a glass roof into the foyer and was obviously used as smoking area by those in adjoining room - with cigarette butts left outside the whole time we stayed. Cleaners did not venture out there.
The temperature in the room is controlled from elsewhere despite having thermostat there as was unbearably warm most of the time, and given the shared balcony we did not want to leave only window/door open unless we were awake in the room.
Breakfast was buffet style with wide choice of meats cereals and more - plenty of choice.
Every thing in Florence is walking distance - albeit a long one at times, the streets for the most are narrow and cobbled, dirty, and lined with pedlars trying to sell you something every 10 yds or so, which after the first day became very tiresome having to say no to so many, whilst trying to take in the sites.
There is also high street crime rate with even the receptionist at the hotel warning you.
I had a teenage boy try to dip into by bag - but I caught him doing it, police basically do not seem to want to know.
Eating is fairly cheap in Florence apart of course from the odd exception and though limited variety of cuisine.
Traffic heavy as with any large city.
Lots of churches to visit and lots of galleries, the Ulfrezzi being the largest and imho the best one.
There are tourist info centres but tucked away from main attractions so bit of a trek but very helpful when you do find them - be warned as with the rest of Florence dirty and uncared for.
Train from Pisa airport clean and comfortable and good value at around £4 one way for just over an hrs journey.
Personally I would say yes, a day visit to Florence but watch your bags and have shower afterwards as so dirty and grim.
