decrepit 'bungalows/villas' .main hotel ok

This could be a beautiful hotel, in fact most of it is....unless,that is, you are staying in a bungalow or villa away from the main building. The 5* 2 bedded bungalows are just terrible. cracking, stained walls and ceilings, awful prefab build, peeling paintwork and rotting doors. Not exactly what i'd hoped from a 5* property even if this is by Turkish standards, i have stayed in amazing 2 and 3 star properties in Turkey. This is a total insult. I heard, however, that the accommodation within the main hotel itself is fine and as per brochure description. Beware if booking this hotel. Ensure you are in a room in the main building.

Where do you start. Due to the a double booking we only stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Halfway through our holiday we left the lovely Aqua in Icemeler and moved to this hellhole. Alarm bells started ringing when the transport the hotel sent for us was the laundry van, complete with cracked windscreen and no seatbelts in the front. As there were four of us myself and my mate jumped in the back and let the girls sit in the front. To be fair that was probably the most helpful person that worked for the hotel.
Arriving at the hotel reception looked quite nice, that was the only thing that was 4 star. We were duly allocated our room. It was an absolute hole. Dusty and the door to the toilet was all split at the bottom, the carpet had more stains than carpet and the airconditioning had two wires hanging from the wall whee the control unit should have been. We had been warned about this and were told that it would take an hour to fix. We went to the pool and went back an hour later, still not fixed. We left it and went out for the afternoon, returning at 6. Guess what it still wasn't fixed and they had left the full unit open and a pair of stepladders in the room. We had no electricity either.
I had already asked for another room but had been told the hotel was full, again I returned to reception. Ant and Dec were still working and were no help whatsoever. I was told that it wasn't hot so I didn't need air conditioning. No other room available.
Eventually the guest relation manager granted me two minutes of her time. She still kept her two friend who she was chatting to in her office so as not to disrupt her busy schedule. I am afraid to say I lost the plot. Not having a room ready 6 hours after arrival is not acceptable. A very shabby room at that.
She agreed I had a point and within 5 minutes there were four guys in yellow t shirts with a new air conditioning unit in place. The cleaning manager also appeared with a hoover. It says a lot about the hotel that I had to go off in one to get a 15 minute repair fixed though.
Onto the food and drink, food was okish, plenty of it but the waiting staff were way to few. The boys tried but were fighting a losing battle trying to service the ammount of people who were all dining at the same time. The drink was plentiful, you need to tip to get good service though, this doesn't really bother me though as I know they have a very hard job and a little extra go's a long way for them.
The general grounds were lovely and well tended but the full place needs gutted, everything in all the public areas is very, very shabby.
Honestly do not under any circumstances consider booking this hotel it is an utter dive.

Booked a couple of weeks before half term with two tennagers. ON arrival were given aroom with no sea view but we returned to reception and were given a new room straight away. Rooms very clean . Maid service very good and friendly; towels changed everyday. Temperature around 26 degs so turned off air con and left window open . Food very good with loads of choice but evening meal not good for young children. No potatoe or chips. None of us had upset stomach. Was very quite at hotel so no problem with sun beds as all English. The only shock was the hour went back so the sun went down at 3pm. So we got up early and sat on the jetty where you got the sun longer. All the staff were fantastic. On the evenings they made us cocktails to try and all the drinks being included saved us a lot of money. All the drinks were good even cola and free bottled water when requested. We would all go here again but not when main hol season

Keep away

I would rather save my time and money and choose another hotel. Although accomodation made for mid October 2008 the hotel management decided to shutdown aircondition while temperatures were above 34C. I was adviced by front desk to open the window, however big turkish muskitos bites us all, futunately we were not prepared for such hitchs and no medical panacea was available.
No fancy room and food was boring.
The only pron I can tell is the view which is outstanding.

To my opinion: Try another Target.

Well what can i say? The hotel is...

Sep 2008, SWABBA

Well what can i say? The hotel is nice the bungalow that we were in was very nice as we overlooked the sea. The hotel name has changed and we now know why! The russians have landed!!! Yes it is owned by Russians and the place is full of them. I have never met such an ignorant rude breed before in my life!! We stayed here with 3 teenagers nothing for them to do as all the entertainment was in russian all the music was in russian, there was fighting over the sunbeds!! You had to get up before 7am to guard your beds because if you left them with towels on the russians would think nothing of taking your sunbeds!! I am glad we were self catering because we went out every single night to get away from them!! Very expensive for drinks in hotel over t wice as much as Marmaris and Icmeler!! I would go back again if they got rid of the russians they have spoilt a beatufull place with their prescence.
I will go back to turkey but will stay in Icmeler it is much nicer and there are no russians there!!

Arriving after midnight our first...
7 / 10
Aug 2008, Mrs S Rutter

2 readers found this review helpful

Arriving after midnight our first impression was wow, a golf buggy took us and our luggage to our villa and the porter ran thru eveything in the room.
The views from the hotel are fantastic and the hotel itself is quite impressive but as written in other reviews this is not a 5 star hotel by British standards. Our villa was spacious and had two bedrooms and was clean but is probably due a refit as the bathroom was showing its age and the living space was tired, I must say that the air con was brilliant and was very welcome as the temperature rarely dropped below 38 the entire two weeks.
The hotel is a mix of nationalities, we never found this a problem, all the staff spoke English and apart from a few rude tourists, we found everyone really friendly and polite. There is an issue with the sunbeds being reserved early but this involved the Brits as well. One pointer, the pool attendant goes out early and places towels on different beds around the pool, If you arrive late and cannot find a bed have a word with him and he will take these towels off and bring you the bed. He does this for a tip of course but it is worth a few lira not to have to get up at seven.
We found the food OK, there were different foods out every day and you can have as much or as little as you want, you can also help yourself to the free soft drink machines scattered around the hotel. Please note that if you are half board do not mis-read the form given to you on arrival. It states "Half Board Concept" and lists opening times for breakfast, lunch and dinner which can give the impression that lunch can be eaten free of charge (we thought you may be able to substitute lunch for dinner - you cannot) if you do make the mistake of taking lunch you will be charged £20.00 a head.
The hotel is very very expensive for drinks, we paid 7 lira for half a pint of beer, I would suggest just nipping to the shop in the hotel where you can buy cans much cheaper. We went out of the hotel every evening, it is just a 10 minute walk to the nearest bars in Marmaris which are a lot cheaper (around 3/4 lira for a pint) and having two teenage girls (13 + 15) there was more going on than in the hotel. Ichmeler is around 20 minutes walk away and again even in the hotel bars is cheaper. We ate out a few times and found the prices good. Lineakers Bar in Icmeler do a cracking English Breakfast!
The water sports are fantastic and worth the money. If you have Sterling you pay a bit less, we did the Ringos (£8 per person), Parasailing (£25), Jetskis (£25) and hired a speedboat for an hour (£30), the watersports centre is just outside the hotel and you can just turn up, the guys that run it are very friendly. We also went on a boat trip one day which was fantastic and cost around £11.00 each, meal included and 5 stops to jump in the sea and swim. well worth the cost.
We had a fantastic holiday, it is what you make it, the hotel is a good base with plenty going on during the day, I cannot comment on the evening entertainment as we did not stay in once during our time there. You do get quite a lot of harrasement walking about outside, especially if you have a teenage girl with blonde hair!, the market at Icemeler was especially indictive of this, it was impossible to walk two strides without names being called etc (Full of cheap imitations by the way), but after a while you become immune and ignore them. One word of warning if, like us, it is your 1st time at Dalaman airport - it is VERY expensive, take the Reps advice on the coach and eat at the comfort stop. There is also very tight security and you must not take any "Dodgy" tobacco thru (it must bear the Turkish Tax Paid stamp).

Having just returned from Marmaris...
5 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr S D JOHNSON

Having just returned from Marmaris Mares and what can we say but very disappointed with the overall standards. We went last year and had a fantastic holiday that's why we booked again this year, but having found out they have had a change in management it has seriously affected the standard of this hotel. The room we were allocated first was nothing better than a 1 star room dirty, smelly and in need of renovation it took us 3 days of complaining to the most rude, obnoxious reception staff before we were finally moved to a room we had previously been in 2007. Also having booked to go all inclusive we expected the same 1st class food and drink standard as previously experienced last year, however the drinks were undrinkable the worst gin and tonic I ever had and most of the drinks were tasteless, the evening meal in the yanis restaurant resembled something out of the 1950's Butlins holiday camp, having to queue for food for at least 45 minutes if you went later than 7.30 pm, with the Russian's constantly pushing and shoving, and to top it all you had to get up at 7.00 am to reserve your bed then guard it with your life. It is such a shame a fantastic hotel has changed in 1 year because the location is brilliant and some of the Turkish staff try really hard to please.

My partner and I had an absolute...

Jul 2008, Miss S Flower

My partner and I had an absolute brilliant time at this hotel. The staff are exceptional. They are friendly and very helpful. I did not think they favoured one nationality over another. I must agree with other reviews that unfortunately the Russian guests were extremely ill mannered. The German guests in true style would reserve sunbeds in the morning and only use them in the afternoon! However there were enough sun loungers to go around.
The food was plentiful and good. People complain, especially English guests (Im English) that the food is different! Doh! if you want English food stay in Britain.
The hotel rooms are a high standard and the air con and safe is free unlike some cheaper shoddier hotels.
Beware fellow tourists - do not buy perfume/aftershave in Marmaris - it is fake!

We have just arrived home after one...
7 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs G STIRLING

We have just arrived home after one week at the Mares hotel. There were 5 of us in total (3 teenagers). We were very very impressed with the hotel and the location. The scenery is just breath taking. Our appartment was very clean and we received fresh towels and beds made every day. The negative sides were that the flumes (which we particulary wanted for the kids) are only on for an hour per day. But the biggest shock was how expensive the hotel was for drink. On our first day, we ordered 5 rolls with cheese, which came wrapped in clingfilm and we were charged £17.00 for them, then we made the mistake of ordering soft drinks. These came (5 cokes) and we were charged £15.00. So would def not eat or drink in the hotel, always ask price first. We however, found fantastic restaurants in icmeler the chef and the Dream boys, they offer to collect you at your hotel and will drop you back as and when you require at no cost. The steaks are also to die for, recommend the Tornedo fillet on plank at Dream boys. Entertainment at Dream boys will have you in stitches. (teenagers lovedd it). The meals were very reasonable and no one tried to con us with drink prices in icmeler. Wish i could have said the same about Marmaris, went in had a meal and would not return again. People less pleasant and bill came with alot of added extras which we hadnt ordered. They will literaly charge you for the onions that came with your steak. So BEWARE. WE ALL LOVED OUR HOLIDAY AND I AM JUST GOING TO BOOK UP FOR THIS TIME NEXT YEAR. but we are thinking of going all inclusive with the veiw to eating out at night, as drinks are so so expensive... Just arrived back from the Mares...
7 / 10
Jun 2008, Mrs K Butt

Just arrived back from the Mares Hotel and well what can I say the previous reviews we had read were great but how things have changed this year there has been a change in management and the hotel is full of Russians most of the staff speak only Russian along with the animation team also, the Russians have paid considerably less to stay at the hotel than the British and also what more for nothing. The pool well towels are given out at 9.00am if you are British but if you are Russian they are put out on the sunbeds and reserved for you I saw this with my own eyes happen. The food is good quality but everything you could possibly want, vegetables, salads, meat , pasta, pizzas the food catered for all different types, the only problem was that although dinner finished at 9.30pm if something ran out at say 8.15pm it was tough it had all gone. Although there are rules about not being allowed to use the pool tables unless with an adult this was totally ignored by the Russians and they would normally be found running around the hotel causing havoc whilst there parents drank in the bars. Well what more can I say if the hotel was filled iwht all Brits they would possibly be drunk and wanting to fight the world, just a happy medium would have been nice. There are very limited activitied for children above say 9/10 years through to teenagers which is why they possibly behaved like this boredom. The hotel boasts being a 5 star yet I heard several British people complaining to their rep Thomas Cook saying that it wasnt 5 star but well by Turkey standards it probaly is but if you are comparing it to say Dubai or London then its not. The views from the restaurants are fanastic, it hotel even has its own helipad and mooring points would I return probably not due to the Russians too many of them there with no manners. We did meet some lovely English
