I have now stayed in golmar beach 2 times after just getting back on the 13th august. Golmar beach is a recommended hotel of mine. It is situated right on the beach meaning no huge walks down to the beach in the morning. You can always get a sunbed, whether it be around the... more

Great holiday !!!!!!!
I can't really say a bad thing about Golmar beach, it had everything we could want !! we stayed at the end of august for a week ! the hotel is a good standard 3 star, breakfast is basic but does the job. The pool is large and the slides are great fun for all ages, our room was 615 on the top floor and it was excellent, the door handle was a pain though ! all the staff could not do enough for you, they work so many hours for not much money, respect to them and thanks. A visit to the mud baths is a must you should view the boat that you will travel on first as we felt a bit like sardines! Haggle the prices on everything as they expect it ! It was our first trip to turkey and like everyone we had heard scare stories, what a load of rubbish ! You don't know, if you don't try, is my motto, Icmeler is great, not tacky like marmaris ! YET ! hope it doesn't lose it's charms. My only gripe with the room was that the extractor fan for the A.C blew onto the balcony making it too hot at times to sit out ! Liberty's next to the hotel do a great meal and sitting on the jetty is the icing on the cake, katie said the spag bog rivals even venice standards !!!!!!! With the price being good and a setting that is second to none, give the Golmar a try !
Lovely View
Date - 5 Sep 2007 Reviewer - Tripadvisor Merseyside Got back yesterday morning after long night flight. Myself, husband and 2 kids 12 and 9 really enjoyed this holiday. Room was basic but only 3 * so didn't expect too much and the view of the harbour and mountains and location more than made up for this. Kids loved slides. Realised that if you came down pink one (bare bum) they came down 3 times as fast! Found pool pretty quiet most of time because some people spent day on hotel's private part of the beach especially for couples who didn't have kids. Sat on roof terrace every day. L ovely and quiet up there with beatiful view of harbour one side but could still watch kids in the pool the other side. No trouble getting sunbeds. First holiday my husband hasn't had too get up early to put towels down! We stayed bed and breakfast but only got up twice in 2 weeks but found it fine. Toast, meat, cheese, boiled eggs, beans, cake, melon, juice, coffee etc. Didn't even have to get off sunlounger to get drinks and snacks as Ahmet came to you. He works really hard and long hours as well as other staff. Pizzas were lovely and fresh for pool side snack. Weather was very hot every day but felt bit cooler on beach as there was lovely breeze. Only fault of Golmar paid £4 day air con and £1 day fridge but activated by key so when you where out of the room you couldn't leave it on. It was welded on to keyring but after few days got someone out of one of bars to cut it off! Made big difference. After all was paying extra for it. Also, fridge wasn't very cold and didn't have ice compartment. Icmeler nicer than Marmaris. Quieter and prettier and don't harrass you as much. Plenty of nice restaraunts especailly Thaj Mahal for Indian and Venice by the canal. Basically you got what you paid for food wise you could eat cheaply but if you wanted really nice meal would be more expensive. Usually about 90 lira for 4 of us with drinks. Could get english breakfast between £1 -£2 at any of restaraunts. Went on boat trip with food and drinks included through Mr No on beach. First one at beginning of beach. Cheapest place to book trips. Jack Sparrow was man we booked through! 12 lira each. Half price for 12 year old and free for 9 year old. All day trip picking you up at hotel and getting boat from Marmaris and returning to harbour 5 mins away from Golmar. Stop offs to swim in nice bays. Entertainment in most places in evening. Elvis, Michael Jackson, Grease, Robbie Williams, break dancing etc. 12 year old daughter loved Wonderboys. Got you up dancing and turkish lads dancing. Very lively in there. Mirage Bar nice for breakfast and bit quieter at night. Apple and Curly looked after us and had good laugh with them. Our room was bit small but adequate. Had 3 single beds and camp bed for 9 year old. Beds very comfortable and couldn't hear much noise from outside and above. Bathroom clean with shower cubicle and water was always hot. On 4th floor. Found out bigger rooms on other side but as only sleeping in room it was fine. Got taxi from Dalaman to hotel. Quicker in taxi about 1 and half hours and cost £60 but if you book transfer through hotel £90 there and back! All in all Golmar good value for money. Most people we spoke to had booked last minute and had got really good price so was better than expected for money.
Hot, Hot, Hot!!!!!!!!
We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Golmar Beach. It is a lovely hotel and the staff, cant do enough for you, Ahmet who brings you drinks at the pool and beach is a wee darling and super Ali, tried his best to make us laugh. The rooms are nicely furnished with a lovely shower room, could be slightly bigger though, as there was three of us, someone had to sleep on a campbed for 2 weeks!! They do have a handful of larger family rooms though, so do ask.. Maid service was bit eratic, somedays they did, others they didnt, we waited 6 days to get new bedding. The hotel pool is a good size with two chutes for the kids, it did get very crowded and you would struggle to get a sunbed after 8am and the tanning deck's flooring is metal and at 47 degrees it can burn your feet, so take precausion.. We went on the beach most days though, as there was more of a breeze and more sunbeds, but mind the fish, as the bite!!? We unfortunaly had an accident while at the hotel, my partner & daughter were on the balcony and I was in the room, the door was open and I closed it without looking and my partner was coming in and his arm caught the door and the glass shattered everwhere, as it is not safety glass, myself and my partner had deep cuts and I had to have stitches. The hotel staff were very helpful in the fact they rushed to our room, as our daughter was screaming on the balcony due to the amount of blood coming from a deep cut to my wrist, we were taking to the hotel doctor and then given another room. The fault is not with the Golmar Beach but with Thomas Cook, as it isnt the first time this has happened at the Golmar.. my only concern is what if it had been a child???? Icmeler itself is very pretty, I do think it caters too much for the British though,if it doesnt watch out, I think its going to lose its charm and end up like Marmaris.. I was sick fed up after 2 weeks of every 10 yards someone trying to pull you into their restuarant or bar.. and the Macareena!!!???? We ate out everynight and only had one bad meal, at the Pop Inn, we all ordered lasagna it took more than a hour to come out and when it arrived it tasted horrible and it was cold on middle, we told 2 waiters and they both were rude, none of us ate it but they still took our 70 lira!! The Chinese at top of the canal is good and after 9.30pm you get bogof on all drinks. The Waterfall, isnt what its made out to be and was so busy we waited nearly 2hrs on meal. There is a restaurant on the canal, its opp Vience and looks like a old traditional house, its lovely and serves homemade Turkish dishes and the staff were so friendly. Our favourite by far though, is Liberties it is on the waterfront next door to the hotel, you can sit on a jetty having your meal by candlelight, it is so romantic and the food is to die for, especialy the deep fried ice cream.. Sammy and the boys are charming!! Drink is not so cheap in Turkey, around the same prices we pay back home 10 lira for a southern comfort and the shops are not cheap either, so buy at duty free before you get there.. And dont be conned by the english breakfasts for a £1 as they then charge you 18 lira for 3 orange juice!! We did a few excursions too, the Jeep Safari was great (just remember to take a watergun), The mud baths were good too, Turtle beach is great for the waves alone. We also did the boat trip from the hotel, which was good for a £10 each, but we were bored with stopping and jumping into the sea after 8hrs!! A turkish bath is a must, we went to the Mirage Hotel, and it was around 100 lira for the 3 of us, which incl a oil massage, it was an experience which I was made to do by my otherhalf, but loved it once it was over!! My otherhalf also had a shave at the hotel and the barber is a great guy, only 7 lira a shave and face/neck massage.. The only downside to the holiday was the night flights, they are a killer. Plus its over 2 1/2hrs from the airport to the resort, with all the drop off's.. My advice 'get a taxi'!!! As for Mcdonalds at the airport.. 2 happy meals for £16!!!!??? Overall we had a lovely holiday with the exception of the accident and would recommend both the Golmar Beach and Icmeler, we wouldnt go back, but that's only because we never go to the same place twice.. Have fun & Enjoy!!!
A Hotel to visit again and again!
Just got back - at 5 this morning! Booked this hotel as a last minute holiday and had no great expectations. After all, got a great deal! What can I say - although it was sold to us as 4 star, I would say a 3 star, a bit of a tired 3 star at that. But don't let this put you off - we would give the staff, especially Ahmet (who must be the busiest waiter at the poolside or on the beach) FIVE stars!!!!!! They really can't do enough for you. The hotel is lovely and clean and the service of everyone, cleaners, waiters, bar staff, reception is excellant. You walk from the steps by the pool over a footpath and the hotel private beach is right in front of you. 2 minutes from hotel bedroom door to sunbed - can't beat that! You can lie on your sunbed all day and they will bring you your drinks, ice creams, lunch, virtually anything! If it's not on the menu, ask! We fancied some melon for lunch one day, thought we'd ask - got 2 plates of water and honey dew for about 60p a plate (and they were huge portions). The food was basic, we were half board and did eat out sometimes because we didn't fancy what was on the menu - but we found that it was cheap to do that and made a nice change anyway. Always plenty of choice though, but would suggest you get to your table (you can sit anywhere) for the opening time of the dining room. We found that they would run out of things and didn't always replace them. The pool area can get a bit noisy with having water slides in it, but use the raised sun terrace, a lot quiter and a real sun trap.(be warned though, the floor of this sun terrace is metal, keep some flip flops on or you'll have fried feet). We think that this hotel has the best position in the resort, the views really are amazing. We had room 530, temps were in the 40's all week - pay for the air con - not that bad a price and worth every penny. We also booked the fridge which again was not that expensive. Safety deposit boxes are by reception - who also gave us the best exchange rates, better that the uk. (£100 - 250 ytl). The hotel runs it's own boat trip with a bbq for lunch - worth the £10 per person it costs, you'll have a great day. Take some cash with you though, they sell cold drinks and beer on board and an "icecream boat" comes alongside 2 or 3 times during the day, he's a little more expensive but worth it if only for strangeness of it! You'll swim in some of the most beautiful water ever seen. Be prepared to get wet though - i'll say no more! We're looking to go back in October - families we spoke to have been returning for years (some 9) - what else can we say but - WE LOVED IT !!!!!!
excellent value hotel
Icmeler was recommended to us as a great family resort and fufiled all our expectations . The Golmar Beach is a great hotel to stay at a reasonable price , right on the beach with good facilities and very friendly staff. Views of the bay are excellent and breakfast on the vine covered terrace is a real treat. The local restaurants are good with something to cater for all tastes and the shopping excellent. The only gripe was the air con. in the hotel was not to standard and had to be paid for seperately but as it was 48.f in the shade i suppose it had its work cut out. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and we hope to holiday again there next year - Martin
It was Excellent! the people are great
The golmar beach hotel was Excellent, the hotel is right near the harbor for them boat trips, loads of shops, taxi bout to marmaris, the staff were really nice, nice for children, i cant wait to go back next year. :o)
you cannot fault it
great pool, fantastic views from balcony, clean, friendly and its all you could want in a hotel. not tried the food as i always go self cate. but from what i hear, it wasnt that bad. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED HOTEL.
Perfect location!
This hotel is really lovely and perfectly situated. The hotel staff are friendly. The rooms are spacious (6th floor rooms are anyway!). Please go to the old village for a fabulous evening out -Captain Sinbad's restaurant - right next to the Mosque - just follow the mosque minorette and it's next-door. Ali and his staff will look after you like you are family! It's only a 10 minute walk away and well worth it.
Loved it loved it loved it
We have just returned from a fantastic fortnight in Icmeler staying at the Golmar Beach. When we arrived, we were given the choice of 2 large rooms - both had fantastic views and were a great size. We opted for room 327 as it had the most spectactular view of the bay and beyond. As it was the start of the season, there was only one other person staying in the hotel when we arrived. Rather than being served our meals buffet style, they were brought to our table and laid out like a banquet. The evening meals were fantastic (diet starts tomorrow!). Breakfasts were typically turkish - bread, meats cereals, salad etc - good but a bit samey after a while. The staff at the Golmar will go out of their way to make you and your family feel welcome. Kerim at reception is a lovely, kind and extremely helpful man. OJ, Sevosh, Ali and Wyad were also great. Icmeler itself is a great resort - 100% better than Marmaris which we thought was trashy. Expect to be "encouraged" to go into bars and restaurants but we found the best way to deal with it is to be pleasant, take a card and say "maybe later". If you are rude or ignore them, you will get hassled until you respond - it's sport to them! Also, if you have small children with you, expect a lot of attention - the turkish people love kids. We returned from our walks laden with sweeties, lollipops, balloons, bobbles etc. Sometimes, the attention given to our 23 month old daughter was a bit OTT but in the main, people were very kind and considerate. If you are fortunate enough to be heading to Icmeler, we would recommend Liberty Bar on the beach for a great lunch. Champagne bar was also a great place to eat and drink and the staff were hilarious. Also - Zazas Havana Club Bar was a hoot - if you go, you are guaranteed to leave grinning from ear to ear at Zaza's antics. HOWEVER.... Turkey isn't as cheap as you might think. Buy your spirits at the Duty Free or on the plane. A bottle (not a litre) of Bacardi will set you back about £20, Jack Daniels about £30. Bottle of locally produced wine £10. In the bars expect to pay about £4 for imported spirits and about £1.50 for Efes beer. A large soft drink will cost about £2.50. If you are a smoker, I believe that the cigarettes are pretty cheap but none of us smoke so I couldn't give an idea of prices. All in all, we had a wonderful time and will be looking to return to Icmeler and the Golmar Beach Hotel next year. Can't wait!
Enjoyable stay
Just returned from Turkey after a very enjoyable time. We were initially given room no. 209 (to the left of the pool when facing the sea) which was small. The carpets were dirty and there wasn't even any soap in the bathroom. We were very suprised to find that our friends who were staying at the opposite end of the hotel had a room twice the size of ours which was generally much nicer with a beautiful view. We asked to be moved and were given the room next to theirs (no. 326). It was much bigger and cleaner too. It had a view of the sea and the whole of Icmeler even up to Marmaris. The breakfast was basic but adequate and dinner was excellent. Kerim at the front desk was extremely helpful, even arranging transport to and from the airport and at less than half the cost of the med hotels rep. The beaches are nothing to write home about but adequate to sun yourself. The boat trips were well worth it, especially the one to the mud baths, just sit away from the speakers or have some ear plugs. Appears to cater largely to clients from eastern block.
