Marvellous introduction to Turkey
The Miray is a lovely privately owned hotel and well deserves it's 3***. The hotel in general is imaculate, rooms clean and serviced every day with clean towels - even get the artistic designs of towels and bedding - fans and swans mostly, but just emphasises the care taken to ensure a good stay. - toiletries and hairdryer provided. Staff very pleasant and helpful and they just love young children, my son(8) was made to feel very special, by all the ~Turkish to be fair. Restaurant on top floor of hotel with fab views out to sea and the castle - the castle looks like it is floating at night! Breakfast and dinner are served buffet style. Breakfast has choice of salads , cereal, bread, jam etc and the chef will cook you an omelette to order - there is also usually a choice of other hot food of the egg variety. At dinner the food is fresh and plentiful, hot and cold and as much as you like, the puddings are all turkish so very sweet and mostly pastry but delicious. Not a lot to do in hotel in evening but nice to sit at lovely pool bar and have a quiet drink or two - great base for those looking for a lively night life. Hotel has good size comfortable lounge with TV - we took portable DVD player and were allowed to plug it in to their TV which my son loved. Play room for younger children and darts and snooker for the older ones. Pool a good size and cleaned every morning so nice and fresh. Didn't have problem getting sun bed at all as a few quests, as did we, go to the beach across the road(the road was very busy and noisy - only negative!) the beach is very clean as is all public areas and hotel has designated area with beach bar/restaurant. If you tip the waiters at the beach they will look after you and they are not greedy either. The sea is amazing and at times the waves are tremendous and it's hilarious trying to get in and out and stay on your feet not to mention keep hold of your swimwear!. Trips - do go on the Discover Alanya trip booked through the hotel with the Med Rep Jimmy, costs £30 per adult, children free and takes you to the important sights, really enjoyed it. Otherwise book through travel rep just to right of hotel, good choice and not expensive, a boat trip will cost 30TL (approx £12.00) with food. There is a water world just up the road, litterally, next to Burger King which we enjoyed, again very clean and pleasant, cost my son and I 46TL which included lunch. Didn't enjoy Water Planet as much as very big and found food awful, but plenty to do if you have the energy. All in all a very enjoyable stay, weather as expected v. hot but not too hot to spoil holiday if careful. Would definately go to Miray again and am planning at this very moment. One last thing or two, take turkish lira and don't bother with euro, you get a better deal and less hassle, of course most shops do take euro but why bother, the turkish lira is worth just short of 50p so easy to work out. Wine and spirits very expensive but local efes beer ok cost about 4tl (£2) per pint. Also if you like your tea then you will surely miss it when in ~Turkey if you go to the bar/shop next to the travel agency just to the right of the hotel(as you come out) the couple there are lovely and will make you very welcome and will make you a lovely cup of tea.
