La Villa Hotel Reviews

Feb 2008, Miss D Davidson

Situated in a gorgeous area of antique shops and boutiques in St Germain de Pres, this hotel really is great. Set in a quiet side Street or Rue Jacob, it offers fabulous rooms. We had a King Size bed (two joined together), but the room was beautifully furnished. Modern... more

Hype not Hip
We stayed at La Villa for 2 nights during May 2005. We do not consider the hotel to be of a 4 star category. There are 3 star hotels in Paris that certainly offer more authentic and quality accomodation. Main points: 1. The room was not properly cleaned on arrival and after informing reception staff, nothing was done until the second day. 2. Staff are nonchalant and unfriendly. 3. Television was not watchable due to a very bad signal, and sky movies inexistant despite what is written in the hotel book Moreover the rooms are small and unpractical. Therefore, one should think twice before spending top dollar for mediocre service.
Honeymoon in Paris
We stayed here for our honeymoon in September 2004. The hotel was wonderful! We were upgraded to a corner suite that looked out onto a quaint street corner and had windows that opened so we could take it all in. Our room was spacious and had a sitting room in addition to the bedroom, even an extra small powder room in addition to the regular bathroom. The feel is very chic and minimalist, so if you're looking for that country French feel this is not your place. The bathroom had a wonderful deep tub and granite countertops. Fluffy robes added to the cozy feel. We found the staff to be very helpful with bookings and used them to book restaurant reservations, a cruise on the Seine, etc. The hotel is in St. Germain and is in walking distance to seemingly everything. I can't say enough about this place, it was the highlight of our honeymoon.
Very Hip
Although the room in which we stayed was on the small side, the "hip factor" certainly made up for it. The room was very clean, well designed, beautifully lit, and well appointed if you like minimalism, which we do. The bathroom, done in beautiful brown marble was stunning. The location couldn't have been more ideal--in the midst of greast shopping and wonderful restaurants with easy access to the metro and taxi stand. It was also very quiet in the room. The staff was very pleasant and accomodating. We would definitely stay here again.
Great location - average hotel
We stayed in a superior room with two beds In September. The room was average size with a dormer window, small tv and desk, nice linens and minibar. The bathroom was small with a hairdryer that was more like the hose of a vacuum cleaner. The room was kept very clean. We did not rate the staff as overly friendly, but they were not unfriendly either. I was disappointed in the reception area which seemed dismal and unwelcoming to me. The hotel did not seem busy or crowded as the previous poster stated. The location is terrific and about as centrally located to any place that you would want to visit. I don't think I would stay there again; the hotel was only average and for the price, you could do better
Really Disappointed
I did a TON of research on where to stay in Paris. We wanted St. Germain, not a big place, and we didn't want to deal with a lot of maintenance issues of an older place. I had read a great review recently on this hotel in Conde Nast Traveller. I had also read a great review in a few books. So although I hadn't heard much on tripadvisor, all the different reviews came from very credible sources, so we booked it. The hotel was very modern with everything working well. Rooms were nice and quite. Good location right near everything in St. Germain, and just a long block from the Siene, yet on a quaint, quiet street. Sounds good, right? Well unfortunately the staff was so bad that they ruined our stay and we'd never go back. They were VERY unfriendly and VERY unhelpful. Even after 4 days no one acted like they'd seen us before. People wouldn't even smile at you when you'd walk in. Asking for anything other than checking you in was a hassle. One woman acted like she couldn't understand us just so she wouldn't have to do something we had asked. The hotel had such a cold and unhappy feeling. 2 other negatives - 1.The place was very busy, AND you could feel how busy it was. 2. Tons of other Americans. I guess that's OK, but you leave America to experience something diffferent. So if you want a good location and good modern rooms it's fine. But with so many hotels in that area you can do better. Plus a staff that actually is nice to you and acts like they want you there makes such a difference. I just can't say enough about that terrible staff at the front desk! Bottom line - we wouldn't stay there again and would NOT recommend it. 2 other pieces of advice: 1. always bargain. they initially gave us the rack rate of 240Euros a night. but when I sent an email saying i'd seen a lower rate on some other site (which i had) they gave me the rate of 195Euros almost right away. 2. know the french language basics. yes, no, thank you, please, mr. mrs. very good, good day, good night. Will go a LONG WAY! Every, single place - everywhere - people were especially nice when they heard us trying to speak some french.
Excellent Hotel
The Le Villa hotel made our holiday, i have to say it was the best hotel we have ever been to. The staff were really helpfull and friendly. the rooms were decorated lovely, (ideas for our house). It is situated in a lovely area of paris, ideal to visit all of what paris has to offer. Resturants just around the corner, with shops everything you could want for an interesting holiday paris has it. You have to walk around paris to the most out of your holiday there.
Loved La Villa
After doing quite a bit of research, I booked a room at La Villa. It was exactly what we were looking for in our trip to Paris. If you're looking for a "boutique" hotel in a great neighborhood with a lot of style, La Villa should be your choice. The rooms are small, but very nicely decorated and has a very intimate feel to them. You can walk EVERYWHERE! The museums, shopping, resturants, etc. Best of all, and oddly enough, the hotel smells fantastic. Although the hotel couldn't confirm an early arrival in booking, when we arrived at 7:00 am, our room was ready. La Villa is a great deal for the price and I would book with them again.
Decent hotel - great location
Most of the rooms are very small - but overall the place is decent. For the price (relative to others in Paris) - its a good place to stay. Best part is the location - St Germain. Great shops, bars, cafes - etc.
Loved La Villa
We had a wonderful stay at La Villa last November!! I had emailed for a number of restaurant reservation before we arrived, and all had been carefully juggled and arranged. We had a free upgrade to a superior room, which was spacious and luxurious--with a stylish bathroom. Everyone, from people at the desk to the chamber maids, were friendly, professional and went out of their way to be helpful. We loved the hotel and look foward to returning.
Street noise and unhelpful staff
This is a very chic hotel and worth the trip if you don't mind loud rooms and unhelpful staff. Unfortunately my visit to the La Villa was full of both of these problems. When a loud party in the ground floor bar went on into 4 in the morning, I requested a room change, as I could not sleep (room on the first floor could hear every word through paper thin walls + floor) I was told I would be charged for the the additional room as it was before 7 am, the time they stop taking check-ins for the night, as I would be depriving a potential guest (at 4 am???) of a room. Bleary eyed and counting the minutes until waking for my morning meetings, I took the new room, a suite on the top floor, whose beautiful corner view overlooked the intersection of rue Bonaparte and rue Jacob and therefore doubled the street noise. Despite polite discussions with management, they did in fact charge me for two rooms that night. No apologies for their bizarre policy, but I won't be going back and I suggest you don't either. Plenty of other cute hotels in St Germain de Pres with helpful staff and quieter arrangement of rooms.
