We arrived at the hotel in the early hours of the morning and the receptionist was very polite but did not speak very good english, but he was very helpfull. The room was clean and the toilet and shower were spotless. Breakfast is a typical turkish breakfast although cerials are available. The other meals here vary from day to day and were really very nice. The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and very helpfull. Both swimming pools are clean and the water is clear not cloudy. There is a little shop next to the hotel which sells just avbout anything you would need. It is a bit of a trek to Gumbet centre as you are going uphill but it is downhill on the way back (much better when you have shopping), although you can get to the centre by walking along the beach. I would recommend this Hotel to all ages. The Best place to eat out is The Sunflower which is about 100 meters from the Magnific Hotel, The food is excellent and the staff are the very best in Gumbet nothing is too much trouble, the Chef can cook anything incuding an English Sunday dinner and his steaks are to die for.
Definately No Turkish Delight

We have just returned from an all-inclusive week at this so called 4* hotel. Can I just say we have been to Turkey on eight previous occasions and never have we had an experience like this one. The food was un-appetising and repetitive, served up to you on chipped plates,(there was always a shortage of plates cups etc),no toast machine, hard boiled eggs and franfurters every morning for breakfast, frozen veg and a small amount of meat disguised in creamy or tomatoe sauce every day for lunch and dinner, yes they did have a barbecue every evening but the only thing cooked on this was chicken wings one night drumsticks the next etc, but even they were tough as old boots. What you didn't eat one day was served up to you the next day for lunch or dinner disguised as something else! the drinks were palatable but not much variety and once again you had to be careful you didnt get a cracked glass. The staff were pleasant some of the time but didnt have a clue how to work in a dinning area, they were always scruffy, lifting food with bare hands, eating food off guest plates, removing plates before you had a chance to finish, if you asked for cups or plates you were informed you had to wait 5 mins. There was no entertainment , a shortage of chairs around the only bar (we think this was to discourage you from using the bar). There was no pool snack bar, icecream, or provision for children at all. The pools were in need of repair(loose or missing tiles). We didnt see any evidence of the pool being cleaned the whole week we were there! You could hire matresses for the loungers but these were filthy. The pool bar was swilled down now and again and the water was swept into the pool area. The rooms were a reasonable size but the daily cleaning of them left a lot to be desired,(they didnt wipe down surfaces, or sweep the floors very well, stains that were made on the first day were still there on the last). Please be aware this isnt a 4* hotel we wouldnt give it 1*. Dont let this put you off Turkey, it is a wonderful country and this is by far our one and only negative experience in the many years we have been visiting.
Not so Turkish Delight!

Booked this through Teletext and Goldtrail Holidays. On arrival at4am no drinks were available not even water all we were offered was squash. Room looked ok but although maid came everyday floor was filthy and shower leaked. View was of brick wall but that turned out to be a blessing due to the noise around the pool in the night. Food is much as described by others, how many different ways are there to arrange ham and cheese! Dont go to Turkey all inclusive food turned out to be cheap and we ate out the last few nights as we had had enough. Beach was also disappointing but the sea was warmer than the pool, which by the way was freezing and deep, no shallow end. Waiters were mostly friendly and tried to help but got annoying after a few days, they seem to think we like our ears flicked! OVer all the weather made up for everything, the trips are great but dont book through your rep as its cheaper elsewhere. I recommend the boat trip around the bays and Turgetries market was lovely. All in all we had a good time, weather was fantastic and we made some nice aquaitances there which made the difference.
dissapointed

We booked this holiday a few weeks before departing we paid £800 for two people sharing a twin room. We only wanted a 4 or 5 star hotel due to so many disaster stories. We researched well and felt we couldn't go wrong with our choice! On arriving we realised immediately this WAS NOT a four star hotel. We didn’t receive a pool view although booked and where told that we couldn't have one. Room was not clean and although a maid came daily nothing was ever cleaned we had the same bath towels for the whole week our shower leaked causing the bathroom to flood nightly. Then to the restaurant basically the same food appeared on a nightly basis including leftovers from lunch or the previous day. We survived on salad and rice for a week with the occasional pasta dish covered in ketchup. Service was from 19:30 till 21:30 but there would be no food left by 20:30 unless you were in the dining room for 19:30 then you would struggle to find a table let alone eat. Waiting staff were very rude and WOULD NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER when wanting to take my 15 year old daughter out. Drinks at both bars were watered down glasses were dirty and tea towels used to clean the glasses looked more like dirty floor cloths. The noise level at night was totally unacceptable adults shouting at 3:30 – 4:30 am making it very difficult to sleep. The pool area was not particularly clean there was a big shortage of sun loungers some people would put towels on 4 sun loungers and go to the beach for the day. if you asked reception about this they would just shrug there shoulders at you. Although the pool was refreshing due to the heat of the sun the sides felt quite slimy and was lacking in floor tiles! The general consensus of opinion was this hotel is no way 4 star or even a 3. A disappointing holiday thank god for the sun!
Not what I was expecting :(

We booked our stay at the Royal Palm Area through onthebeach.com over 20 weeks ago and to say the least we were very excited at the prospect of staying there, after reading the reviews on this site. We were travelling as a group of 4 (two couples) We arrived at 23:00 on Monday 9th July 07, and after checking in we were shown to our rooms. We were a little shocked that this was all we got from the staff, and we were not given any welcome pack, information on when meals were served during the day or information regarding a safe. After a number of trips back and forth to reception we had finally settled in at the hotel, and so decided that we would go for a night cap in the hotel bar. Brief rundown of the “All inclusive” drinks that were available to us: Beer Gin (but no tonic, this became available on the last day we were, as it was then classed as school term, so they had a wider variety of drinks available for their new guests!) Vodka Raki Coke D.Coke Lemonade Fanta Water Orange Squash Tea Coffee All other drinks were at an extra charge, including orange! We were a little annoyed to say that least, that on the last day of our holiday 3 extra alcoholic drinks were made available for the arrival of the “school term” guests. The rooms were of a standard size, and were cleaned everyday, and the bathroom was kept very clean as well, with fresh towels everyday. This was the extent of the hygiene though, on the second day each member of our group had noticed a number of things that we started to worry about. The staff seemed incapable of using any form of washing up liquid or hot water to clean the cups, and the most they stretched to was rinsing the cups under a cold water tap and then using their bare hand to wipe round the inside (occasionally a visibly dirty dish cloth touched the inside, if you were lucky). Although the bucket containing ice, had a pair of tongs, the bar men used his hands to put ice in our drinks (we quickly stopped asking for ice). One day we noticed that something had been spilt on the bar, and there was a small ant colony forming there. We pointed this out to the barmen, who proceeded to pick up the dish cloth (mentioned previously) and squash the ants with it; within the next second he then inserted the dish cloth into a glass and carried on cleaning with it (disgusting!). Now I have been to turkey (including Gumbet) a number of times, and I have never experienced anything like that before. At night many people had to resort to sitting on sunbeds as there were no where near enough tables in the bar. Unfortunately we ended up spending exactly more eating and drinking out then we had paid for the holiday online. If we did not have this money available, we would have had a terrible holiday. The food was fine for about the first 4 days, but started to become extremely monotonous after that. They did not have any facility to make toast, and the extent of breakfast was frankfurters sausages and hard boiled eggs, or cold meats. If you don’t like stew don’t come here either! But here comes our most shocking moment of our holiday… whilst myself and my boyfriend were sitting around the pool, one of the barmen came up to our table and proceeded to help himself to my boyfriends cigarettes (by the time my boyfriend has noticed, the cigarette had already been lit) I do not smoke myself but I found this extremely rude especially as this was the same barmen who questioned why you would want more than two drinks ( we were expected to get drink individually, so you could not order our friends drinks at the same time). Overall, Gumbet is great, there was a great bar on the beach called the Sun Club, where they will not hassle you to go in, and they even sorted us out a birthday cake for my boyfriend birthday. As for the hotel, would I stay there again…. Never! Im not one to often moan about hotels, but this hotel was severely mis-represented. My aim for this review is to show the facts, and hope this helps anyone deciding where they should stay in Gumbet. Ps: We looked at the Royal Asarlik when we were out there, and it looked amazing!!!!!!
Great stayng in Royal Palm

We've stayed there for a week at the beginning of July.I was really impressed mostly about the staff. Great people, always willing to help and most of all very funny.Making jokes all the time, played with the guest's children and always there to help you out. The food is very variate and tasty, lots of types of main course, salads, deserts, fruit, and a very nice vine. It was clean and its 1 minute to the beach. The beach is lovely, clean, nice sand, clean water. The city center is 10 minutes away, lots of terraces, restaurants, shops so it also has a good positioning. Not to mention that is just 15 minutes away from Bodrum, which really worths visiting. If you want to go to Turkey,Bodrum this hotel is a really good choice. Enjoy! Luminita, Brasov, Romania
Fantastic!

My friend and i stayed here at the end of May and cannot say enough good things about the place! Having stayed in Turkey before we weren't expecting the hotel to be quite up to 4* standard but it definatley was, the rooms were spotless and spacious, cleaned daily and the rest of the hotel was immaculate. The food was lovely, plenty of choice, always hot and freshly prepared. The drinks at the bar were not watered down and the barmen weren't funny about serving you more than 1 at a time! The pool area was lovely and clean, and at the time of year we stayed there were plenty of sunbeds everyday, without having to get up at 8am! The hotel is situated in a quieter part of Gumbet but within easy walking distance of the main nightlife and shops. The hotel staff were fantastic, they couldn't do enough to help and were always laughing and joking with the guests, they really did make our holiday such fun! We have only been back a week and have already booked to go back later in the summer, which i think sums up how truely wonderful we found this hotel!!
Excellent 4* All Inclusive in Gumbet
from stepper28
I have stayed in many hotels in Turkey and a few all inclusive around the world, so I was expecting the food to be less than average and the hotel to be clean but basic. I can assure you that I was pleasantly surprised! The staff are all very friendly (from the reception staff to the cleaning staff) and the rooms are comfy, clean, well kept, and spacious. The rooms do have satellite TV with a couple of English speaking channels (which is free) and air conditioning (which you pay for on a daily basis if required for a nominal fee). The restaurant serves a fairly good breakfast - which includes cereals, breads, jams, eggs, omlettes, juices, salads, cooked meats, cheeses, teas and coffee and a plentiful lunch and dinner menu - which includes pasta, chicken, beef, lamb, salads and an amazing array of cakes and desserts. Every Thursday night is Turkish night with excellent Turkish foods and entertainment which is included in the All Inclusive package so don't miss it. The hotel has two fairly large pools and plenty of parasols & sun-loungers. The mattresses for the loungers cost 2 Euros a day if you require a little bit more comfort and you hire them from reception. Dolmus (the local minibuses) cost 1.7YTL (about 60pence each way) into Bodrum and Gumbet if you want to do some shopping (be ready to barter!) or eat out. You can also walk along the beach into Gumbet which will take you all of about 15minutes slow walk. Overall I would say that the Royal Palm Area is an excellent hotel in a quieter part of Gumbet and deserves its 4* rating.
fantastic

We booked a last minute holiday from teletext tv,we were three females traveling together so i explained that we needed to be in the town.We were offered a 4* all inclusive hotel right on the beach but away from the banging night life yet only a 5min walk into town.We arrived at 4am and our case were carried up to our rooms (no lifts) we were pleasantly suprised at the size of our rooms and the views from our balconies were breathtaking. The hotel is small(86 rooms) and spotless, the food was amazing with plenty of dishes to choose from, most nights the meats were bar-b-qued outside. To the side of our hotel was 2 large water slides and tennis courts and plenty of water sports. We have been to Gumbet before,we were in a 3* hotel which,to us,seemed only like a 2* so on booking this we expected this 4* to be only a 3*,we were wrong,it was very much a 4* and we would like very much to go back next year, one of the best hotels we have been in,fantastic.
Just got home from this hotel (29/09/2011), and I got to say I was apprehensive when i read the reviews, but it was alot better than I thought it was going to be!!!!! We arrived at 9.30pm, and thought we were at the wrong hotel, as the name outside the hotel is The Royal... more
