Submitted By: Mr G ClaesFood was good. Every day the evening dinner was good. Mostly fresh stuf!! Also every evening other food ... one time a week a turkish night with turkish food and ambiance was arround the restaurant.
Arround the swimmingpool the music was a bit disturbing ... to loud, and very often the same songs ... but okay ... the rest was very well!!

Friendly Staff
Pool is quite deep therefore not too child friendly.
Local store just outside the hotel which was very handy for things like water etc.
Food was very good and lots of it.
Enertainment very limited one Turkish Night but that was very good.
Plenty of space around the pool no shortage of sun beds.
Tip boxes every where but just ignore them every one seems to.
Very easy to get to Gumbet town and Bodrum on the local bus.
Nothing really for kids to do no childrens entertainment therefore would think twice if you have kids.
Beach is very close but it is not sandy but nice to sit on a lounger and relax.
Hotel is popular with Turkish famillies and a mix of other Europeans.
T>V in the room is very poor with hardly an english channels and picture quality is poor, sometimes its nice to chill out and watch a bit of T.V!
Air Con in the room is adequate... a bit noisey but works there was no additional charge for this.
Overall good value for money but not really a hotel designed for famillies with young kids.

Submitted By: Mrs K GardinerThe area was very hilly, not very suitable for elderly or infirm,as the walking conditions are bad as the pavements are very narrow and uneven.
Hotel situated off the beaten track main road but the plus was it was beside the beach.
On approach to hotel and having read previous reviews I wasn't looking forward to it, but on arrival we were greeted very well.
Given room without a balcony i was not pleased, i inquired about changing room right away they said to come back tomorrow at 12 when we did it was changed to a lovely balcony room over looking the sea and pool.
The meals were of a high standard. Plenty of choice and our kids are murder to feed but there was always something for them. Plenty choice of fruit and staff were very welcoming. The only thing I would say about the dining room was that the staff at times had to be reminded not to take your plate away too quickly.
The hotel lacks entertainment but then so does the whole of Turkey no matter what bit you go to.
I suggested a few things when i was staying at the hotel to the manager. For instance putting out name tags to inform the guests what they were eating at the hot plate as i was bored asking what kind of meat it was. They took this on board and within 2 days it was working well. The scotch accent at times can be hard for the Turkish people to understand.
The hotel was clean, sheets changed daily and beds done fancy every day. The people very nice and approachable and would recommend this Hotel if you were thinking of visiting the area of Gumbet. Well done Hotel Royal Palm Area, especially to the bar and restaurant Manager who mad everyone every age feel welcome, also the two boy pool attendents who keep the pool area well kept along with the toilet area's and everything else they do in their 18 hour day. This years reviews seem better than lasts maybe the change of staff to the hotel done it good.

Submitted By: JoodlesThe rooms were clean and bright. We had an end room, our friends got a front pool view and the balcony was quite small but looking up all day from the pool, no one used them anyway. The pool is lit at night and looks very pretty. In the day the flower beds looked a little dry and worn but they had a heat wave of 100 degrees so that was to be expected.
There was only one nights entertainment, which is quite good but don't bother with a raffle ticket. There is a guy selling trips to a turkish bath at £4 per head, this included return transport for 5 of us. Value for money and recomended on the first day. We went twice. His name was Kanan and he was fluent English.
I would give the food 7 out of 10. There is such a huge choice of salad, pasta's and some nights local turkish woman come and cook local bread to order with BBQ kebabs cooked fresh. Breakfast has lovely breads and cheeses, the chef cooks omlettes to order.
There is only one bar really, the pool bar but its open till midnight. Don't loose your glass though, they get confused if you ask for another drink like a raki chaser if you already have a beer in front of you. You will be asked to finish that first before they will serve you..............its a hard life! The lager is cool and refreshing but gets warm quickly in the plastic glasses by the pool. The staff do get confused between Vodka, Snaps (local) and bacardi. Its a bit of a gamble but they do test the Raki themselves to make sure!
The beach is very close and its a 10 minute stroll into the night life area. Gumbet Bay is stunning at night and the town is full of life and good shopping.
Overall, we were happy with the hotel, however we have booked Gumbet again this year but a hotel nearer town. Saying that, if we somehow ended up back at Palm Area, I would be quite happy. You get what you pay for and it was value for money

Submitted By: Mr C WilsonReading previous comments about the food well i am sorry to say its all true but there are to local beach front bars that sell excellent food, if you like beef, pork,or fish do not goto this resort as on the menu for the whole seven day when i attended this resort was chicken and soup, the breakfast was very continental with the German and Dutch guests in their elements.
Gumbet was a very nice place and it is a pleasant walk to the small town and the buses are very regular into Bodrum which i found to be a little bit manic.
Drinks were watered down and very little choice which was very dissapointing its the first AI holiday i have not been able to get drunk!!!

The hotel's idea of all inclusive was three meals a day and drinks all day. No snack,s no ice cream, pastries etc which you can usually get with all inclusive. However, that wasn't too bad and the buffet food was OK...Until the 5th day when we came down for breakfast and found no food and the manager said 'thats it..end of season! We then had 'waiter' service, soup, salad, hot meal, sweet and fruit. No too bad in itself but no choice. The Hotel then went into close down mode. The pool wasn't cleaned, the sun beds were put away, the staff wore casual clothes and they started to pack up. We had no warning, no details and no choice in the matter.
Bodrum airport was chaotic. All flights go out on the same day and you can't move. Food and drinks are expensive. On landing at east Midlands we then found our cases had been badly damaged and had to wait whilst they tried to find an Onur airline agent but eventually found that he had 'closed for the season' as well. We eventually got our forms filled in by another agent.
What could have been a good holiday was spoilt by the last 2/3 days. Med hotels who run the Royal Palm have no idea of customer service and should not be taking holiday bookings if they intend to close the hotel down half way through anyone's stay.
