Campanile Bastille Hotel

We researched lots of budget Paris hotels before choosing this hotel (most budget hotels had second-rate/dirty rooms, and substandard breakfasts). This certainly isn’t the case with the Campanile Bastille – we would quickly recommend this hotel to anyone, and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. A mate and I stayed one night in June 2007 during French Tennis Open week. We were both completely happy with the standard and cleanliness of the hotel, and it is well located for the metro (Chemin Vert is literally just around the corner). We travelled on the metro across to Roland Garros in about 20 mins (for £1!!), and it would be no hassle to get to West Paris where all the landmarks seem to be. This was the perfect hotel. Me and a friend booked last minute. And we were worried that it would be a distance away from everything...boy were we wrong. The bastille was buzzing with people bars and clubs. The hotel was 1 minute away so there was no noise from the people. It was next to the metro although we were so close to everything we never had to use it. All the reviews I've read about this hotel are pretty spot on, but when people complain about the size of the room, well who really cares? Have you come to Paris to sit in the room all weekend? No you haven't! You're going to get out and about and experience the area. Bastille is absolutely perfect for restaurants and late night bars. I've always made the mistake of heading for the Champs Elysees for a drink, but now I know better. We just had 2 nights at the Campanile Bastille. I must say we were a little disappointed, it is our 3rd trip to france and the previous hotels we stayed at were better. The location is quite good, close to 2 Metro lines, but basically its a very tired hotel in need of refurbishment. The bathrooms were clean, but poorly lit, good shower though. Stayed in campaniles before. This was exactly as expected. Clean room although not large. Comfortable bed and polite staff. Good value breakfast. Liked the location, quiet road just off Bastille. Close to metro. Two ladies felt quite comfortable walking in area in evening to find somewhere to eat. Plenty of choice nearby. Would stay again and recommend to anyone who wants good value no frills accommodation.

We were here as part of a group with Culture Quest. The rooms were small - in a standard twin/twin you could reach out and easily touch the person in the bed next to you! Don't bring a big suitcase because there's no room for them. That being said, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were kept clean. The bathrooms were sizable and towels changed daily. Booked five rooms here for the period 28 Dec to 2nd Jan while attending a family wedding, having made a previous 'reckie' trip to Paris in August to look at hotels around this price in the Marais. We wanted budget accom, something the younger members of the family could afford. We stayed four good overnights in this modern, clean and well situated hotel. Reception answered brief and correct, no humbug, no unnessary questions etc. Had a room on the sixth floor, room size about 3 x 3 meters, with very good beds, bathroom 2 x 2 meters nice and shiny with good functioning shower, while standing in a bath tub. Excellent location, just 15 minutes from le Marais and Bastille. Rooms very small but in good condition and the bathroom had a bathtub. Reception staff wasn't as friendly as should be but it wasn't a problem. Tea making facilities in the room. We never found the rate of 70 Eur pn again (2002) though.
