Al Hamra Fort Hotel

I spent a week here in May 2006 with my wife and friends (In fact I am still here and emailing in the cool of the biz centre). we have travelled to Dubai many times for business and pleasure and wanted to get away from the cranes and constant traffic for a change?! Al Hamra is about a 90 minute drive North of Dubia and a taxi for the day into Dubai only costs around $80 so a day in the Malls of Dubia is easily achievable. We had a week's break here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have one baby and two older children and it catered for all of them. The staff were very friendly and welcomed the children in the restaurants. The food was excellent and very good value for money. We stayed in a deluxe room on the 2nd floor with a beautiful sea view. Just returned from our second visit in two years. Despite the extensive building work on the perimeter of the resort, it's still an outstanding location. The beaches, restaurants, pools and rooms are excellent and the staff are ultra-friendly and courteous. The Al Jazeera Arabic restaurant is great fun and excellent food. Go for a chalet room (with beach view) rather than the main hotel - although the main hotel rooms are very good too. Gripes? We stayed at the Al Hamra Fort Hotel for 7 nights for our honeymoon. We had a deluxe balcony room on the first floor of the main hotel - a good sized room and balcony. The pool and beach facilities were excellent. The food available was varied, of good quality and reasonably priced. There is much construction, at the rear of the main hotel and around the lagoon area, but this was not noticeable at all from the main hotel. The service was excellent - from reception staff, restaurant staff and room service. Would definitely return.

We are a family of four, two adults and two kids of 6 and 4 and just returned from a week in Al Hamra. We were located in the village which is indeed 500m away from the main hotel. We didn't see that as a problem since there are golf carts continuously running inbetween and the rooms are excellent there. We had a junior suite which is more than ok to house 4 people. we stayed here for two weeks at the end of October and expected to be housed in the main hotel-in fact we did not know the village existed till we arrived at 3am.Our toilet failed to function the drawers had no handles and the wardrobe was equipped with 2 hangers.We complained immediately and were promised a move to the main hotel but it took all day with a lot of tenacity on our part.Even then we were still threatened with extra charges.We would not go back-the attitude was arrogant and it is too far from Dubai in a town with no... more

Rooms Nos. 888 up in the "Village" area are about 1.5km far away of the main hotel building and its beach, time consuming shuttle service. Beware of all "Standard Rooms", those are two stars only!

Like most people I do tend to take notice of the bad points people note in their reviews but I must state those noted about this hotel were not apparent during our stay. Ok the hotel is under construction as you enter off the main road of Ras Al Khaimah which will not be completed until 2008 due to the complexity of building a golf course around a lagoon. My wife and i stayed at the The Al Hamra Fort Townhouses on a H/B basis for only three days. Our room which was upgraded to a Junior Suite was excellent, roomy and spacious. The Village Restaurant located about 50m away from our room and close to the pool provided an excellent array of food which was served by the witresses with no fuss whatsoever. My partner & I spent 9 days @ the Al Hamra Fort, all be there was some building work around us this did not affect us at all. The staff were very friendly & helpful, the room & restaurants were immaculate. We would certainly return to this resort.
