We tried other hotels but decided on this after some wonderful advice from Oman Holiday. This hotel was just right for us - the children loved it and though it looks so posh its really friendly. The only down side was the few restaurants - though we were told about that when we researched the place.
Oman Holiday gave us a great 3 day tour into the areas away from Muscat. The country is big and we wanted to get a guided tour to save wasting time. The best part was the people we met followed by the amazing scenery.
The flight with Gulf Air was a bit long at over 7 hours but its the only was. The flight was fine and the food ok.
Overall a good choice for families but not so good but teens and 20s.

We went to the Al Bustan in September during Ramadan.
This hotel is truly spectacular! The hotel lobby is unlike anything I have seen, huge, majestic and breath-taking. The staff are discreet and very genuinely helpful. The rooms are very large with sea or mountain view - both spectacular!
There are large swimming pools with unique (for Oman) land scaped gardens. You get a handy free cooler box with your towel. The Italian buffet was some of the best Italian food I have ever tasted.
The massages are great and there is a free bus into the City of Muscat, which is minutes away! Well worth a visit, but closing for refurbishment soon.
