I'd replace the whole catering operation as a start
Love the Marriott Denia so was really looking forward to our stay. Never been so disappointed by a hotel. On the plus side the hotel public areas and rooms are as you would expect and the beach is stunning. There were several negatives - the most obvious around catering. Breakfast is served until 10.30 - however by 10am each morning they had removed the muesli bowls, for 2 days of the 7 the only fresh fruit was apples or melons (hardly 5 star standard), there was no fresh brown bread some days. It was rare for staff to clear the table... more
Wonderful Resort
The hotel is beautiful. A bit of a drive to get out to the resort, but well worth it. The staff, the rooms, the view are all wonderful. We were there on our honeymoon and loved it. It is a huge family oriented resort, but it didn't make a difference to us. Definitely rent a car, its needed. You can park for free and drive 10-15 minutes to Peniche for a great dinner. The staff/concierge was extremely helpful to good recommending good places to eat. The restaurants onsite are very good, but pricey. The golf and spa were great.... more
Relaxed family holiday
Positives - The usual big rooms with 2 kingsize beds in a twin that seems standard for new built Marriott's in Europe. The buffet breakfast and dinners were excellent and the staff very efficient considering the hotel was fully booked and there were loads of kids about. We took our 3 kids aged 2,5 and 7, the outdoor pool and beach kept them amused for our entire 9 day stay. The beach is unspoilt and undeveloped, the atlantic rollers make swimming nearly impossible and you have to watch the kids when paddling in the surf but it is a beautiful... more
golfers paradise
this large 'golf based' resort on the west coast of Portugal, 45 minutes north of Lisbon is a peaceful respite from the crowded mediterranean hotspots but is lacking a few facilities that could lift it into the 'excellent' bracket. The complex is very large so you could cover some distances to reach the beach/shop/bar. We stayed in August and a lot of the villas appeared unoccupied so it was never crowded/ noisy. Accomodation ( 2 bed deluxe townhouse / approx £100 per night) was excellent- very spacious, quality furnishings,... more
Good hotel but uninspiring surroundings
Stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights in a side ocean-facing room. The room was excellent although it was strange that the balcony, like all the other balconies, had a table but only one chair - it meant that we had to lift the desk chair outside everytime the two of us wanted to sit on the balcony. We did not eat dinner there but had the buffet breafast which was average. On the first morning we were sat at a table in the middle of the smoking area, without being asked our preference, and when we realised had to ask to be... more
a little bit bland
We stayed in a deluxe townhouse within the resort. The house was immaculate and kitted out to the last detail with a nice swimming pool nearby. However, unless you are part of golfing party (If you want to play golf be sure to bring your golf handicap details etc or you won't be let play) I would consider the resort a bit bland. The resort is a very modern purpose built village around a golf course. Part of a forest has been cut down to make way for it, and the rows of cabbages planted by the local farmers leading up to the... more
Where the 'Old' world meets the 'New' world !
We stopped here for only 2 nights during a drive through Portugal. It's a long way from the motorway and even the nearest town / village is 5 km's. But once we had arrived the journey was forgotten. Check in was up to the usual friendly, efficient Marriott standard. The concierge got our stuff to the room before us and valet parked the car. We had lots to do. But the softest beds, Egyptian cotton and juice filled local cherries conspired to keep us in our side sea view room. Once we had overcome the enchantment we were off... more
An Oasis of Pure Relaxation
Just returned from a wk stay at this marvellous hotel. The hotel is charming, lots of lovely portugese tiles and a traditional looking building - from a distance - close up it is a thing of beauty. The rotunda in the lobby and views from the lobby bar are superb and at night time it looks magnificent. Has beautifully matched traditional and contemporary design whilst considering its setting. Our room had a lovely sea view, was spacious and nicely decorated. The main dining room was excellent - extremely efficient, fantastic food,... more
2nd Time
My second time at this expanding resort on the Silver Coast.Has changed a lot since my first visit 2 years ago,all for the better.Excellent rooms and great Location.Superb golf course. PDR is going someway to being the new La Manga of Portugal. The breakfast is as good as I have had in any Hotel I have stayed in. The beach is vast and deserted and you can go hours with out seeing anyone else. So why only 4 stars?.The prices at the restaurants and Bar are crazy.Fillet Steak 80 Euros,Beef Cutlets 42.00 Euros, and around the pool, the... more
Amazing Ocen View
We stayed here 4 nights (April 13-17). The room was great, the view amazing. Hotel is beautiful and well kept, gardens are a treat. Golf course fantastic. Staff was friendly at all times. Food was very good, though service at the pool restaurant/bar was very slow. Room service was excellent. Bathroom was stocked every day with L'Occitane products. We had a porcelain bunny with chocolates and almonds on Easter, very nice touch. Turn down sevice every night was also nice after our days of sightseeing or golfing. Concierge was incredibly... more
