Breakfast time a delight - Dinner time shambolic!!
from Highland-Lass28
We stayed at the Buckatree last October for a 3 night stay which we thought was great. Nice room (Room 64) good food, peaceful and helpful staff, especially Nigel. We decided to go back this year for a 5 night stay. Breakfast time was great, no problems but when evening time came there seems to be very little staff, nobody on the bar so you had to go to Reception to ask if you could have a drink. The Dinner menu didn't really change all week and most main meals came with a cream sauce of some kind (same veg every night) Admittedly the food is of a good quality but lacked imagination. The last night was a complete disaster. We booked our table and waited 50 minutes for our starter to arrive which was tasteless. When we mentioned that the food was taking a long time to arrive we were told that they only had one chef on and that they had a large order for bar meals in the bar. That sent the red flag flying. I think there are too many managers in this hotel and not enought staff on the ground which is a shame because it is a lovely hotel in a great location. We would go back and stay in the Buckatree but on a bed and breakfast basis.
A return visitor

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel, both occasions on business, I have to say I will return again. Excellent value for money, room spotless, a very talented chef and a good freshly prepared breakfast. Keep it up please.
You couldn't pay me to go back again

I decided to book a three-night stay at the Buckatree for me, my wife and our two young children during a recent visit to Telford to visit family. My wife and I were aware of the mixed reviews but, having lived in Telford for 20 years, I knew that the hotel is in a fantastic location and understood that it had had a recent minor refurbishment. We were given room 202, which is in the old part of the hotel (as opposed to what I guess are the newer rooms in the annexe). On the first day we informed the reception that the shower was not operating. Judging by the state of the shower it is likely that it has not worked for some time. Despite being advised that the shower had been repaired it did not work for the duration of the stay. On the final day we insisted on being given access to a room with a working shower (which the staff obliged). For the second and third day we had no cold water at the basin. The receiption told us that this was due to a local water pumping station, which seemed improbable given that there was cold running water at the bath and the toilet cistern. Our final complaint is the mouldy smell that permeated throughout the room and the corridors, together with the lift that smells of urine. Despite it all the staff are very friendly and helpful - one wonders what they could achieve given a decent hotel to work in! At the end of it all we couldn't wait to leave. We still had to pay full price even though the basic amenities in the room did not function. Most disappointed and we will be complaining to the management.
wonderfull hotel
from JIMBOLANCS1
We stayed at this hotel my partner and I, And I can!t understand why there are some bad reviews about it. We stayed in Aug 08 the room was nice clean with a balcony. The food was excellent and we sent our comments to the chef.It was the finest food we have had in an hotel, and we have stayed in many, also staff where top notch, obliging and friendly and very efficent.. We will return to this hotel again which was in a wonderfull setting and places to visit from. Thankyou to everyone at the Buckatree Hall Hotel for making our stay a pleasant one. JY.
Good and bad......
from SonjaHo
The hotel is in a lovely setting, very easy to find and has plenty of parking. My husband and I stayed there 16th and 17th August and we have mixed feelings about it. When we arrived at 1.30pm there was no one at the desk and we had to search the hotel for someone. When the young female clerk was finally found we were told that we could not check in as rooms were still being cleaned and she had not spoken to housekeeping. We asked that a room be found as we had another appointment and needed to drop our bags, freshen up and go after being on the road for 3 hours. She told me to go upstairs and find the cleaner so I could tell her which rooms were clean. I thought this odd, not least of all as I am clearly 5 months pregnant. After I protested she went off. 5 minutes later a room is found and we are checked in - great news. My opinion on the room was mixed. Nice balcony view, good size room and lovely comfy bed. The bad points outweigh the good - cigeratte burns on the bed sheets, lots of mould and grimness in the bathroom, sink in the bathroom was pretty blocked, cups and spoons for the team making facilities clearly had not been washed (gross infact). On the up-side, the breakfast was very good and the lovely chap organising the breakfast room was fantastic. The final annoyance was getting back to the room pretty late one night to find that our room had not been cleaned despite having put out the 'please clean me' sign. We called reception and had no answer, my husband stomped the hotel looking for staff only to find the 2 on duty staff in one of the conference rooms doing karaoke. He was a lovely helpful guy and did managed to locate some clean towels and toilet rolls. So, a mixed review overall. Didn't hate it but that is probably due to the fact that we paid £65 per night so felt that it was sort of comparitive value. Had I paid the advertised room rate I would have been very unhappy. Having said that, I would not stay there again and would seek out a travel lodge instead.
Someone elses toenail clippings on the carpet!
from Horace121
We stayed at this hotel for 1 night as we had been invited to an after wedding do at the hotel. We arrived late afternoon, on arrival in the room it was a bit shabby but generally ok. The tea and coffee making facilities in the room were lacking a kettle, on discovering that the phone in room wasn't working my boyfriend went down to reception, they said they'd bring one straight up. An hour later still no kettle so my boyfriend went down again. The kettle then arrived 15 minutes later. The shower was a mere dribble but I think perhaps because others were using the water as it was ok in the morning. The room hadn't been hoovered as there were crumbs and toenail clippings on the floor as well as a piece of glass that I discovered when I trod on it. The after wedding party was great. Unfortunately the breakfast was a bit disorganised, no one came to ask if we wanted tea or coffee or toast so we had to approach one of the waiters. The juice glasses were also dirty.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your comments – which the Team and I all read with real concern.
I am really sorry we failed to deliver the standards that you expect from our Hotel. We got it wrong and that is a big disappointment.
Tracy our Head Housekeeper and I have retrained the housekeeping team to the standards our guests deserve and we have put into place a new bedroom check sheet to ensure this type of issues never happen again. We got your stay with us wrong and I would like the opportunity to put that right if you contact me gm.buckatree@crerarmgmt.com I would like to discus some ideas.
Thank you again for raising this.

nice stay in beautiful countryside
from KCraigs
We stayed for one night, and we paid $80 for B&B through booking.com. We decided to splurge and spend the extra money for dinner. The room was very nice - decent sized and clean. Both dinner and breakfast were very good, and the service was excellent. The area surrounding the hotel is absolutely gorgeous. Internet service was extremely sporadic in the room, and we never did get a refund for the $20 we spent for internet. Be aware, though - they charge your card a $200 deposit, and then they run the card through again when you check out for the amount of your stay. When you use a debit card to do that, it takes several days for that original $200 to drop off, and we had to really watch our funds until the money finally came back into our account.
Only Stay Here If You Really Have No Choice
from Hotelwanderer
I stayed in this hotel and agree with other reviewers this is not a nice place. The hotel requires a major overhall - basically ripping to bits and starting again. My room was not clean, there was a no kettle in the room, the drapes needed throwing away I do not think they have ever been cleaned and the bathroom is in a league of it's own. The receiptionist is another thing on her own - I am not sure if she is just rude or incompetent. All in all I would not stay there again - like they say in life once bitten twice shy!

Dear Guest
Thank you for your feed back – which we all read with real concern.
I am really sorry we failed to deliver the standards that you expect from our Hotel. We got it wrong and that is a big disappointment.
I have spoken with Tracey our Head Housekeeper and we have revisited all our standards of room preparation with her team. We have now out into place a new room check sheet that must be completed before any room is ready for a guest arrival. We know we got it wrong when you were her and we would love the opportunity of putting that right – if you could contact me offline on gm.buckatree@crerarmgmt.com I would be happy to talk through some ideas.

Lovely place for a 3 night break
from Marged36
We took up an offer which came in the post and spent three nights dinner bed and breakfast at the Buckatree Hall Hotel from 1st to 3rd June 2008. The cost per person for the three nights was £99. We thought the hotel was lovely - not modern, but we didn't want modern. The breakfasts were excellent, and there were plenty of more exotic choices available if you wanted to pay a surcharge. Good buffet table with cereal, fruit and juices, plus the usual range for "full English Breakfast". The table d'hote dinner menu gave plenty of choice, with very good meat content - our only complaint would have been lack of imagination and poor cooking of vegetables. Our room was clean and looked-after - good towels and supplies. The staff were friendly and helpful - our room was changed on request (too many stairs in the first one). Would we go again - certainly, yes, we would.

`Very friendy
from BerkshireRoger
The hotel is set in a beautiful and quite location. We stayed for three days in June and found the staff in the hotel very friendly and helpful, they went onto the internet and printed out information about the places we asked about. The food was good although the choice at breakfast was a little limited, the evening meal was very good with plenty of choice. The building is old and in reasonable condition but needs a little more refurbishment in places. The bed wasn't the most comfortable I have ever slept on and the room service left only one towell and didn't fully restock the tea tray, having said that the staff in reception were quick to bring up another towell and add to the tea tray supplies. Overall I would stay there again and recommend the hotel to friends.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us.
I am really pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, feedback is the life blood of our industry whether positive or negative.
After reading through your comments I have spoken with Martin our Operations Manager regarding the limited choice during breakfast, which both of us were disappointed to read as the new breakfast menu has been received very well. If you could contact me off line on Gm.buckatree@crerarmgmt.com I would relish the opportunity to discuss this matter further and further improve the service we offer.
Thank you again for comments.

A tired hotel in need of some TLC. Musty smelling bedroom probably due to the lack of opening windows - merely a sliding patio door unlikely to opened on a regular basis. Service in the restaurant was extremely slow and disorganised and I cannot make my mind up whether... more
