lovely hotel first class
from elyander
Lovely hotel .. went for our anniversary end of last month.. room was gorgeous with a lovely plasma tv .. food was excellent only slight problem was the bar area was very smoky with no windows open ... other than that it was a beautiful hotel with friendly staff really enjoyed our stay and would go again ..
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, good food and service
from Mindenham
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at this beautiful hotel. We had originally planned to stay in Stratford but were so pleased that we found Ettington, approx 10 minutes drive from Stratford centre, when searching the web. The hotel is set in a beautiful country estate. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was superb. We also made full use of the lovely swimming pool, whirlpool and sauna. We shall certainly try to find an excuse to return again.
Fabulous Ettington Park!
from harveyMidlands
Right from the moment of arrival I knew that this place was special ...what a magnificent building and the most gorgeous setting. Expectation was high but I have to say that the staff exceeded my expectation, friendly nothing was too much trouble not stuffy at all which you can get in these country house hotels. The setting was superb and they have the most wonderful terrace overlooking the grounds where we had afternoon tea. Dinner in the restaurant was just wonderful one of those menu's where you have trouble deciding what to have because it all sounds so delicious. The food, wine and again the service was faultless, what a wonderful evening. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable particularly the beds. We will be returning and we have recommended Ettington to as many people as we can...what a find.
Perfect proposal for a picnic!
from custardcrumble
The hotel is set in a large area of Warwickshire countryside and is a fabulous country house with even more fantastic views. I booked fairly last minute (less than a week in advance) and received excellent help from the hotel staff in advance of our stay. I wanted to propose to my girlfriend and wanted to arrange a nice picnic in the grounds - wicker hamper, smoked salmon, nice desserts, champagne etc and nothing was too much trouble even though this wasn't a normal request for them. I was asked for my preferences and the staff worked with the chef to provide the perfect picnic for me. The staff were all very attentive on arrival and throughout (though we were seated a little late for dinner). I booked one of the suites with four-poster which was lovely. Great views, fabulous shower/bath! Being several hundred years old the bed looked its age but this just added to the charm. Dinner was a little disappointing given the price. The food was good but not exceptional (for the price). But the picnic was out of this world - highly recommended! Also breakfast was very nice - good selection and well cooked. Any minor complaints were far outweighed by the attentiveness and willingness of the staff to help and by the fact the manager was always walking round with a smile asking all the guests how they were - both very refreshing these days when even the basics tend to be a struggle for a lot of hotels. All in all we had a lovely stay and really enjoyed our time. And she said yes :o)
Good Country Hotel in Beautiful Grounds
from Kozano
We stayed in this hotel for one night over the Easter Holidays. We booked last minute and called the hotel directly and got a very good rate for a four poster bed suite, one of six suites in the hotel. The hotel is charming, very old gothic building and the reception area and the bar/lounge is very pleasant with good upkeep. The same cannot be said of the rooms, although very charming, a little tired. Though that did not lessen the enjoyment of our stay. The room was large with antique furniture with a great four poster bed and a great view over the rolling countryside. The suites I believe are in the old building so they have bags of character, there were couple of standard and executive rooms here as well. There is a modern extension, but built in the same style to the old building so it is not an eye sore, though I've not seen inside this new wing. The pool area looked much smaller than in the hotel website, it did not look much better than a leisure center, we did not feel inclined to use it. We ate at the restaurant, it was good but not too memorable. We were seated late, we had the gourmet menu with accompanying wines and the timing was right, with not much delay between courses and the wines arriving in synch. The restaurant is pricy but this is expected in most English countryside hotels. The service generally was friendly, mostly efficient but nothing too special. Breakfast was good with fresh ingredients and attentive service. The grounds are very pretty with the old abbey ruins. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.
Fantastic wedding venue
from Charlotte27
Selected this venue for our rather last minute wedding! From booking venue to our big day, we had 8 weeks. Staff at venue were fantastic- took stress out of it completely, especially Ruth the wedding co-ordinator. Every attention was paid to detail, fabulous grounds, decor & food. Shall definitely be back for our first wedding anniversary!
Beautiful Hotel let down by quality of service
from spec
This is a beautiful hotel set in lovely grounds but sadly we found that the service was average bordering poor. Agree with the comments about reception and the lack of privacy surrounding the reception desk. Breakfast was a bit of a nighmare and found ourselves having to request items repeatedly before they were delivered to our table. In contrast we were "pounced on" by the Head waiter for our breakfast orders as soon as we arrived in the dining room and then over 20 minutes later having had to chase ordered items up repeatedly, they were eventuallly brough to our table. Cant fault location, views and setting but for a hotel which claims to be the "premier" hotel in Warwickshire expected better service. The room was clean and tidy and well appointed but sadly shower appeared to have a thermostat problem as water was at best luke warm. Broken glass in wardrobe and faulty room safe also let down the expected standard of the hotel. As per other comments, agree that the walls were very thin and could hear every sound coming from the next room. Would recommend the Vintner restaurant in Stratford for an excellent good value meal in nice surroundings
Nice hotel, shame about the service
from exiges
First things first, this hotel looks absolutely lovely. Real old fashioned English country house style hotel that I can imagine foreign tourists will really appreciate. Sadly, despite it's wonderful appearances the service was severely lacking for what claims to be the best hotel in Stratford. Upon arrival, there was nowhere to park. There was a wedding in progress and all available parking had been taken, causing us to abandon our car some distance from the entrance. The small reception area was full of people and the small checkin desk with one member of staff was swamped with people trying to checkin. We were informed when we booked that we could checkin from 1pm onwards... we arrived at 1:30pm to be told that our room was not ready and we should come back in 2hrs.. Not ideal, but fair enough, and we took in some of the sights Stratford had to offer. We returned at 3:30pm to be told the room was still not ready (how long does it take to clean a room that was vacated 4.5 hours earlier ?).. We were offered an alternative room, which we inspected but it was one of their "newly furbished" rooms which was too modern and out of step with the Olde Worlde Country House style the hotel was trying to project, not only that the room overlooked the full car park and a builder skip.. which isn't the view of the lovely gardens we were promised in our original room. We declined the new room saying we would wait.. an hour later our room came available and it was clean, pleasant and just what we expected.. except the massive LCD TV in centre stage in the room, which was incongruous. After we had returned from eating in Stratford that night we wanted to find the bar in the hope of sitting around a nice log fire with a drink in hand. 2 of the log fires were unlit and the only fire going was in the busy reception with no seating.. We retired for the night to sleep, only to be kept awake by what seemed like a herd of Wilderbeest in the corridors, shouting and cheering until gone 4am.. OK, so there was a wedding and people are in high spirits, but what about consideration for other non-wedding hotel guests ? Checkout took over an hour, as one person fought manfully to process everyone checking out of guests each with their own silly requirements, such as splitting each bill down by guest and each paying by cheque. It sounds silly, but when you just want to get gone, it's frustrating. To sum up.. The hotel needs a larger checkin desk, with at least 2 staff members. The hotel needs to ask loud guests to quieten down after midnight. The hotel needs to find a more discrete way of integrating a large TV in a beautiful historic room. Avoid the modern rooms/accommodation block which are nothing to do with the original building and are completely out of step with what it stands for.
Let down in a big way
from MrNice_two
At first appearance this is a fantastic place, the old style building, the large grounds and the decor. I paid for a room listed as part of the main house for valentines day. The room we had (Number 12) was not in fact part of the main house but appeared to be part of an artificially aged extension (I might be wrong but it looked it) The room has all the facilities, nice bed, nice decor, nice big television and all the extra's in the bathroom. However it was not until we got back from our meal that we noticed what would destroy our night away. The rooms are so thin!!! We lay in bed and could clearly hear the people in the next room talking and not talking loudly either. Through no fault of the other guests next door we were awake until they stopped talking (about 4am) we were then awoken everytime they coughed, went to the toilet (yes you could hear that too) or any other noise that they made. If the rating of a hotel is based on everything that a makes a guests stay then this place in my own rating out of 5 gets a 2/3. Its a lovely looking hotel but it did not provide a good nights sleep. I stay in hotels about 150 days of the year with business and this is the worst nights sleep I have had in one in 6 years of staying away from home. A real let down. If you want the nice looking hotel its great for you but if you want to sleep your better off in a 50 quid a night lodge.
Enchanting, beautiful and highly recommended
from Smutzie
We stayed for one night for a corporate event; how I would have loved to stay longer! From a genuine, warm welcome, to excellent personal, but not intrusive, service, our whole time there was wonderful. Every thought & detail has gone into maintaining the historic ambience of this beautiful building and the hotel can provide a detailed history of its past. The food was delicious, (especially the smoked salmon & scrambled eggs for breakfast in bed!), the rooms sumptuous and cosy. The grounds themselves are beautiful, including the Norman chapel which we were able to have a look at from the inside. All in all, a lovely relaxing time was spent there, and we shall be going back soon without a doubt to enjoy even more of the amazing facilities and hospitatlity this lovely hotel has to offer.

The grounds and accommodation are beautiful, with well appointed common areas. We were greeted warmly by the staff, and shown to our rooms. Lunch trays were still in the hallway by late afternoon when we arrived. The cleaning woman was grumpy about being interrupted and she... more
