Best Western Florida Hotel

Loved this hotel. The rooms are wonderful, clean, bright and large. And amusing room names! The breakfast is lovely and the staff were very friendly and ready to help. You have a walk into Lisbon (no bars and restaurants nearby) but its a nice walk - past all the designer shops. The hotel is located right next to metro station and lovely park. Would recommend this hotel every time

Positives: A good location in central Lisbon, on the Avenida Liberdade, close to shopping, restaurants, strolling, and a taxi stand. Recently renovated, the elevators are new, the lobby is bright and clean, the bathroom fixtures in the rooms are new. Good low price. Breakfast is included. Negatives: The renovations feel like they were designed by a college student with more budget than taste. Because I booked the Best Western Hotel Florida for 4 nights through an on line agency I was unable to receive any Best Western points for the visit even though the hotel did not appear on the Best Western Web Site meaning I had to go through an agency to book it. Having had my crib, the hotel was very good, a bit of work going on as you entered the hotel, the receptionist could have been more client friendly, seems to be a trait of Portuguese people in the city, nobody smiles must be the thought of having to walk up and down all the... more

The hotel is currently being refurbished and my girlfriend and I were lucky to get a new room (The Paul Newman Room). The rooms are now themed after famous movie stars. For what we paid for, these new-style rooms are pretty hip. Lots of room, very clean and quite modern. Although there are other options that are probably more upscale in the area, the value quotient is definitely high for this hotel.

This hotel overlooks Marquis de Pambol (busy but attractive traffic thoroughfare with enormous monument in the middle) although our room was at the back of the hotel which was in a quiet street except for building works opposite. The situation is actually quite good since it is just North of the main squares. You can reach those squares in a pleasant 10 minute downhill walk along a pretty street. We were allowed to check into our room as soon as we arrived at 11am instead of waiting until 3pm which was a bonus. We had booked a triple room and was allocated a suite on the 9th floor, a twin bedded room with tv and wardrobes, drawers etc plus bathroom with bath/shower/sink/toilet & bidet. Don't recognise the previous posts. Booked 5 couples by email for four nights, didn't have to pay a deposit. Quoted room and breakfast for 120 euros per night. That's what we paid. Pleasant reception. Clean rooms, ours was spacious, with a second room - bedroom or sitting room. Two TVs (but limited channels) Lots of hanging space. Safe cost 1.5 euros per day. This hotel is a Royal Rip Off. They quoted me one rate (which they charged me the first night) then increased it by almost double the next 5 nights. I refused to sign and they said, "too bad, we have already charged your credit card company". Then they double charged me for ammenities on both Master Card and AMEX. When I complained to Best Western Customer relations in the US, they were very non-supportive and combative. Booked in advance and paid 90 euros a night discounted rate. Not worth paying more though, I'm sure you could get a better deal elsewhere. Room was reasonably sized and clean. Buffet breakfast was adequate. Location was OK, on the edge of the city centre, a 15 min walk or 5 min tube ride (station right next to hotel) to Rossio Square. The only negative was the staff who were without fail unsmiling and apathetic.

While clean, well-situated and relatively well-maintained, this hotel is likely to cause a degree of discomfort until at least the beginning of 2004 due to extensive construction work immediately adjacent to it. During our stay of four nights in September 2003, our room looked directly on to the construction site where work began at 7 a.m. and often did not conclude until after 10 p.m. at night.
