Lords of the Manor Hotel

We stayed at Lords of the Manor for a fall weekend break and enjoyed it thoroughly. We felt we had gone to the country house of well-to-do but unassuming friends. The house, grounds and gardens are picture-perfect -- even on a rainy day, you can sit in a sitting room with a view (and drink some tea or one of their interesting wines). Or put on your wellies (or a pair of theirs) and walk out into the countryside, or around the church yard, down to the stream, out on to any of the many paths that come by there. We have just enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Lords of the Manor a relief after noting some comments from previous reviewers. Although the hotel rates are not cheap you should beware the additional 10% service charge an unwelcome suprise at the end of your stay.Our room was a decent size clean well kept although a little dark. Nevertheless for location peace and GREAT food you will find it hard to beat.The grounds both front and rear are lovely and a great place to sit out.Breakfast at this hotel is amongst the best I have had anywhere... more

We revisited the Lords of the Manor after 30 years for a special birthay treat. The superior room was lovely, with spacious bathroom, and what one would expect for the price (a very reasonable package). The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was superb. However, we were taken aback to be presented on checkout with a bill which included a 'discretionary' 10% service charge- over £80.00 in our case...We paid, but it felt a bit like being mugged, which was such a shame as we had a brilliant stay up to that point.

We discovered the hotel when cycling through the village, staying in Stow a few months back and vowed to return. We did and had a lovely time. It's an old rectory set in some rolling green hills. The front lawn is set up for tea and leads down to a small brook and pond. You can walk round the gardens to the back of the hotel (where the entrance to the car park is) and there is a lovely manicured kitchen style garden. Out the back there is a small terrace adjacent to the dining room where you can enjoy a cheeky drink before dinner.<br... more

Bad service. No wireless in rooms, No phone reception in rooms. The carpets and sofas are warn down with holes. Rooms service is very slow (average 20minutes). Beware at checkout: staff inserts a 10% gratuity on the total bill. No help carrying luggage in our out of the hotel. Finally, the hotel is not in a manor but in the farm house of the manor.
