Ignore the bad reviews
I have just stayed a weekend at the Lygon Arms and loved it. I am glad I didn't cancel, which I had thought about after reading the other reviews. This hotel IS expensive - my wallet is £1500 lighter after two nights. However, the suite I had was in the 16th Century part of the hotel and had its own lounge with open log fire, which we had going almost all the time. The service was exemplary from the moment we had all our bags whisked to the room and the car parked for us. Food choice was varied and the sommelier was very helpful, although... more
Could not wait to check out
Sir, I have today returned from a Saturday night stay at The Lygon Arms - What I wanted was to stay for three nights but they were fully booked. How lucky was I, having to stay just one night was more than enough. With no room in the restaurant I was shunted to the "Bistro" next door to be sat on the smallest of wooden chairs with my back to the others diners. Food was acceptable but only of average standard. This morning, eagerly looking forward to starting the day as one should I found that the The... more
Not worth the money
Spent one night at Lygon Arms and found myself terribly dissapointed. For the money i spent i was expecting something a little better. After being lead through the nice old fashioned part of the hotel we ended up in the tatty "new" wing which was barely up to travel lodge standards and although the room was of a reasonable size it was distinctly average with terrible sound proofing (expect no privacy). The food and drink are also unreasonably expensive, £30 pound for a main course! it felt like the Lygon feels it has to charge... more
Nice stay at the Lygon Arms
My husband and I stayed at the Lygon arms for 2 nights in Nov (sorry this review is a bit delayed!). We had a really nice break there although I do think it is over rated. We had a room in the horrible 1970s extension, which I was about to complain about, but on arrival at the room we were quite impressed. Very nice decor and clean! (plus lovely toiletries.)It even had a nice little patio that you could use if you were there in warmer weather. The food was excellent although very expensive - fine for a treat and there are other... more
Down under revisit was a DISASTER
I stayed at this hotel 30 years ago with my parents, and in August 2005 revisited with my 20 year old son, to acquaint him with the Cotswolds, a place that I held the fondest memory. I suggested to him that we have a weekend of luxury. WHAT A DISASTER! We paid 305 pounds a night, plus a 5% discretion service charge (!) for 2 of the most dreadful nights of our 6 week golfing holiday. Thankfully this included breadfast in the Great Hall, and, I must admit the tea was excellent - actually made without a tea-bag! I don't complain about the food,... more
What no water!
I booked a 3for2 offer as my wife is celebrating her 60th birthday shortly. We were asked on the Friday before starting our stay on Sunday if we wanted to book dinner. What they did not tell us in that call was that the pool/spa was out of action. We wanted to use these facilities as we had used them previously & the weather forecast was not encouraging. In the long narrow room [3for2 offer?] we wanted to shower but the there was no water supply to our room. I told the chambermaid who said she would report it. After having dinner there... more
Don't stay here
NO SOUL - NO DIRECTION Found the hotel most disappointing. The public areas of lounges, reception, hallways to bedrooms, and indeed bedroom carpet all needed thorough cleaning and most refurbishing. The carpets to the bedrooms were absolutely filthy as were the 'rugs' (cheap and nasty) to the main entrance hall to the old part of the hotel and in the lounges. The materials on the chairs and settees were disgustingly co-ordinated, some covered in dust and others so badly stained that I would not have sat on them. Bearing in mind I... more
Good Traditional Hotel
We had the pleasure of staying at the hotel for three nights for the price of two deal which worked out at good value for money. The rooms are a decent size and very clean.the staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was really good but expensive at £19.00 if not in your deal.Which brings me to the only down side of the hotel, the prices they charge for food and drinks is extortionate.Coffee £4.00 per cup, cheese & biscuits after your meal £17.00 and a Balieys from the bar £7.50. I would recommend this hotel but the prices charged for... more
Words fail me - simply dreadful
I took my brother, his girl-friend, and my disabled mother to the hotel for a family weekend, with my wife and our baby. Two nights, and a bill for £2600 for a thoroughly disappointing stay. The rooms in the new wing were basic, small, with thin walls and poor amenities. My junior "suite" was no more than adequate. Breakfast on Saturday was fine, although the 'buffet' was pushed and the staff didn't like me asking for a menu. Sunday was a disaster. The buffet was empty, any requests for the menu were met with "no. buffet only". We had to... more
Eight pounds a pint...
Let me comment on the staff: they were all very friendly and helpful. I did not come across any without a first class grasp of English. So, put the previous review's litle moan to bed. Breakfast on Friday morning was a sedate, relaxed affair with full table service. On Saturday it had transmutated into a fraut, hustly bustly, McDonalds sort of rampage with understocked buffet, prancing table clearers and perspiring chefs. I got the impression they weren't expecting so many for breakfast! It was survival of the politest or the most... more
