We arrived on the Thursday and had the most wonderful meal for 14 guests, the service was brilliant. On Friday we had the wedding - the staff could not have been more obliging and helpful. The room was decorated to perfection. We had all the help we required from the... more

My wife and I have just returned from an excellent weekend at the Wyck Hill House Hotel. Had read some pretty mixed reviews previously but the place reopened under new management two weeks ago (bespoke hotels) and has been fully refurbished to a high spec. All new staff... more

We stayed one night at Wyck Hill House and had a very poor time. The restaurant was freezing and service was very poor at both dinner and breakfast. The carpet in the room was dirty and the hot water took ages to come through. It took over half an hour to check out and the... more

My girlfriend and I were booked in to stay two nights, including New Years Eve, and have to say that we were so impressed with everything about the hotel. We had spotted that the hotel had gone into administration the week before we were due to arrive, and understandably... more

We were so looking forward to a weekend away in the country but by Sunday morning we couldn't wait to leave. Below is a list of issues we had: Unaware there were out buildings we arrived to find our room was across from the main hotel in a building called the organery. ... more

As with previous reviews, initial impressions are fine at check in. It all goes down hill from there. The staff are all very friendly and clearly well versed with apologies. We ordered a full english breakfast on our first morning which was portion controlled to the max,... more

Our first impressions were good of the main part of the hotel, nice location and beautiful building, friendly welcome. We had our dog with us so were put in the stables court area, which again despite a short walk in the dark was pleasant from the outside (Although getting... more

On a day to day basis, this hotel is being run by decent staff who are trying hard but who are simply out of their depth when it comes to delivering the quality level which this company is promising to potential customers. Having spent Christmas 2007 at Wyck Hill, I gained... more

I agree 100% with the last but one reviewer. We stayed at this hotel and it was a complete disaster from beginning to end: incompetent management; very average food; we asked for rose petals to be scattered on our bed (this was part of a romantic get-away deal) but ended up... more

I have to disagree with the other comment. We stayed at this hotel last month and thought it was absolutely lovely. We arrived 4 hours before the guaranteed check in time and the hotel staff were very accommodating and found us a room straight away. The hotel was beautiful... more

Fantastic setting, poor service
I hadn't actually checked Tripadvisor before our weekend visit so had no pre-conceived ideas of what to expect. But spent the weekend being equally surprised and disappointed. The hotel is a whole mixture of good and bad things. Good things: The stunning views over the Cotswolds were exquisite. The spa treatments were first rate and the therapists were really friendly. The room we stayed in was enormous and had the most comfortable pillows, linen and mattress ever. Bad things: The restaurant menu clearly stated that... more
Good value for the Cotswolds
Reading all the negative reviews makes Wyck Hill House sound really rawful but I dont agree at all. Yes, Wyck Hill house has a few problems but for the price you pay here compared to what you pay at other period properties we have stayed at in the Cotswolds, it is good value for money. It is an expensive part of Britain to visit! Also, avoid Saturday night stays when they are at the busiest and quality of customer service seems to drop. We will definitely stay again but not on a Saturday night. We stayed for 2 nights and... more
Disappointing
Last September my partner and I travelled the 1.5hrs to Wyck Hill House from London and stayed in the Orangery (at least I think it was - assuming thats the annex to the main house up above the car park?). We went for a romantic night away and had the pick of hundreds of Cotswold hotels but plumped for this one, largely based on their website. Things we didn't like: * Filthy carpet; * Rude and unhelpful staff; * Sub-standard breakfast; * No spa - it either wasn't built or closed for refurb...but advertised all the... more
Ideal romantic retreat
We booked through lastminute.com and after reading most reveiws on here were happy with the deal we got, however a touch worried about what some people had written (re mouldy rooms, dirty curtains etc). Luckily this was not the case for us! We arrived at 3.30pm and had to wait for about 15minutes to be shown a room and were then told that we had been upgraded to a beautiful luxury double room. It was stunning, rose petals on the bed, flatscreen tv and beautiful bathroom with fluffy white bathrobes. The evening meal was good - especially... more
Overrated and overpriced
My girlfriend and I stayed there for a night recently. Although the hotel is in a lovely setting it let itself down on a number of counts: 1) Room not available on checking in 2) Cleaners equipment in corridor, laundry room door open, had to step over pile of towels on way to breakfast 3) Wine at table differed to bottle ordered, wine not poured during meal 4) slow response to problem with hot water 5) Morning newspaper not delivered 6) Bill included someone else's drinks and meal - no apology!
3 and a half out of 5
This hotel could be very lovely with very little extra effort. We stayed in 2 different standard rooms while we were there, number 22 and number 15. 15 was much better but they are both pretty nice, very stupid position to put the full length mirror though. We got a good deal, £175 for Sat and Sun night inc breakfast and given we could have paid about that to stay in a pub that probably needed updating, it is to be recommended. The staff, particularly one of the receptionists, are great. The only problems are housekeeping, which is... more
Absolutely fantastic!!!
My husband and I have just returned from a weekend at Wyck Hill House and loved every second of it. The perfect venue to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We were in a deluxe room in the new part of the building, which was lovely and contemporary, and had stunning views of the grounds. We had a delicious dinner in the restaurant. The food was wonderful, and there was a very good selection of courses. The breakfast was also very good (particularly the locally produced sausages!) The main rooms of the hotel (library,... more
Awful
Here is a list of the things that happened during our 2 night stay.. 1. Room not available until an hour after promised check in time. No apology 2. Lift not working and no offer of help with luggage to our room on top floor 3. Receptionist rude when we phoned down to ask a question 4. Room not hoovered during our stay 5. No DVD or CD player in room despite claims on hotel literature that these things exist 6. Lamp not working in room and not repaired during stay 7. Wrong wine and food served at 1st evening... more
A huge disappointment
My husband and I were really looking forward to our 3 night stay at Wyck Hill house as we regularly go to the Cotswolds for weekends away. The website promised that an outstanding level of hospitality is experienced at all levels and expectations were high as £3m renovations were recently completed. Unfortunately from the moment we arrived late on a Friday night it was one disappointment after another. We were shown to our room which was not up to the standards I would expect from this sort of hotel. It was shabby, in need of... more
Great rooms and views
Great Country House hotel. Best was the room - very large, wonderfully comfrotable bed, cotton sheets and duvet, plump pillows - would have had a great sleep if the room wsn't so hot! If we'd booked a second night e would have worked out how to get the temperature right. Also a huge plasma screen and DVD player. Good bathroom, loads of hot water, and very quiet. Apparently there was a disco, but we couldnt hear it al all. Our room was in the old house (#22) can't confirm what the new rooms are like. A few niggles - two lamps... more
