excellent

Stayed in the Villa Mirto which could we not fault, very clean modern and spacious, the hotel was excellent with good facilities, plenty to do. My 18 year olds loved it, very relaxing just what was needed before starting at uni. The views were magnificent every morning breakfast on the large veranda watching the boats sail past.. Cannigione is a good sized resort with plenty to see and places to eat. I suggest you hire a car to get about though as busses are far and few between. I would highly recommend this hotel, the food on the complex supurb and would definitely be visiting again.
Hostel not hotel

If you enjoy the luxury of a 4/5 star hotel then this is the place NOT to go. On arrival we found our room situated overlooking the service road to the hotel so we rarely saw the sea just lorries. The room was basic and cheaply decorated with a very old and noisy air conditioning units, our front door didn't shut properly nor did we have a key to the lock on the toilet door. We asked to be moved as we had payed for a senior suite (which is the top room in hotel) and were told that we had been given the best room. We complained about these things 3 times to reception and the rep. They managed to sort them out 4 days later. The room was however clean. The swimming pool only had about 8 fixed shades and minimal beds, so it was get up early and reserve you bed or end up sitting on your towel on the grass. The swimming pool is small and has about 10 feet one end shallow enough for adults to stand up in then the rest of the pool is 8 feet deep. (not too good for our young family). On our first visit to the restaurant we wasn't greeted with a smile just quickly ushered to our table, which was at the rear near the children's room ,so we kindly asked to move , we were then told we couldn't move and this is our table for the duration of the holiday (thanks !) . The food was OK, but there wasn't much choice, it looked a good choice at first until you you realised most of the dishes actually were repeated and just placed in different areas. The breakfast buffet consisted of continental style the only hot food going was some over salty streaky bacon and some unappetising dried up looking scrambled egg, no toast ,just bread. The juice was a choice of red orange or pineapple both came from a machine and were sickly sweet, if you wanted any other juice then you had to pay for it. We decided to book a table at the terrace restaurant upstairs, reception said to book 1 day in advance so we did only to be told there is no availability for a week. One plus side was we returned home without gaining any weight for a change. We were at breaking point so we spoke to our rep, wanting to move hotel, she told us we could move to another delphina hotel but had to pay an extra 2500euros. As we have 3 children aged 4, 7 and 9 we needed a room to accommodate all of us which they didn't have, or 2 rooms next to each other preferably interconnecting, our rep said she cant say if they are next to each other but she would (and made it obviously clear she was reluctant) drive my wife and i to go and have a look at the hotel which was 1.1/2 hours drive away, What she expected us to do with the children for over 3 hours i don't know! We would then find out where the rooms are situated, yes they do have phones in this country but getting anyone to understand you or be bothered to talk to you including the rep is impossible, so we very reluctantly stayed put in the Cala di Falco and tried to grin and bear it. We booked through Holiday Options who I wouldn't recommend, very cheapo airline and disorganised staff. We even had trouble from our private taxi transfer when returning to the airport for our long awaited return flight when he wanted to pick up some other passengers from a town 1/2 an hour away in the wrong direction of the airport ,because they were busy. Overall the Hotel was tired and dated and most of the staff were unhelpful, unfriendly and very arrogant. My family and i travel very often and always stay in lovely hotels and have found staff to be most friendly. We always check out reviews on our hotels and plan carefully to avoid places like this, but we really messed up this time, we read alot of bad reviews on this hotel but we really thought it couldnt be that bad, but yes we clearly was wrong, I would rate this as more of a 2 star property they must have won the other stars in a raffle, and with speaking to several other families staying there who we got to know they also stated how poor this hotel was. What a disappointment ! Sardinia is a very pretty country but lacks the atmosphere and friendliness of mainland Italy and proper Italians. If you are still set on going we would recommend you get an Italian phrase book as mostly they don't speak a word of English even in the hotel reception and above, all don't expect too much
GREAT HOLIDAY !

We had a great time at this hotel Rooms - spotless and fresh towels every day Food - fantastic ! consistently high quality (even the buffets). Definitely go at least half board. If your idea of Italian food is pizza and pasta you will be disappointed. This is the real thing - the freshest ingredients you can get (not like Italian food in the UK) The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful too (though the downstairs restaurant manager was a bit miserable) Children's club - the stsff were excellent and always eager to arrange events for the kids. The evening entertainment for the children was great and all the adults enjoyed it too ! Other guests - mostly Italian with a nice mix of English, French, Dutch and a few other nationalities. Things to do - take a boat tour to one of the islands (easily arranged through the hotel and not expensive (Euro 15 I think for adults). Note the trip to the Costa Smerelda does not mean retail therapy - it means anchoring off one of the small islands and diving from the boat into the sea. Take a bit of bread to feed the fish and watch them jump ! We rented a car and did a short tour (my fears of Italian drivers proved to be unfounded) and also visited a water park which is fun for half a day (we got there about 10.30 at the weekend and were surprised there were no queues all day for the rides). We would definitely go back for another family holiday (or try another hotel in the chain) but I would not recommend this hotel for couples - its quite a lively resort and the hotel brochure itself does state this clearly (even if you cant read Italian). One last word - on the day of our departure our son was in great pain with a foot infection and needed urgent treatment ( BY THE WAY -DONT LET YOUR CHILDREN PLAY FOOTBALL WITHOUT SHOES ON !). The night receptionist was fantastic - he called the 24 hour Tourist Doctor, drove us there and even called his friend to drive us back ! Within the space of an hour we were back at the hotel - now thats service !
great, relaxing holiday

I'll start with the few negatives: The room was spacious for my wife. daughter & I, with adequate air con, king size bed, safe & good cleanliness, but needed updating with regard to furniture and fittings ( tap & hinges were loose). The balcony was unusable in hot weather due to the air con unit being noisy & adding to the hot air. The 'sea view' was mostly obscured by buildings. The choice for vegetarians was adequate apart from the set meal night (Friday), when we had to accept the usual offering of omlette or boiled veg. In general the waiters and head waiters wer very courteous and patient - apart from one who had no sympathy for vegetarians. Entertainment, for adults was poor, with a certain pair of 'performers' being cringingly bad! OK, on to the positives: The preparation and quality of food was outstanding and the local red and white wines (although expensive) were gorgeous. The scenery from the restaurants and pool is idyllic and insists that you relax! The children's entertainment and 'kids' club' is well organised by hard working and pleasant young staff. The service at reception was excellent: A wheel was stolen from our hire car and much communication was needed with the hire company, the breakdown company and my travel agent before I was eventually taken to the airport to collect another car. Lina, on reception made many phone calls on my behalf and was extremely helpful in all respects, as were her colleagues. All beaches visited were beautiful..great snorkelling in clear seas! I thoroughly recommend the Cala Di Falco for a wonbderful family holiday.
Too many kids!!
from DMJW
The Cala di Falco in Cannigione is an average 4* hotel for Sardinia. The staff were very helpful, and took us round 3 rooms to let us choose one we liked best (the hotel is very large, and the first two were 5 mins walk from the main hotel building - we eventually chose one closer to the main hotel building, which was actually a suite that they gave us for no extra cost). The hotel setting is beautiful, with a stunning view over the Gulf of Arzachena (however as far as we could see none of the rooms would benefit from this view as the reception/restaurant/bar building would obscure it). Our main impression of the place though was that it was aimed at young families. As a couple looking to spend some relaxing time by the pool this was not ideal as the toddlers seemed to take it in turns to "go off" so as soon as one stopped screaming another would take its place! If you've got small kids then this might be the ideal place for you with a mini-club to keep them entertained - however for us this was a drawback! We stayed here for 3 nights. The village of Cannigione had enough to keep us occupied for that long, but probably not for much longer. We were B&B only and found some very nice (& quite expensive) places to eat in the town with views over the gulf or the marina, and also a pretty and very reasonably priced pizzeria on the marina road.
Not worth the money

I agree with the person who said it was ideal for families with children. There were hordes of them and some of them very badly behaved, including the parents. I've never come across a place where the clientele are so rude and just boldly stare at you. Also, with there being fewer sunbeds than guests, sunbeds are placed at odd angles, so that the pathways are almost impenetrable. My Mother has a walking stick and isn't very fast on her feet and an Italian family didn't even bother moving their bed (and shoes) slightly so that she could pass by. They were totally blocking the way through. Then we were hemmed in by a German family who had commandeered sunbeds but were lying on giant rubber rings. We'd asked for accommodation without many steps and had to move three times to get this. We had to be quite insistent on the third move. The beach has no facilities, just a few sunbeds. Cannigione is a one-horse town and I wasn't sorry to leave it. The hotel reception staff were pleasant though and one young man on reception was excellent and very helpful. Oh, and the reviewer who said there should be sound-proofing was absolutely right. We heard people going to the loo, babies bawling, not to mention a very loud Italian neighbour barking into his mobile and barking at the family! I was surprised to find, at the poolside, that he was, occasionally, able to speak quietly!
Too Quiet
from stella215
I stayed at this hotel with my husband as the second half of our honeymoon. We had booked a sea view suite. The suite was spacious and clean but very basic. We did have a view of the sea but this was blocked mainly by other buildings. I booked this hotel through Lastminute[""]nd found the write up very misleading as did a lot of other guests. This is a perfect hotel if you have small children as a lot of activities are offered for kids. We did attend this hiotel in low season (June) so this may explain the lack of entertainment. There was a man playing the piano nightly who was very good but after a few nights we were very bored. The resort nearby Cannigione was very quiet with a handful of shops so that wasn't really an option either. The pool area was lovely but you did have to be out by about 9:45 at the latest to get a sunbed, so I dread to think what it would be like in August. The pool was very cold though. The food in the both restuarants was delicious (we went half board) and the waiting staff were very good. I would recommend hiring a car to get around. There is a bus service to Baia Sardinia/Porto Cervo etc but this only runs until about 7/8pm so not an option for a night out. Overall it was a good hotel but not suitable for a honeymoon really. If you have young children and are looking for a quiet holiday this for you. Groups and couples looking for a more luxurious or lively holiday should look elsewhere in my opinion but this may be different in the height of season.
Disappointing
from UkMarty
Let's be clear about this. The hotel club rooms are not 4 star. They are small, drab and in dire need of updating. They are really smaller versions of the apartments, but without the facilites. We upgraded to a seaview room, yes we got the view, but we were also in front of the service road next to the kitchen which meant a sucession of delivery vehicles all day, starting at 0630!. By far the most infuriating aspect of the rooms is the lack of soundproofing. We could hear the occupants upstairs walking around and even their toilet movements, plus next door's children. Consequently, we did not get a decent nights sleep all week. The pool and gardens are nice but again there are only 8 fixed parasols so those wanting shade might miss out, and most of the loungers were taken by 1000 - once again it is the same story, the number of occupants is in indirect proportion to the number of beds. And don't think you can drag the beds to the lawn to seek shade under the palm trees - we tried but the lifeguard ordered us back to the pool! If you arrive on a Saturday be aware. Despite rooms being having to be vacated by 1000 ours was not ready until 1600 which meant a 2 hour wait - unacceptable. On a plus side the food and restaurent service is excellent. make sure you book the downstairs restaurent as soon as you arrive - it is far superior. Cagiogne has a few shops, bars and restaurents but you will have exhausted its charms after one visit. There are a couple of nice bars on the harbour front. I you are feeling energetic try walking to the top of Monti Li Corrou (it dominates the rear of the hotel) but be aware that it is quite a hike and the path traverses some dense scrubland. Perhaps we were unlucky but for the cost I believe we could have done much better.
Food to die for

Club Hotel Cala di Falco offers a great holiday for those wishing to experience the 'real' Sardinia. Great location for exploring other towns geared slightly more towards tourists. Car is essential for exploring many scenic bays each with their own unique styles. Food at hotel is excellent, particularly for lovers of seafood. Hotel has more of a club atmosphere with pretty walkways to hotel rooms. Request ground level if steps are a problem. Rooms were in Sardinian style but very basic and in need of refurbishment with desparate shortage of wardrobe or drawer space. Disappointing given that this was a four star hotel, but our elevated position did mean that we did have wonderful, although partial, view of the sea. Hotel staff were very friendly. Hotel more suited to families with toddlers. Not much on offer for teenagers at hotel or in town. Loved Sardinia despite freak weather conditions which, apparently, affected the whole of Italy. Beautiful pretty coastline. Visit to Baie Sardinia, and particularly Porto Rotundo, is a must. Watch billboards dotted around town for local cultural events which are worthwhile.
Absolutely Fantastic

We've just come back from a great 2 weeks here with our one year old daughter. I apologise if this review is huge, but I could rave for ever! We had an apartment, which I'd describe as adequate rather than posh. I think the hotel rooms and junior suites are much nicer, though obviously more expensive. We had a kitchenette and a separate bathroom and bedroom with 2 sofa beds available in the living room. Bed was great, everything was clean and we had a lovely covered terrace with an airer and table and chairs. None of the apartments really have much of a view, but as we didn't spend a huge amount of time there it wasn't really a bother. Some of them surround a second swimming pool but are a bit overlooked. The hotel facilities were great. The main swimming pool is large and surrounded by sunbeds and umbrellas - the view from there over the Arzachena gulf is wonderful. We spent many days just lounging there - there's a bar service to the pool and you can rent towels (free if you're in a hotel room). We paid 50 euros each for 7 breakfasts. Great choice - hot and cold buffet with fresh omelettes and lots of coffee. The waiters were friendly and helpful and there were plenty of high chairs available. The two restaurants both offer 4 course meals - we were quite envious that we hadn't gone for half board. We ate in the grill restaurant one night - great food but quite expensive - the rest of the time we ate in the numerous restaurants in Cannigione. The hotel runs boat trips and has a children's club (4+) , though apart from a small playground they didn't have any specific childrens's facilities. There were also lots of entertainments in the evening and complimentary drinks by the pool/on the terrace (lovely view) etc. There were lots of families with young children there so if it's peace and quiet you're after, I'd go elsewhere but as a couple with a baby we thought it was ideal. The beach in Cannigione isn't that great but there's a little train that runs to Mannena beach which is beautiful white sand. It's not necessary to have a car here - the shops and restaurants are all within walking distance, and there is an infrequent bus service to Porto Cervo and Baia Sardinia. We did hire one for a few days though to visit some of the beaches - Capriccioli is highly recommended - though get there early! It looks more like the Seychelles than Europe. Great for toddlers! All in all, we had an absolutely fantastic time and were very sad to leave. Cala di Falco isn't that cheap, and I would say the apartments are 3 star, rather than 4 star like the rest of the hotel. We will go back though will either upgrade to a junior suite, or take friends and get one of their very nice villas. Highly recommended!
