Holiday Inn Gloucester

We had an enjoyable Easter break at the Holday Inn. The double room was comfortable and clean with contemporary decor.Check in and all dealings with staff were good. The hotel was very busy so the breakfast service was quite frenetic,despite this staff were helpful and tried to accommodate our requests {green tea,none available} As the hotel was so busy [families and some sports teams] we decided not to eat in the hotel restaurant and went out for dinner. Stayed 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. On arrival, our requested twin bedroom (2 single beds) was not provided and we were "told" that there was nothing that they could do and we had to take a double room. The staff have a pretty "cannot do" attitude and were not particularly helpful. Bedroom doors are too heavily spring-loaded (in order to work as fire doors, I guess) and people end up slamming them as they go out. The din was terrible. We stayed with a coach tour to the Millennium Stadium on our way from Carlisle as the team were playing Swansea in the FA Trophy Final. We stayed at the Holiday Inn for one night only, including breakfast. Check-in was a breeze and my fiancee and me were on the 2nd floor, which was just a short trek up some stairs. This is a refurbished Holiday Inn with pleasant bedrooms. The rooms are now modern and well-lit. However, staff training and management needs attention. On check-in, my Priority Club membership "did not register on the system". Odd, as it has on all the many bookings I have made recently with IC Hotels. Then my credit card was processed and came back "cancelled". Odd, as I used it several times that day successfully and afterwards! My husband & I booked an 'Escape to the Cotswolds' break at the Holiday Inn Gloucester and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was very spacious and looked like it had been recently refurbished. As we'd booked a dinner, bed & breakfast package we dined in the hotels resturant on both evenings and have to say it was superb. The menu would not have been out of place in a trendy gastro pub or bistro and offered lots of choice. The staff were exceedingly welcoming and really made us feel valued as guests. We stayed at this hotel as a weekend break away and did not find it as good as most Holiday Inn hotels. We were put in a room near a swimming pool extractor fan which stays on 24 hours. Even with the windows closed this was noisy especially at night. We could not move as the hotel was full. Whilst the sports leisure facilities are lovely, they are open to the public and were very full with families at the weekend. Not the most relaxing hotel overall, although our room was clean and comfortable, I would not stay here again.

When I say I stayed here, I had booked to stay there for 6 nights. I was given the room number, went to the room to find a chalet type affair with a connecting door to the room next door. The room was so small. I went back to reception to ask if I could pay for an upgrade, no rooms were available. I booked out immediately. The guy at reception was very helpful and said I would only be billed for the first and last night of my stay. Ho Hum never again!

We found the Holiday Inn to be very comfortable and well appointed. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the pool was a real bonus. Despite the hotel's proximity to a main road the room was quiet and the grounds very leafy. The location is great for Gloucester if you have a car and we managed to get a good web deal so all in all it was great value.

Used my Priority Club points for a night here while visiting in the Cotswolds area (a huge saving in Canadian dollars) and was very satisfied. This is a modern hotel with comfortable, though not huge rooms. Front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast is an excellent buffet. There is also a health club attached and proximity to the M5 is a bonus for those travelling through the area. It takes only a couple of minutes to get to downtown Gloucester.

This is a great hotel. You may know, you may not but a few years ago in 2001 InterContinental Hotels(formerly Six cOntinents/Bass) took over Posthouse Hotels and most of them changed. This one used to be a Posthouse.This hotel welcomed you with the new contemporary Holiday-Inn style which was launched in 1999 with Posthouse.
