Good all round hotel
from jenham
We stayed at this hotel for a week in July 2007. I went with my boyfriend and another couple. THE HOTEL The hotel was lovely, clean and the staff were very friendly and accomodating. They immediately placed us in rooms next to each other and were helpful with regards to other requests and generall tourist information. We did have to pay extra for the use of air con and a fridge but we were aware of this before choosing the hotel. The breakfast selection could be a little more varied but it was bareable and they don't hurry you out as soon as the breakfast times are over. THE POOL The pool was nice, with two snack bars and never had a problem getting sunloungers . It also had easy access to the beach if we wanted a change in the day. LOCATION I found the location perfect. It was close to the centre of kalamaki (about 5 mins walkng distance), close to the beach and quite at night. Kalamaki has great selection of cocktail bars and restaurants. Getting a taxi to laganas was easy if you want more nightlife. AIRPORT Yes the hotel is near the airport as with all hotels in Kalamaki. The planes are low and there is aircraft noise when planes take off and land. However, I did not find the noise level irritating, dissruptive or excessive to my holiday at all. There are only about four planes a day and the airport is quiet after 10pm. Over all this hotel was perfect for us. It was just what I expected and would deffinately recommend or visit this hotel again.
Greek delight!

We stayed at the Kalamaki for 2 weeks in Sept and had a really chilled break. We had a few niggly problems with the room, but all were resolved very quickly as soon as reported to reception. The rooms are very cramped with little storage, and the bathroom was the tiniest I'd ever seen in a hotel, as already reported on previous reviews, but the closeness to the beach and the peace and quiet of the hotel and area itself made up for the drawbacks. Our room was on the 1st floor (307) nearest the pool which had a lovely view of the sea from the balcony. If you're going to stay here expecting entertainment then you'll be disappointed (unless you count the banter with the lovely Emmie in the bar!) as there is none, however we went to the hotel next door for a greek nite and a "Rat Pack" nite which were both very entertaining. There are lots of bars on the main strip which have music and entertainment so we didnt spend much of our evening in the hotel. The staff were all excellent and eager to please, speaking good english, including Takis, Sophia and the pool bar man who we never found out his name! Emmie in the evening bar also speaks excellent greek ... for a girl from Cardif!!! The nearby restaurants were all really welcoming with excellent varied menus and no queues, but if you want to go to the best one, make an effort to go up to the Michaelos which was always busy and had the best greek food I have tasted, as well as steaks to die for! We went 3 nites and werent disappointed once, but be prepared to wait in the little patio area beside the restaurant for 15-20 mins for a table, because it is so popular. Breakfast was ok as long as you didnt go expecting full english - bread, fruit, cakes, cold meats and cheese, yoghurt and boiled eggs. Every day! Finally, dont be afraid if you see any dogs wandering round the beaches - they are not dangerous and have been dumped there by greeks who have got bored with them and all they want is a crumb of food and a bit of attention (which I gave them every morning with the cold meat and cheese from my breakfast!). They are fed in the winter with porridge by a group of local greek women to keep them from starving when the tourists have gone. I would recommend this holiday for couples wanting to relax and be as near to the beach as possible.
Lovely hotel with brilliant staff

We have just got back from our stay and we had a brill time, The hotel has everything you need to enjoy your stay at kalamaki especially if you are like us and want to explore your holiday destination and not just the hotel. This hotel is very reasonable for the price you pay, it is very clean and the staff make the hotel really something. the facilities they have on site are great, the swimming pool & children pool is very clean with a snack bar located next to it with easy listening music playing in the back ground, The taverna on the beach is very good you can sit and relax watching the sea drinking an ice cold glass of wine, the food served here is also tasty and cheap. cocktail bar is also very entertaining probably a good atmosphere there at peak season, good music nice cocktails. The breakfast room is nice you can sit out side and have you breakfast in the morning, Breakfast choice is limited but it is ok. The hotel room is basic but it has everthing you need to enjoy your stay at the hotel, the fridge is charged at 3euro per day but it's worth it to keep some alcholic beverages in to sip, on the balcony while you are getting ready to go out and sample the local restaurants and bars. The reception staff have a lot of time for you and we would definitly go back again, right next to the beach not far from the bars what else could you ask for.
very disappointed

We have just returned from 2 weeks hoilday in the kalamaki beach hotel. When we arrived i was very excited looks great from the outside, we were then taken to our room which was very small and very basic, our balcony is the smallest i have ever seen. You then had to pay for air-con £50 for 2 weeks and then for the fridge and also the safe....!! when i went to reception they told me my hair colour was on their towels so could i buy my own to use... and also we moved the bed so it was under air-con and got told your not to move the furniture and also got asked to tidy my room the maid said it was too untidy. i felt like i was in boarding school. I did not find the staff that friendly they did not go out of their way to make you welcome. We booked our hoilday 6 months ago and paid good money for it everyone else there were on last min cheap deals and all had better rooms than us!! We were on bed and breakfast, the breakfast was rubbish it was soggy cereal and hot milk and it got put out early and just left there, no staff if you needed anything and the cups were dirty, then it was self service and you had to tidy up after yourself... there was no luxury there. there is no way this hotel is 4 star i would say about 2 star. The bar is meant to be open untill you got to bed but you are lucky if its open any later than 1am... The only good thing about the hotel is that it is close to the beach but once there you need to pay for sunloungers. i was glad to come home 2 weeks was too long. The pool area was a good size pool was very nice and you could always get a bed. i would not rush back....
Fab holidays in Zakynthos....
from Klarunka
Just got back from fab holidays in Zakynthos.Stayed in Kalamaki beach hotel with my mum for one week. Before I booked this hotel I read as most of people reviews...they were generally good.Me personally I had no complaints at all,in fact I had great time there....the hotel is rated as 4 star and they deserve it.It's well situated right on a lovely long beach set in tropical gardens, lovely clean pool+pool for kids with free sunbeds and parasols. You pay for the beds on the beach 7 EUROS for a day but you pay everywhere no matter where you go,so why to fuss about it.The hotel is very clean, they cleaned our room every day,the stuff is very friendly too and helpful. We had breakfast only because we didn't want to be limited in terms of time to be back for lunch or dinner as we travelled a lot around the island. The breakfast was every day the same:selection of fresh fruit salad, bread, ham, cheese, boiled eggs, cakes, cornflakes, joghurt, tea, coffee, frut juices-I'm healthy eater and woudn't mind to see some vegetables too and possibly brown bread or muesli but i didn't go to Greece to eat but to explore the place.Plus it had been so hot that at least us we had no apetite. On the actual beach was a girl selling fresh fruit salad bowls for 3 EUROS each and we had them every day, they were delicious.Kalamaki hotel has got it's own Taverna with a seaview where you can enjoy nice meals and watch swimmers in the sea. The waiters are very friendly...all the locals are very friendly. If someone says the opposite,it's only because they have no attitude themselves and expect good treatment back. The hotel is situated 5 mins walk from the main road full of tavernas,bars,shops....the meals were delicious! There are also buses that take you to the capital which is nearby. It's a lovely bay town! You can also either hire a car to go around the island or take one of the daily trips they offer at the local travel agencies. We took the Top Cruise which is one day boat trip around the whole island. It was amazing! They stop at the famous stops:Shipwreck,Blue Caves,St.Nicolas beach.....you have time to swim in crystal clear water...never seen such a beautiful colour before. If you like water sports,go to St.Nicolas beach...there's a free bus that takes you there and for 8 Euros you get free sunbeds and transport there and back which is great as the journey takes about 25 minutes and it's surely worth to see that part of island too. It's child friendly island and it's great for every generation. Greeks are very lovely, warm, welcoming and they love kids(they always treated them with free ice creams, lollies etc..) If you are after Ibiza English style of holidays go to Laganas which connects with Kalamaki beach. We went there one eve just to see that part and was glad I didn't book some hotel there.Drunk young English everywhere behaving the way we all know and recognize all over the world. But the beach is lined with variety of tavernas and bars where we had lovely quiet meal and watched the sea glittered by full moon. So,over all,the holidays we had had been superb!!! No matter what is your intention:going to Greece to explore the real thing, try their cuisine, meet the locals or getting drunk, stuffed with burgers and fries in front of big plazma TV while watching football or Big Brother in one of the local bars, you will have great time because the locals will accept you and make you welcomed no matter who you are. However I believe if you are in the first group you receive far more! We met lots of nice Greeks wherever we went and always had free drinks and deserts wherever we ate or passed by. Have a lovely time there :)
great friendly hotel in great location.

this is a great hotel and really enjoyed my week here. its pretty much right on the beach so you can pop to and fro, for a dip in the sea without paying for sunbeds there. rooms are basic but clean. bedding and towels are changed every three days but rooms cleaned daily. reception staff are really friendly. only thing is you do have to pay extra to use air conditioning and fridge (we did need air conditioning as went there when there was a heat wave!) dont really need fridge as water is cheap to buy so might aswell buy daily. no cooking facitilites but breakfast was provided (allthough not a great choice-toast, cake!, bread, peachs and yogurt). short walk to the main road of kalamaki where all the restaurants are (plenty to choose from). laganas (clubby area) is about 20-25 mins walk away. would defiently stay again.
I would go back

We stayed at the Kalamaki Beach Hotel in the last week in May. Just needed a short relaxing break. The hotel was the first hotel to be built in this particular area (on the beach) or so we were informed by the owners and I have no reason to doubt it. Although it is about twenty years old it, has been well maintaned and recently refurbished prior to this season opening. The staff are verry nice , genuinely helpfull and pleasant, they go out of thier way to accomodate you, although some might say that is thier job, my gut instict told me it was all genuine. It is a familly concern, run by the familly and other staff, It is clean spacious lounges and dining room. We stayed on a B&B tarrif as we like to dine out in different restraunt's. The breakfast is basic as in all Greek hotels, not much choice and becomes boring after a few days. Breakfast consist's of bread rolls, cheese slices , ham slices, corn flakes, cocoa pops, tinned peach slices yoghurt and honey, hard boiled eggs, slices of cake, jam, butter, biscuits, coffee, Tea, and three types of juice. As I say , verry basic but plenty of it. The room was clean and again basic, but all we needed. It was lacking in storage space, one small double wardrobe, two bedside cabinates each with a small draw and a dressing table with two small draws, we only unpacked half our clothes, the rest remained in the suitcase untill we needed it. There was a T.V. but no English channels, not even the BBC world news which I like to watch first thing in the morning while waiting for my wife to get ready, but that was no big deal as that is all the TV I would watch anyway. The bathroom was tiny, (see picky 1) consisted of a shower tray with curtain, so small that the curtain stuck to your body if you moved an arm to wash yourself, this dragged the curtain out of the shower tray and water would flood the floor all around the shower and toilet , although there is a drain in the floor to take most of the water away. If you sat on the toilet you could just about manage it without putting your feet in the shower tray, it was so tight, and I'm not a big person. The wash bowl had one of those tall swan neck type mixer taps, and so made it quite awkward to wash and shave as the tap had to be swung to the side to enable you to scoop water onto your face if you keep your face over the wash bowl. We had a nice long veranda with a table and two plastic chairs and a quite nice view of the mountains and the sea. The main bar was just infront of the hotel, then there is the pool bar which opened early morning untill about six pm: The beach restraunt / snackbar was right on the beach and also closes at about six pm: This is due to the fact that the beach belongs to the nesting turtles, and no one is allowed on there afer dusk. The beach is a lovely sandy beach with quite shallow clear water and no rocks or seaweed to stuble over, you could walk out a good hundred metre's and still only be waiste deep, exellent for kids and so safe. The resort is directly inline with the flightpath for the airport but this was not a big problem, the noise was not anything like you would imagine and you soon got used to it, it did'nt spoil things atall.
Not worthy of the 4-star rating it gets on some websites...

The hotel's brochure and website claim that all rooms are sea-vies - there are at least 10 which don't have any sea-view at all. They charge 5 Euros per night each to use the fridge / air-conditioning units in the bedrooms - so you could end up paying an extra 70 Euros for a week for these facilities. The breakfast is very basic, buffet-style with not much choice. We booked and paid for a sea-view room that slept 2-3 people. At first we were given a good sized room but it had a view of the car-park (opposite side to the sea) - we then got moved but it was a very small double-room with a tiny balcony. Had a sea-view though! On the plus side, the pool area is nice and you are less than a minute onto the beach. If you use the loungers on the beach you will have to pay, but the loungers around the pool are free. The hotel is very clean, and the receptionist who works in the afternoon is very friendly. Girls, take your hairdryers with you! Not all the rooms have them and reception only have 1 so you might have to wait a while for it...!
Good hotel

Very nice hotel but a bit isolated. Situated in the touristic area of Laganas. 150 meters from the beach. Air-conditionning not included in the room rate (supplement of Euro 5.-- per day).
Excellant Hotel

Kalamaki Beach Hotel is the place for a totally relaxing holiday, in a lovely clean hotel, with excellant, friendly staff. My husband and I went on our first holiday together with our four year old son in 1997, o.k the hotel room was basic, but do you need anything more than a bathroom and bed? We fell in love with Zakynthos and have just got back from two weeks of sun, sea and plenty of good food, and friendly people. We have gained some great friends at Kalamaki Beach, it is a family run hotel, which we prefer, Takis,Denise, Nikos, Dimitris,Denise are all wonderful, not forgetting Zeta, who works on reception, also the cleaning lady who does a fantastic job. We went in May 2003 and were told that when we went back thisyear they would have completed the refurbishments, and they weren't wrong. The change to the hotel is amazing, they have done a marvellous job, and we are the lucky ones to go back in October, when we know we will have a great time, regardless of the weather. So to everyone at Kalamaki Beach Hotel, we can't wait until our next trip to see you all. Visit their website at -----------------------------------
