Arrived in Oxford in late afternoon as the first leg of a road trip around England and Wales. Hotel is outside of Oxford city but is right next to a park and ride station which was really convenient. Check in was nice and quick and friendly. Very helpful with our 18 month... more

Booked online for this hotel for an Easter break, on arrival discovered we had been put in a double smoking room, which absolutely reeked, so complained and were moved to a twin room! Complained again and were finally moved to a non-smoking double, phew! The staff tried to... more

Just as pleased on the second visit
This was the second time we had stayed at this hotel, the last being three years ago when the hotel had just opened. Three years on the hotel still felt new, and very clean. The family rooms have a double, plus two singles made out of a sofa, but they are still spacious, with appropriate but not extravagant facilities. The food remains excellent, whether in the restaurant or room service, the breakfasts have a decent buffet and the swimming pool and gym are of a good size and again, very clean. Staff are all very polite and helpful (we asked for a delayed checking out time as my son became unwell, and this was moved from 12.00 to 5.00; the children were given gifts on leaving). We will go back for a third time very soon.
Nice and modern, service slightly lacking
The hotel is a pleasant, purpose-built Holiday Inn, just next to the A34 and the Peartree Park and Ride, making it a convenient location for the motorist visiting Oxford and surrounding area. There is loads of free parking, and a petrol station with Little Chef (as well as a Travelodge) next door. In spite of its location, I was not aware of any significant traffic noise (though my room faced away from the road). The room was clean and comfortable, as was the hotel in general. I enjoyed my breakfast, though my partner did not (the hot buffet may not appeal to all, but there is cereal, fruit, toast etc) and we agreed that if paying separately, it would be pricey at £15 per head. Inclusive room rates, if available, put it at £10-ish on top of room-only rates. Service was the only gripe. The staff were friendly and willing, however check-in was slow as only one member of staff in the reception area. The room was not cleaned between the two nights we were there, and whilst clean towels were delivered promptly on request, no attempt was made to compensate or check if anything else needed attention. Finally, my partner was challenged on entering the breakfast area at a different time to me, in spite of me ensuring this would be OK, and so felt unwelcome. I understand that many of the staff were not the usual ones, due to a staff function, so this may account for it - and nothing was severe enough to put me off a future potential stay.
New and conveniently located
I stayed one night at this hotel. I think's it's a good choice for someone who does not want to spend too much while enjoying a good quality room. The hotel itself is (or at least looks!) new, the rooms were nice, it was clean and in general there was nothing that annoyed me. They even have a free fitness room and, if I remember well, a small swimming pool, which is unusual for this kind of hotel (I haven't seen these facilities myself though). Note however that the hotel is outside the city, in a practical but unappealing location next to a parking lot. It is really close to the city, and you can easily reach a bus stop from where bus number 300 will lead you to the city centre in minutes; however, to get to the bus stop you have to walk along a busy road for about 5 minutes to a large parking lot. It's not exactly a romantic walk. Another downside is that the staff are correct but really cold, even by English standards. But then again, I only stayed there very shortly. I can't really say anything was wrong, but surely they were not very friendly. Overall, this is not the place for a romantic weekend but I think it's a good alternative for those who want a good price-quality ratio. I would stop there again.
Very convenient and comfortable hotel
I found this hotel to be very conveniently situated (as long as you come by car) as the park and ride into Oxford is great value and just next door. It is also very easy to get from here to do sightseeing outside the city, such as Blenheim Palace and even the Cotswolds aren't too far away. The standards of cleanliness and amenities were high. The restaurant was good, the choice and quality of the food was excellent, particularly the specials.
Clean comfortable rooms, friendly service
My family and I stayed in the Hotel for a short break in Oxford. The Hotel is right next to a very convenient park and ride service so the location was very good. The rooms and public spaces were bright, modern, clean and comfortable. We found all the staff to be very helpful and friendly sorting out any minor problems quickly and efficiently. The beds were comfortable and although the Hotel was right next to the busy motorway it was double glazed and secondary glazed and we were surprised by the fact that we were not disturbed by the noise at all. The breakfast was buffet style and plentiful, although a bit crowded and busy. We ate in the restaurant one evening and although the food was nice it was very expensive for what it was and i did not consider it good value. I would recommend taking advantage of the late night park and ride bus and eating in Oxford. A good reasonably priced base for Oxford. I would recommend it.
Okay for a short trip!
I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times a year for the past 5 years and in general haven't had any problems. Granted, I would agree with some of the other reviews that the staff could do with being a little more helpful and welcoming! If you book on line you can generally count on your bill being correct and keep the confirmation print outs before you go to the hotel that way they cannot despute anything! Normally I stay on the 4th floor which is the executive floor of the hotel. A little bit more expensive but nice touches such as bathrobes, better toiletries, VERY comfortable bed and great Japanese blinds which make the room very calming - worth the extra £20 or so especially if a company are paying or you are having a treat night out! Check the mini bar before you use (if you use!) I found something missing when I arrived and they need to be told or you might end up footing the bill for someone elses mess up! Myself and friends have eaten at the hotel. The breakfasts are excellent expecially if included in your rate or you will be charged £15 each which will come as a shock at the end of your stay so watch that one! There is a Little Chef next door which is just as good. The hotel sports facilities are good. Lovely clean pool and Jacuzzi and towels, worth a go. The bar staff usually efficient and nice and relaxing in the evening. Hotel in general is very clean and comfortable and having stayed in hotels all over the world it is as good as any other of the same standard - I keep staying there through choice and it is so handy with close proximity to Oxford City Centre.
Great Hotel - shame about the staff
I stayed here for one night. Its a new hotel and in the services area off the motorway and beside a garage so you can run out and grab water and nibbles if you need to. The rooms are bright and well maintained and with a bigger than usual size. I was in an executive room and the room around the bed was at least 10 foot with an added seating area with an armchair and sofa. The bathroom was big as well and bright and clean with white tiling although with the usual basic tioleties. The staff were not helpfull, although I am a gold member with Intercontinental, because I turned up in training kit I felt they were looking down on me which I generally dont get at better hotels. Any additional information I asked for was like pulling hens teeth to the point that it put me off asking anything else. Stay here if you are not having to deal with the staff much.
okay-some problems
We recently spent a family weekend at this hotel-room great, breakfast great, hotel very clean, easy access to park&ride into city centre.Room service not good-repeatedly made requests for extra cups-only two provided for a family of four-which never arrived.Used room service for meal on Saturday evening-childs main course totally not what we ordered, cream missing from pudding, bread on my sandwiches was stale to the point of curling up at edges. We sent it all back and received apology from staff and no charge. At checkout tried to charge for breakfasts which were included in room rate!!Would probably stay here again but eat elsewhere and check bill properly before paying!!!
How Much is that Bill?!?!
Being a big fan of the Holiday Inn chain for its convenience and friendly staff as well as the competitive price, we thought we would try the Holiday Inn in Oxford. We had stayed at the Oxford Hotel a few weeks previous. Both hotels are of a good "chain" standard and once again we found the staff very friendly and helpful at the Holiday Inn. My only gripe... and this happens time after time... is that they never get the bill right. Holding Balance/Swipe but not cashed transactions/paid on the internet in full and then told we had not/then ended up paying double and had to get a refund......and yet another argument over the bill which is ongoing two weeks after!! WHY CANNOT HOLIDAY INN HAVE THE SAME POLICY AT EACH HOTEL AND DO AWAY WITH HOLDING BALANCES (where they just swipe your card for security but do not cash - or so they say!) WHICH THEY CASH AT A LATER DATE!!!
