After booking online to stay at this Hotel, i was more than disturbed to read the 2 reviews on this site.
To say " I was dreading" the mistake i had obviously made was an understatement!
I just want to let people know....that under no circumstances take these 2 peoples comments as anywhere near the truth!!
Myself, mother and 20 yr old daughter returned from 2 weeks stay at this wonderful hotel yesterday, with nothing but praise, and fond memories of our stay. I was determined to put right the impression that has been given of the "Poseidon".
Our room was spotless...the staff extremely friendly and helpful in any way they could be. We have been treated as "family", and consider ourselves fortunate to have met with such wonderful people.
I would highly reccomend this hotel!!

Jun 2007, Ms S Dams

Myself & two friends (all ladies of a certain age!) arrived at the Poseidon on 5th June at 9.30pm - two hours later we had left and found ourselves alternative accommodation (our rep had finished for the evening!).
We couldn't stay even one night in this horrible place and had to trek round Kamari looking for another hotel.
The only good thing about the hotel is that it is situated on the edge of the beach; it is dingy, smelly, needs completely updating, and is quite utterly depressing.
I wouldn't recommend the Poseidon to anyone but on saying that Kamari is a nice resort with loads of places to eat; the food is reasonably priced and quite good quality.
We paid extra to change hotels but as this is not an option for everyone, do yourself a favour and take my advice don't book it! - You have been warned.

May 2007, Mr G.L. Wright

We spent a week at this establishment and would not recommend it for anyone.
We arrived on Tuesday 1st May 2007 to find the hotel was nowhere near ready to accept guests.
The swimming pool was empty and was not ready for use until Saturday 5 May.
There was also a rather unpleasant dry, musty smell present which was particularly bad in the rooms.
This smell was presumably due to the hotel being closed up for the winter since it appeared less obvious as the week went on, although it was still noticeable on the day we left.
I have to say that there appeared to be a lot of hotels and restaurants in a similar state of unpreparedness along the seafront, but I am unaware if they had any guests staying with them.
In fact at the start of the week, the resort looked rather tacky and run down, although it did improve as the week went on.
We found the management and staff very unhelpful, we requested a room change because of building work right outside our window but they were reluctant to help.
They had little choice however, when a leaking toilet flooded the bathroom.
It would appear that we made the mistake of arriving on the "first day of the season" but surely if bookings are accepted then everything should be ready before any guests arrive.
The resort itself certainly looked a lot better when we left but I was still not terribly impressed with Kamari as a whole.
I can recommend the food and service at the "Bella Napoli" towards the opposite end of the sea front walk, this calls itself a Pizzeria and Trattoria but in fact serves a lot more than that. The Lamb Kleftiko is particularly good.
If you decide to visit Thira, then I can also recommend the "Naoussa" restaurant, very good food at reasonable cost. Get there before the sunset though, it gets very busy.
(It is next door to a Chinese restaurant)
To sum up, don't visit Santorini till at least the third week in May - a lot of it is shut!!
There are better hotels than the Poseidon Beach - do yourself a favour and seek them out.
