Grande Hotel do Porto

I agree with the other reviews for the Grande Hotel do Porto -- it IS centrally located, and the lobby and main hallway areas are spacious. That said, we encountered issues with the plumbing in our room: and upon surfacing those issues to the front desk, realized that others were experiencing them as well. A foul odor and noisy gurgling kept us awake at night. While I'd recommend this hotel for those wanting to be within walking distance to shops and sites, I'd suggest you call to confirm there are no plumbing issues and/or be prepared... more

If you want a nice quiet room in the upscale neighborhood of central Porto then go to the Grande Hotel. From this hotel you can walk to the river area for touring and partying, but don't sleep in that area as the revelers can party into the wee hours. Stay in the neighborhood of the Grande Hotel. The Grande Hotel provides spacious rooms with huge baths at a great price. Central porto hotel excellent for all shops and river trips etc staff excellent ,prices reasonable, food average but excellent restaurants near by, good rooms but dated some very small ours excellent size bigest on floor.Bathrooms clean and tidy airconditioning good views from hotel not good into back yards but quiet and easy to sleep.

I stayed there with my wife and infant and we had a great stay for four days. The staff were very helpful and the free breakfast, although a little light was adequate. The location was convenient and in a great shopping neighbourhood. We had a few meals in the restaurant which were above average for the other meals that we had in Porto. In general, I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a decent 3 star with good family-friendly service in a great location.

I stayed at Grande Hotel do Porto for two weekends during February (it was not my first time there). The lobby is sumptuous and the corridors and large but the rooms do not have the proper conditions for a Hotel that wants to stand out as one of Oporto’s best. There are several kinds of rooms: tiny rooms and huge rooms – and you pay the same, so be sure to ask for a big room if at all possible. My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights in this hotel. Staff is quite helpful, and they speak English and French. The hotel makes a great impression when you enter it, spacious entrance area, lounge area, clean toilets for the guests before you check in, bartender very helpful. So it makes a great first impression, it also has very good location, on the main shopping street so that’s a great advantage. We stayed 3 nights at this 3 star hotel, which used to be a 4 star one. It is a very well kept art deco style hotel. Less a star means a bit less service , no bell boys etc. But the public rooms are magnificent still. The bed rooms are modern and small unless you are lucky enough to be upgraded to one of the fantastic suites as we were. It is hard to find a better placed hotel in Oporto, central opposite the famous Majestic cafe. My wife and I stayed here for two nights. We got an exceptional rate of 50 euros/night by spanish agency`s Viajes Halcón travel checks. The location is really good, in the heart of the commercial street Santa Caterina, near Batalha square and Avenida Dos Aliados, now in reform works. We stayed three nights at Grande do Porto. Location of the hotel is almost perfect. Shops and sights are near, but the area where all the nightlife is, is a bit further away (not far). Hotel has own garage, which was relatively easy to find. There's no hope trying to find a parking space on the streets. There were some problems with our room in the beginning, but the staff was friendly and everything worked out. Some rooms are really small. Good value for money.

We arrived in Porto early in the morning and was very easy to find the bus that connects the airport with porto central. The bus actually stops of at all the major hotels, just ask the driver when you board. We arrived at the Hotel before the check in but the hotel allowed us to store baggage and offered any advice i required to help me out on where and how to get to the major sites.
