Great stay
from Lizbrum
We had a great stay so I was really disappointed after staying at the hotel to read one of the reviews which was really negative. We rang the hotel a couple of nights before arriving and because we were at the end of a 6 week holiday and spending 3 nights in Porto I requested a large room. The staff were absolutely wonderful helping in this regard and I cannot thank them enough. I found the hotel was really well situated - close to the Metro, the lovely shopping area of inner Porto and really only a pleasant 10 min walk down to the Riberia. The hotel was clean, service was excellent and in contrast to another traveller, I thought the breakfast was more than sufficient. When we were there the breakfast room was really busy as there were lots of travellers staying, however the staff continually refilled trays and bowls. The internal staircase is awesome and spend some time looking at the bits and pieces in the cabinets on each floor - contain many little interesting objects. I can only congratulate the hotel - well done!
Decent Value

My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights and had a good experience. Our room was located at the end of the hallway after the fire door so it was quiet since we didn’t have anyone passing by our room. The room had an entry area with a desk, a large bathroom, and a large bedroom with a sitting area with a couch and two chairs. The room did have “old world charm” but didn’t feel too old and worn. Breakfast was sufficient with rolls, deli meats and cheese, canned fruit, and cereal. The hotel is located a bit further from the tourist attractions but with the money we saved it was worth traveling a few extra minutes.
Never again

We regretfully didnt put much thought when we booked this one. We thought it was going to be at least a bit charming but it was just plain old and shabby, I do agree that some rooms might be betters than others it was our experience that wasnt very positive i think. Our room was the 606 we were happy because it had a small living room separated from the bedroom. The room seemed fairly clean but the bed was quite small and when i looked carefully the carpets were filthy. The first nite we were watching TV and this beetle came out from under the carpet, ok no prob we placed it outside the balcony ( yes we had a shared balcony but dont get too excited shabby furniture and dusty) Plus we noticed straight away that the shower hadnt enough pressure but we didnt complain But the last nite we had a prob with this strange sound coming from the pipes in the bathroom we asked if the staff could check. We came back that night and they told us that it should be ok. we went up our room and sure enough the noise was still there, i messed around with the valve near the shower and it turned out to be a prob with too much water pressure so we just turned out the pressure and managed to fall asleep without the noise. We couldnt wait to leave the place, it was just depressing coming back to the room. Breakfast typical, canned fruit, cheap croissants can be missed as the bar downstairs serves better coffee and same pastries. Porto is a lovely city, find another hotel to stay, plus this one is at the top of the Aleados, 2 min from Metro but not particularly practical. I would not reccomend this place to anyone. Unless its a group of people and you dont care where you sleep
Handy for Transport

Stayed 3 Nights. Upper floors of a commercial building. Close to an impressive Town Sq. Great location for Metro and Main Rail Station/s. It's a good and steep walk to River front area. Small Bar/Reception on G Floor amongst other businesses. Found staff very helpful/fresh breakfast, though poky eating area which spills out to corridor, along with someones toy collection. Bedroom over street noisy; basically it's seen better days, is a bit tatty and needs an overhall, suggest book only if price is right!
Can't wait to go back!

*Old world charm* is what our party of 4 thought when we saw our room at this residential hotel. Absolutely loved the cozy feel about it. Fantastic, helpful staff. Ideal location to get about on foot (in Porto we found that most everything was within walking distance). The breakfast (included) was more than ample and we never felt the need to stop into a little cafe in the morning, although we would have loved to. It is true that they will charge extra if you do laundry in your room, but they do offer a service for this which I felt was reasonably priced. American/British tv programs in english with portuguese subtitles which made it fun to try and "learn" the language. Will definitely return in the future!
Very expensive for what it offers

I found this « residencial » very pretentious and the management very unwelcoming. Have you ever heard of a Bed and Breakfast that charges half a night if you do a little laundry in your room? Well, I travel a lot and haven’t. The nice décor (furniture, hall and staircase) can’t make for a enjoyable stay. Try something else.
Great staff

Staff was exceptional! Helped to find a dentist on a Friday afternoon and accompanied us there. Followed up to see that all was ok. Rooms clean, modern, great location. Continental breakfast with a nice selection of cereal, rolls, some meat and cheese.
Great little place - we highly recommend staying here!

My partner and I stayed here in May for four nights and we loved it. The staff were very warm and welcoming. Our room was fabulous - we were upgraded to a suite, so we had a foyer, two rooms (one with two twin beds and one with a double) and a lovely bathroom complete with bidet. The rooms were cozy and warm, with lots of beautiful wood furniture and historic photos/prints of Porto. Our only complaint was the noise from the street - it's very loud! Fortunately we brought earplugs, so we were able to sleep okay. We only made it to breakfast once, but there was lots of choice of cereals, breads, yoghurt, etc. We had no reason to complain here. The hotel stairway is quite amazing - go to the top floor and look down, or if you get vertigo, go the bottom and look up. It's something else, and makes for some amazing photography. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants an authentic and comfortable place to stay in Porto.
Be careful of your room

I have now stayed at this residential three times, in doubles and by myself. There is enormous variation in the quality of rooms. It is good value if you choose correctly. Under no circumstances accept a room that is by the stairs. Insist in one that is through the firedoors. The noise from the spectacular stairway (don't look down) is horrendous. Check a number of rooms. The size varies enormously. Some are suites. As I was by myself last time, they wouldn't give me a very large room (I was willing to pay), but I still managed to double the size from the first one they showed me, for the same price. It was an excellent deal for 37 euros cash (more with credit card), great location (easy to walk everywhere), basic, but comfortable room. I will stay here again.

We decided to stay in this hotel, despite a previous reviewer mentioning toenails on the carpet!! Only because all of the other reviews at the time were pretty good and we liked the sound of the art deco surroundings. Well, yes there actually were toenails on the carpet in our room and the art-deco surroundings were pretty minimal really. Breakfast was not brilliant, compared to the other hotel we stayed in Porto (I think I saw the waitress picking her nose! although she was very sweet with it!!!). The room was huge but not very inviting. The roadwork noise was horrendous with stones being dumped up the road until 4am. Of course this is not the fault of the hotel and will probably be over by now! The reception staff are very nice and helpful.

Wonderful, charming hotel in downtown Porto.
Easy walking distance to river, shopping, train station. Clean & spacious rooms (no view, but that was fine). Excellent help at the front desk regarding sights, hints and other arrangements.
Highly recommended.
