Fab Hotel
We arrived at Santorini airport & decided to get a taxi ( much cheaper than booking transfers ), took about 10 / 15 mins to get to hotel. Small, but clean hotel, split into two sub hotels. We had booked half board & breakfast & evening meals were excellent, couldnt fault the food. Was served in a buffet style, but was always warm / hot. Bedrooms were clean & to a good standard. Booked a double room, but got a twin ( only grumble ). Maids come around every other day & bed linen was changed & all bins emptied, etc. Loved Santorini as a place & would def visit again & stay in this hotel. Fab !!
honeymoon shower horrror
Overall, the location of the hotel is fabulous, nothing like having your breakfast overlooking the beach. Kamari is beautiful, plenty choice with regards to bars and restaurants. We were disappointed with the Greek restaurants; plenty choice but as the expense of quality. We would highly recommend the Chinese restaurant, The Great Wall. Hooks bar is the place to be, fab music and warm welcome. The pool looked small and overcrowded so we used the pool next door at the Kamari Beach, far superior and very relaxing. Our room, although it had a fantastic view overlooking the beach, was very basic and the maintenance man felt like part of the family by the time we left. The toilet was leaking and took 3 attempts to be fixed, or should that be botched?? The shower was a joke as the shower head kept falling off and the lights fused on one occasion. We only went on one of the trips, the Sunset cruise and would highly recommend it; indeed, the food we had on board was one of the best meals of the holiday. Kamari is lush, not a lager lout or football top in sight, very much a place for adults and ideal for honeymoons.
OK Hotel, great location
The room was well furnished, clean (maid worked very hard) and nice view of pool. Beds and pillows comfortable. Pool area very clean. The staff were much friendlier than I had read about in previous reviews and any problems were immediately attended to. On the downside the bathroom was so small it was difficult to get into! And the restaurant was tucked away and on the first morning there were dead flies in some of the food. In fact there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. Kamari was excellent resort and this hotel is very well located right on the front by an abundance of bars and restaurants but the rooms are away from the noise. My daughter is very afraid of dogs and there were a few loose ones wandering around the resort. We had worried about aircraft noise as it was so near the airport but the planes come in over sea and there was no noise disturbance. Good, relaxed holiday.
My favourite hotel in Kamari
I have stayed in the Aphrodite Hotel 12 times in the last five years, never once have I experience anything but good service from the staff. Admittedly the food in the dining room could be better but that is usual with most hotels. Kamari is full of really nice restaurants. For the price the hotel offers the rooms are very nice, you get what you pay for. If you want to go upmarket then you must expect to pay the price. I know most of the staff there and they have never been anything but nice,as far as the cleanliness of the hotel I have never faulted it.
Bad Hotel, Great Location
My wife and I are in our mid-twenties and took our first Greek holiday this past summer looking for a relaxing getaway of good food, sunny beaches and romantic evenings. As we arrived at the hotel it looked pleasant enough, however once you went past the front step that is where it ended. The bellboy like character in the lobby grabbed my wife’s new beach bag that was looped around her luggage and proceeded to keep tugging on it despite her pleas to stop, until finally it broke. He then proceeded to tie the broken strap around the other one and suggest it was OK. We went to the front desk to check in and kindly explain what had just happened. Setting the tone for the rest of our hotel stay the front desk attendant basically replied with an unconcerned “what do you want me to do?” attitude. After getting nowhere we went to our room, where all hopes of romance died instantly. Our room as well as others in our building (there are four small buildings that comprise the Aphrodite) was outdated, musty, and well worn. The two single beds had horrible mattresses and thick wooden frames which meant you could not push them together without about 1 foot (30cm) of space between them. The blankets were gross and had holes in them from wear. The TV got about 5 channels, mostly grainy, and all but one Greek (fair enough, we are IN Greece!). Point is it’s basically worthless to you as a tourist. The shower/bath had the piece that holds up the shower head broken so you were forced to hold the shower head at all times, as well as the cable to the shower head simply fell-off a couple of times, spraying water everywhere. The bath towels which were provided daily always smelled musty and sour and consequently we felt little cleaner after a shower than when we began. The room was on the first floor next to the pool and the patio doors were broken and could not be effectively locked, moreover one door had a broken top hinge which meant you could just push the door open from the frame. This did not make us feel especially comfortable given our desire to tour around the island and be on the beach all week. We went to the front desk who offered no solution, no maintenance, and no alternative room (they were booked). We tried to make the best of it, be optimists; perhaps the room was just the one sore spot to the trip? We checked out the restaurant that evening (we had half-board), which was buffet style. The wait staff was indeed helpful and friendly, however the food was unappetizing as most of it was cold. Had it been properly heated, we think it would have been at least decent. The restaurant itself was brightly illuminated and felt like a cafeteria. All it would take is to turn off the lights, put in a few candles, heat up the food, and the entire atmosphere would change. Disappointed by the evening dining, we actually managed to suggest and arrange that a simple “lunch pack” be arranged for us in place of our dinner. Again, the front desk was no help here in suggesting or cooperating. The pool area was nice enough, but small for the size of the hotel. We took a dip once or twice just to cool off, but the beach was our main playground. One nice thing the hotel did during our stay was allow guests who had checked out to use an unoccupied room to shower off from the beach before taking their flights home. The room was much nicer than the room we had, however not outstanding by any measure. The room had only one clean towel and had broken glass all over the floor from the previous occupants. We let the front desk know so that no one would hurt themselves. The front desk replied that they didn’t have anyone available for another 5 hours to come clean it up. Don’t tell your guests when you are blatantly understaffed, make some effort! We waited outside the lobby with our suitcases for our arranged transport as the time to our flight departure grew nearer. After 15 minutes and no ride we went in to the front desk to ask for assistance. As we started to explain to the girl at the front desk, she got a call on her personal mobile phone and answered. She proceeded to talk to her girlfriend about anything and everything for a few minutes, and then left the room to continue her conversation, completely ignoring us as time went by and we grew increasingly frustrated. Finally the other desk attendant came out to help us. This hotel, while very well placed is a horrible place to spend your time on a beautiful island. The rooms are crap, the staff is crap, the food is crap, but the location is awesome. In the area there are a ton of cute, quaint restaurants and cafés overlooking the sea with fantastic food. Kamari beach itself has plenty of people for people watching while leaving plenty of room to grab a lounge chair. The area is clean, with plenty of shops and bars for nightlife. Trips to Oia and Thira are definitely recommended; with the only two bus stops in the entire town of Kamari just a couple blocks away from the hotel. For a relaxing evening Kamari is all you need. We highly recommend the Italian restaurant on beachfront and to the right of the hotel (if you are facing the water). It is a couple doors down and they make their pasta fresh everyday. The waiters and waitresses were great, even giving us free cognac and sipping with us. The food was so outstanding we went twice in one week. We would definitely recommend Santorini to other travelers, just stay in a different hotel (be aware that we noticed many of the package hotel deals are next to the airport outside of town and not within walking distance of ANY beaches or attractions).
Venus aphrodite
A clean well run Hotel in a part of Kamari that allows you close access to the beach and some of the towns attractions and bus stops. Although the Hotel looks small from the entrance, it is actually part of a larger hotel complex with a different name that shares the pool. This is probably some sort of marketing ploy....but I can't work out why. The rooms were clean and well appointed...no Sky News or English speaking telivison at all so don't expect to keep up with the current happenings. The room I was in was air conditioned and coped well with the heat on the island. THe bathrooms a bit small, baths tiny and some of the bigger residednts struggled to sit down in the bath tself. If you like a shower you will cope. The food was about average for half board with a canteen in the hotel, there is also a resteraunt for the public at street level which can offer discounts if you don't fancy the usual half board fare.
close to beach
the room was not in the best shape asked for a nice room with sea views received a room overlooking paddling pool, staff rushed us thru at reception without telling us all info we needed to know. our room had air con but that was a further 6 euros, there was a ceiling fan in the room that kept us awake the first night and on further inspection i noticed this was due to loose blades after fixing these the fan was lovely. the pool was excelent except those people who put ther towels out at 6am and then went to town and returned at 1pm so they had a spot by the pool. It was very close to the beach which was good
My review Of The Venus Aphroditi
Hotel only 2*. Restaurant terrible food in evening. Loads of people opted out to eat in town. Breakfast ok. Shower room a joke and dangerous with strange high walled baths, Shower curtain held up with fishing line. Rusted fitments. Porters no help to room. Lift not working. Manager did not appear to be bothered when complaints. Night porter could not understand English.Very disapointed. Air conditioning great. Very small balcony. No drinks available at night by pool bar. Car hire at rear of hotel - Brill only 30 euros for a day incl a/c in car. The island is boring. Red Beach is a joke. Drinks along the front expensive, We got better deals just off the front. Altogether I think Santorini is over rated. I prefer Kos, Corfu, Rhodes, Silivi, Kardemena, Skiathos- favourite.
Loved the Afroditi - Venus Hotel in Kamary beach
The Afroditi Venus hotel in Kamari beach, Santorini was excellent. It really exceeded our expectations. The food was also very good, but it can get a bit boring if you are going to eat in the same restaurant for 14 nights. The location of the hotel is also great; it is on the beach and nearby there are plenty of restaurants to choose from and the bus stop to go to the capital Fira is just round the corner. The staff was very friendly with our one year old toddler, we felt that all of us were very well looked after. Although they don't offer any kids clubs, they have a very clean children's swimming pool and a play house to keep them entertained. The rooms are OK and some have air conditioned, which is a must if you go in the summer. Santorini really is a beautiful island. In overall, it is a place we would certainly visit again.
Brill
Had a brilliant time in Santorini and the hotel was ideal. Food in the hotel not that good but the restaurant outside the hotel was brill. Friendly staff. Our room was quite small but clean and the balcony was spacious with sea view. Definitely recommend Santorini and Aphroditi Venus hotel.
