Mill House Hotel reviews

Aug 2010, Citygirl

I recently stayed at the Mill House Hotel with my best friend for a weekend away. When I arrived I was checked in very efficiently by the friendly reception staff. We loved our accommodation. We enjoyed exploring the area, having never been to the cotswolds, the cute little... more

Festive Cheer against the odds!
After struggling to find any space for my husband and myself to celebrate the new year. We happened upon the Mill house. We had read various reviews and then hoped for the best! However from our arrival onwards at the hotel, the staff were continually receptive in the most adverse conditions. (A seventeen hour power cut over the new year celebrations!) All of the hotel team remained cheerful, helpful and entertaining. We will definately be returning to the hotel in the good weather so that we can take full advantage of the... more
Exceptional!
Read the reviews and got a bit nervous - would we get a nice room? From start to finish our stay was exceptional! I could not fault the staff or the facilities. We were greeted by a very smart friendly young man who was very knowledgable about the area. He left us in no doubt that he enjoyed meeting people and helping them when he could. The room was traditionally decorated (could be translated as dated) but warm clean and comfortable. What else could you want. Dinner was delightful served by well presented thoughtful staff who... more
Fabulous !
I was more than a little concerned about visiting The Mill House hotel, having read some poor reviews but I am so thankful that we did continue with our visit and not cancel and go elsewhere. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and the staff, food, and attentiveness of the staff are marvellous. We stayed in a superior room which was spacious and very very comfortable. The food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. All in all a wonderful weekend !!!
Great, apart from the beds
Stayed at the Mill House Hotel in Kingham for one night. On the whole it was lovely, lovely gardens, very friendly staff, fantastic restaurant (though it could do with some more veggie options) and in a beautiful location. My only complaint would be that twin beds pushed up together with a blanket over them does not constitute as a double bed. We did get a great deal, but next time I'll double check on whether a double means a double bed. All in all, a lovely spot.
Nice Place pity about the beds
We fancies a nice romantic weekend in the Cotswolds. I rang to book two nights two weeks before. On arrival I was told they had no record! However they could locate us in a Mid Tarrif room (as requested). Room was well past its best and if this was mid tarrif I hate to think what the low tarrif room was!! However determined to enjoy ourselves we went to dinner. The restaurant was good, the menu exciting, food wad good and service very attentive. Things were looking up! However then it was time for bed. The beds (two twins... more
peaceful and relaxing
My Husband and i have just had a short break in the Cotswolds. After a hectic couple of months arranging our daughters 21st birthday celebrations it was just what we both needed. We were greeted by a lovely cheerful receptionist who gave us some idea of things to do during our stay. We had a beautiful view of the hotel grounds from our room.Dinner was excellent and the restaurant staff were both pleasant and helpful. There was no music in the restaurant which i found a little strange but it certainly didn't spoil our meal.Thank you Mill... more
Great base for a Cotswolds break
I was a little concerned heading to the Mill House having read previous reviews. Now I'm back, none of them reflected my experience of a friendly hotel in a lovely setting. The worse that can be said about the hotel is that it is a little old fashioned, but it is very in-keeping with its surroundings. The Cotswolds is a glorious part of the world, but hardly at the cutting edge of fashion. We stayed in a mid tariff room that was big enough, clean, and very comfortable. Perfectly acceptable for the money, particularly at off-season... more
Very disappointed
We knew we had booked into the wrong place when we arrived at 13:55 to be told that the kitchens close at 14:00 so we couldn't have any lunch. Next they tried to palm us off with a standard room claiming it was the superior one we had paid for. There was a all of 6 inches around the bed and the TV would have fitted in my wallet. We complained and after 2 goes got to change rooms. This made us a little behind schedule so I called down to say we would be at dinner by 20:00 instead of 19:30. I was told that this was not acceptable as... more
Fantastic!
I have just returned from a perfect stay at The Mill House Hotel. The friendly staff obviously enjoy their work and it showed. The receptionist on each shift was chirpy, knowledgable and easy to talk too - never too busy to help. The food each evening was delightful and although unchanged nightly was updated with a small additional menu each evening which more than catered for my fussy taste. The room had a very pleasant outlook over the grounds and was traditionally decorated and furnished in addition to this it was spotlessly... more
What a disappointment!
Having had a thoughly enjoyable stay at this hotel a few years ago a second visit turned out to be a great disappointment. My first visit was virtually perfect: my second was anything but. 1) Our room was very poor indeed: an extra large (welcome) bed was too big for what should have been a single room. There was no space at all on one side for a bedside table while the bedside table on the other side had to be "sideways-on" so one could not use it other than the top. 2) The (tatty) wooden bed-heads overlapped the light switches... more
