good base for SW England
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Swindon on the 2nd leg of our English vacation in August 2007. We wanted to visit attractions near Bath and Salisbury and it worked well for this. We paid $146.00 a night for 2 including breakfast. It was about 45 minutes to drive to Bath and a short drive to Avebury. This is a typical new modern chain hotel so it's not that remarkable but we had a good experience here. The front desk was very helpful getting us directions to our next location and generally quite friendly and... more
Smooth and Efficient
The Hotel certainly was good. Rooms clean and spacious, nothing to complain about, except that the advertised "newly installed air conditioning" wasn't functioning yet! So much for the large banner on the facade! Breakfast is substantial, with good choice of cereals, milk, fresh bread... the works. Restaurant is good and reasonably priced.
A Testament To Mediocrity
We started off on the wrong foot here when we went to check in and the clerk tried to charge us...again. He told me, in front of everyone, that my card had been declined, which was odd considering that we had booked through Orbitz four months prior. He then told me that Orbitz's credit had bounced, which obviously was untrue. He couldn't have been more rude if he had tried and after a half an hour he grudgingly and suspiciously gave us our room. What a pain that was. To top it off, they kept a $200 hold on one of my credit cards for 5... more
Excellent hotel
Quiet is paramount for me. The hotel was QUIET. And very, very clean. The breakfast in the morning was better than average, too. The hotel is near the roads to the nearby Wiltshire sites: Avebury, Corsham Court, Lacock, etc. The room rate was very, very reasonable.
Good value
Stayed here before/after a works Christmas party last year and it provided everything we needed! V clean, modern, secure-ish car park and even a half-decent buffet breakfast. For the money it was excellent value. Nice bar area too, handy for pre/post event drinks. It seemed to be staying open as long as people were in it - I didn't stay up after 2.30am to test this though!!
Location, location, location!
Totally unremarkable hotel. Neither appalling nor inspiring in any way. Wholly indifferent service, bland (though fairly spacious and clean) rooms, ample parking, Pros: The location near J16 of the M4 was ideal for our outings to Avebury, Oxford, Bath, Chippenham and, even, Weston-Super-Mare. (Bristol and Salisbury/Stonehenge are also well within the catchment area and Poole and Cardiff are not too far either.) The breakfast is 'Continental' in a pretty English kind of way. (Not too many breakfasts on the Continent include Marmite!) But... more
Clean, spacious and very comfortable
Advantages: Spotlessly clean, nice modern decor throughout, extremely comfortable bed, well equipped and spacious rooms, secure free car park, friendly staff. Overall we'd recommend this hotel and would stay there again. However, the slight disadvantages were: 1. Breakfast is only continental, in other words there's no hot food. 2. Bar prices are extortionate - £3.30 for a pint of lager. 3. Our room was very large and had only one electric electric heater which wasn't powerful enough to heat the room and to make matters... more
Clean, modern hotel
We stayed at this hotel for one night and were pleased to find the room to be spacious, clean and well equiped with tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, TV (plasma screen) and a clean and modern bathroom. The decor was simple and elegant. The staff were friendly, breakfast was good, the reception/breakfast area clean and tidy with a TV providing 24 hr news. Down side: no car parking, the entrance to the hotel is taken from a quite side street and in the dark this can feel a little unsafe.
Good, friendly hotel!
GOOD POINTS: Friendly staff, comfortable bed, clean and modern rooms, television in foyer, can order in takeaways and eat in foyer or rooms (as no restaurant), has flannels (a rarity, I've found), got a pool table - yay! BAD POINTS: Ummm, had to think hard and the only things I can come up with is that there was no bath (just a shower) and there's no restaurant.
Lovely Hotel
Spent a lovely night here. The room was spacious and delightfully clean The bathroom was bright and lovely. Dinner was ok, the staff very accommodatiing. Breakfast was good too. Will definitely stay here again.
