Homewood Park Hotel

Had a great stay at Homewood Park. Really relaxed country house with stunning gardens. Staff ultra-attentive and friendly. We were even upgraded to a suite, which was huge and really lovely. Other reviews state that the decor is rather tired, but in my opinion this is absolutely outweighed by the unstuffy ambience of the hotel. It's the kind of place that you can curl up on the sofa with the papers and feel as relaxed as if you were in your own home. We are local to the Homewood Park and in the past have stayed occasionally to avoid driving home after dinner - sometimes we have extended the stay to two or three nights. It used to be very good with attentive resident owners but began to go down hill three or so years ago and after a couple of bad experiences we decided to give it a miss. My husband and I booked a two night stay over the bank holiday weekend in a superior room at Homewood Park. We arrived at a beautiful country house - a few miles outside Bath just off a main 'A' road. Unfortunately, however, the interior of the house did not match our expectations. The decor was tired, carpets dirty (we felt needed replacing) and chewed dog toys were strewn along public hallways (belonging to the in-house dog). I have just returned from spending a couple of nights with my husband at this lovely hotel. And in every sense it came accross as perfect and exactly what we wanted. Driving into the ground of this beautiful home I instantly relaxed and just knew I was going to enjoy this short break. Having booked last minute we got a great deal, and even got a complimentary upgrade to a superior bedroom - this was lovely as we hadn't even asked for it! Attractive property, in beautiful gardens close to Bath. Tired superior room with the most uncomfortable bed with an old saggy mattress - furnishings somewhat old and worn, although nice view. Couple of pleasant sitting rooms. Tea tray not removed from corridor overnight, bar had run out of lager, restaurant food well cooked but rather rich old fashioned french style cooking (heavy) and lukewarm by the time it reached us. My husband & I stayed at Homewood Park for one night last week. We arrived in the dark after a cold, grey day to a lovely personal welcome by the manager. Our room was beautifully decorated, the bedside lamps had been turned on, and the radiators were beautifully warm! Despite being a Monday night, our dinner was exquisite, and we were served by friendly, knowlegeable waitresses. Afterwards we enjoyed coffee and chocolates in front of an open fire. Booked this hotel last minute and had a wonderful stay. The room was very comfortable and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Make sure you dine there, the food is excellent. We would certainly return.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at Homewood Park, and what a wonderful time we had. The hotel was clean and very friendly, and the grounds were lovely. Overall it was a real English retreat and I would recommend it to anyone, and would stay there again. The only thing we regret is not eating in the restaurant, as all the reviews from the guest book said it was wonderful. So next time we will be having a meal there!

We have just spent a fantastic weekend at Homewood Park with 14 other guests, to celebrate a landmark anniversary! I have to say, that having read the previous review I was a little nervous about the stay, particularly as we had family coming from far and wide. However, I had nothing to worry about!! We were extremely disappointed with our November 2003 stay. Management was clearly more concerned with the bottom line than the well being of their guests. For example, my wife left with a severe cold because management refused to keep the heater on between 10pm & 6am. They simply ignored our multiple requests. While the bathroom was impressive with a beautiful claw foot oversized tub, the shower was not in working order and management refused to turn on the hot water for the shower.
