This hotel is so cool. It is only a three star but it has a lovely feel to it. The food in the restaurant is divine, it is all proper comfort food like home made fish and chips, home made burgers and chunky fries! mmmmmmm The rooms are a little small but they are... more

Overpriced, rubbish
The rooms are overpriced and very shoddy. Wind was whistling in through window all night, and all the fittings looked like they had been put up in a hurry by an amateur. When had shower in the morning it was highly variable, ranging from just powerful enough to wash, to a slow dribble, and at one point stopped entirely. When we complained they said they had problems with their water pressure when lots of people were staying there. Can't be too hard to assume that most people staying in a hotel use the shower in the morning.
Nice Hotel
Good Location, Nice extras (Fridge, DVDs in room), Seperate cost for Breakfast (Why do so many hotels do this now??? - its like inflight meals etc!.
Clean Rooms, Polite Staff, Great Restaurant but noisy and Uncomfortable
After reading many reviews about this hotel on TripAdvisor we decided to give it a try as a stopover on the way down to S.Devon. Contrary to other opinions the bed in our room had to be the most uncomfortable that we have ever tried to sleep in. For those of us not used to traffic noise beware - the refuse truck visited at 6:00 a.m. and the hotel is situated next to a busy road with continuous traffic from very early morning - including heavy haulage vehicles trundling past. Sorry, but we would'nt stay again even though some would say this is good value for money. We'd prefer to at least have had some sleep for our £.
avoid if you enjoy space
we were allocated a very small room and the staff did nothing about it when i complained. suggest that if you do stay here you check very carefully on the size of your room when you book. if you don't you may end up tripping over yourself as i did. a shame.
Upmarket travel lodge - comfiest beds!
It was really reassuring to read the recent reviews for Corner House. We stayed there for the first time around when it had just opened (about 2 years ago) on our stopover trip to Cornwall on hols. We were at that time frequent Hatton Court visitors (a member of the group of hotels incuding Corner House) but they were booked up for our dates so we tried Corner House. It was really good! Rooms basic compared to what we are used to but nice little touches like fresh milk, fridge and a little flower in a vase! And I must add the comfiest hotel bed I have ever slept in! We knew Steve (restaurant) form Hatton Court and he recognised us which was really nice and told the manager who really looked after us and made us feel quite 'special!' The food was brilliant and we were advised that the Hatton Court chef (fantastic chef who I think has now left) had spent time with them getting the restaurant up and running - we could tell! Just checked out the recent reviews as we are planning to make another visit on our stopover to Cornwall in September and really pleased to read the consistency of reviews. Of course the family people would not rate it. Read the blurb on this hotel - it is an 'upmarket' travel lodge with an 'ace' restaurant! We are looking forward to our trip and will post a review on our return!
Fantastic little hotel
This hotel is a real jem. I travel frequently for business and it is refreshing to find a nice hotel that takes care of the details, rather than just doing what it thinks is expected of it. Rooms are tastefully decorated, with basic bathrooms......space is limited in some rooms but layout is carefully thought out. What impressed me most was the small touches, like real milk in the fridge to have with your tea - thank god, no silly plastic UHT milk!....complementary mineral water, DVD's to rent at reception. They also do a great DVD. Pizza and beer room service menu!! Staff were superb, friendly and really helpful. Restaurant was good, food a little overpriced for me, but good all the same. Would recommend it highly!
Perfect stopover for the west country
We stayed here on the way down to a wedding in Devon. Much better than most travel stopovers which are normally next to the motorway. Taunton is a perfect spot with very easy access to the M5. The Corner House is just on the edge of Taunton town centre (about 5 mins walk) which means shops and restaurants close by. The staff were very friendly and we were able to have a relaxing drink at the bar before going into town. There is a restaurant in the Hotel which seemed very popular with non-residents although we did not eat there ourselves. Rooms were clean and had all the usual facilities without frills. Breakfast was excellent with prompt friendly service. We will stay there again in the future prbably as a stopover when travelling down to Cornwall. The price compares very well with other travel stops.
Very good bargain hotel
I booked this hotel online (through an independent hotel search company) for the bargain price of £50 a night for the first night of our honeymoon in July. The room was very comfortable, a double with ensuite shower/bath. The decor was modern and the bathroom was very new looking and in fresh white. There was even a small fridge and dvd in the room, which was an unexpected bonus. Even though the room was small, it was perfectly formed and we were very pleased to start our honeymoon this way! It is very close to the town centre also and perfect for popping to the local tesco or shops. Perhaps we got a newer room but i think it had recently updated most of them anyway. We did not try their breakfasts or food but it all seemed reasonably priced.
Not Family Friendly Rooms
Advertised as family friendly, my family of 4 including (me, partner and two daughters aged 3 and 1 ) arrived at the hotel mid-afternoon. Unfortunately, the double room consisted of a double bed, next to a single bed, next to a cot. The only space left in the room was a 12 inch gap around the beds. This hotel clearly caters for business travellers and couples that do NOT have children. Be careful when booking to ask about the rooms. I was given the impression that is was a family room. IT WAS NOT. It is a moderately size double room with everything a family needs crammed in. It's cheap, but that was not what I was after. I wanted a family room. Be sure to ask. We moved out and found a family room after the first night.
Good spot
The Corner House is an excellent hotel - many of the people staying here seemed to have stayed before which says something! They have their own restaurant with an Italian flavoured menu. All rooms have widescreen TV with built in DVD player - you can rent films or bring your own! Well located just on the edge of town. Overall, good value for money in an expensive part of Somerset.
