Great location & smashing resort.
This was our 2nd trip back to this hotel & we were very happy, until 7/7/08 10 holiday makers rooms had money, travellers cheques, mobile phones & watch taken whilst the room we lock & people were out at the beach/pool.
The police were involved as were the travel companies, apologies & explinations were not forth comming & alot of valuable holiday time was lost messing out with crime numbers & reports for the insurance companies.
It did put a dampner on the rest of our stay & made us feel a little nervous.
Other that that the hotel & its staff were good.
Would we go back there? - yes we would have , but after the mystery thefts - I dont think we would or indded recommend that anyone else goes unless the hotel have inproved their security.

" We found this hotel very... "

We found this hotel very disappointing. We stayed in a ground floor room and were unable to leave the curtains open as people walking past could look straight in and we were unable to leave the balcony door open as the balcony had steps leading up to it - not at all secure. The rooms itself was not particular pleasant but did have a sea view.
On the first morning we went down to breakfast and were horrified to find all the food completely covered in flies. Not just one or two but thousands - complaints to the staff were ignored. This went on for about 10 days until the day before a wedding was due to be held and that night a miracle happened all the flies had disappeared the next day -not one fly to be seen on the food - they were all dead on the floor. It was like a black carpet. You can see who they value most it is not the tourists.
When food or cutlery ran out in the restaurant you had to ask for replacements.
The staff are very overworked - they need more staff - the receptionists seem to work in the restaurant and the bar.
I have been going to Lesbos for the last 16 years and this is the worst place I have stayed - it has not put me off the Island but I will not stay in this hotel again.

" I have just returned after a 2 week... "
Submitted By: Ms D Foster-deam
I have just returned after a 2 week stay in the Skala Kalloni II hotel in Skala Kalloni. We arrived 3 hours late after a flight delay to a very friendly welcome from the hotel staff.
The hotel rooms where a fair size with a fridge provided, which was invaluable in the 100 degree + heat! There was also TV in the room but no English channels where available although others did get UK news stations.
As I booked with first choice our air conditioning was provided free, which is an absolute must to provide relief from the heat. The rooms where very clean and the maid service excellent.....BUT...although the maid service was excellent, they did start cleaning at about 7.30am and the noise from them was unbelievable.
Moving furniture around rooms, talking, slamming doors etc starts to really irritate you when you are trying to sleep and it continues for hours every day!!!
The showers are of a good standard in the rooms and each room has a balcony with nice views. Although the rooms are air conditioned, the rest of the hotel is very very hot with very poor use of air conditioning. This is a problem at meals times in the hot weather. It is very uncomfortable to eat in.
The pool is fantastic. There is a large, deep, adult pool and a smaller children’s pool. The pool bar is good but not very well staffed so you do tend to spend time waiting to be served or for staff to arrive. There are plenty of sun beds and chairs available.
Poolside music is very much supermarket or lift music, which can drive you mad after a few days!
Food is a major problem with this hotel.....It is awful so would recommend bed and breakfast be the best choice. There are quite a lot of tavernas to choose from in the main square serving cheap, good quality food. There are no cash points in the resort which is a real pain.
I would strongly advise you take all cash as safety deposit boxes are available. They frown on travellers cheques and you will be hit hard with commission charges in the hotel.
Skala Kalloni itself is a very very quiet resort with a handful of tavernas serving similar food. There is a very relaxed approach to night life with background music only. The one disco is poor and quite empty so the atmosphere is not very good. We paid over £120 in taxis trying to find some nightlife but this is not the island to provide it.
The day time is lovely and relaxed but the night time was a bit painful and we found a number of people complaining that they were bored! If you enjoy bird watching then this is the resort to go to. The birds are fantastic to see.
If you like very very quiet evenings and minimal shopping facilities (3 MINI MARKETS) then this is for you. Most people who enjoyed this report where in their 60's or in groups.
I am in my early 40's and just wished it was a bit livelier. Overall, it enforced relaxation on me. I have a great tan and my liver is still intact due to all the early nights but I still enjoyed it. It just didn’t tick all my boxes.

Hotel : Clean, tidy but very dated and tired!Furniture old,but new mattresses on beds, however, no mattress protectors, which was a surprise.Showers efficient but usual problem with small bathrooms becoming a wet room after use.Staffing appears to remain a problem with very few members who appear to have to multi-task.Pool bar not staffed for majority of day.Staff polite and accommodating when I asked for a different room.Plenty of food avaialable at breakfast but not varied and cereal bland.
Pool: large, very deep.Plenty of sunbeds but never cleaned and felt grubby and dirty.Pool full of flies with no-one appearing to maintain it.Couldn't see a shower for use before bathing,as a result an'off puttting' skim of cream/oil found floating on surface of water.
Previous thefts(reported on other reviews)have inevitably paid off for the hotel as they charge 15 euros a week for safety deposit box, which is a little excessive I feel.
Overall, hotel in good location and nicely on periphery of resort.Enough tavernas and bars for 1 week stay.Would recommend Paradise, Argo and Fish taverna in the square.Excellent resort for chilling out and relaxing, but not for the lively,go-getting late revellers!
Advice: Long sandy beach with shallow waters.Selection of tavernas but food similar in them all.
Activities: Loved Argo bar/cafe,great hosts,nice atmosphere.Paradise taverna,food hot (rarity!)and tasty
