Horrific hotel - beware!
This is quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. We arrived late after booking through a website that we use all the time and have never had trouble with. When we arrived the lady at the front desk claimed she didn't receive our booking (even though we had a print out with the confirmation number etc). She then threw a fit because some mistake was made and they were "fully booked" and made us feel like we had done something wrong! I was so shocked with her rudeness - I have never experienced anything like it in the service... more
Disappointing service for a 5 star
I stayed at this hotel whilst on business. On the morning after arriving I called down to reception to ask to borrow an iron as there was not one in the room. I was told that it was not hotel practice to lend out irons and that I would have to put my items into the laundry (at a cost of over 15 Euros for one item ) and would recieve them back at the end of the day. I travel a lot and never have I been refused an iron. The hotel appeared to be doing this to make some extra money. This, coupled with the rude staff and... more
Altis - give it a go if you get it cheap
We got this place through the Tourist Info office in the city after arriving in town in the evening with nowhere to stay. They got us a rate of €120 which we were happy with. Its got some great features that we didnt use like pool and gym and restaurants. The room was fine apart from the hard bed. Large room which was good as we had to wash all of clothes and do a repack. Lisbon sucks for laundromats (there is only ONE self service place (about 10 mins walk from hotel). Good breakfasts included.
Convenient for the airport and business.
A little dated inside but clean tidy with friendly staff. Quick taxi drive from the airport and suited me for my business meetings. I am sure there are other hotels better located for the tourist areas. Gave me late check out for free which I appreciated and worth a mention
Perfectly good hotel for the price
We stayed here for a weekend in February and thought the hotel was fine - walkable into the centre of Lisbon (as long as you don't mind the hills), good breakfast, nice rooms - although the walls were a little thin and FC Porto were staying in the hotel whilst we were there, so were a little rowdy in the evenings... We booked through Expedia and got a good rate, so I'd definitely stay here again.
If you like to swim this is the palce for you
I selected this hotel because I like to swim everyday. Only the Four Seasons and the Lapa Palace which are considerably more expensive also have indoor pools. The pool is large enough to swim laps and was often empty. The hotel has an excellent location on a quiet street near the Avenida subway stop but away from the noisy Avenida Libertad. The problem with the hotel is that the service and breakfast are mediocre and not 5 star. The rooms though not shabby are rather ordinary. I got a great internet rate and so felt it was worth the price I... more
Not a five star hotel
I stayed at the Altis Hotel for easter weekend 2006. The hotel is in a central quiet location, about 1 km from the heart of lisbon. The problem with this hotel is that it is not even near to be a 5 star hotel as declared. The building is old, and so is the forniture and the rooms decorations and facilities. Hotel altis needs a big refurbishment. Apart from this, I found the staff friendly and helpful. The bathroom in the room is old but quite nice, with marble floors and door to separate the 2 sinks and thub from the toilet. To be fair also... more
Five-Star Altis with two-star service
First off, this hotel's customer service is very poor for a five-star hotel. I can't tell how many times I called the front desk or operator and the phone rang 6, 12, 15 times, with no one picking up. If you can believe this, there was NO consierge all weekend at the hotel. When I asked about train/bus information to Fatima, and inferred that I would like for them to call, they gave me a ph number and asked me to call. I don't know Portugese!!! Unbelievable. The pool is ok, but everything else in the fitness area is for a charge. The... more
