This hotel was exactly what we were looking for after a disaster in Torquay. We spent 2 nights in an executive room. It was clean and comfortable with lots of little extra touches. The swimming pool was super, and the dining facilities very good. We booked B&B, but took... more

Taunton is an ideal base to explore Exmore and this hotel is in an ideal location. The hotel is nicely decorated in a modern style. The room we stayed in was a good size, clean with good basic facilities. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome, staying... more

Room wasn't very good for the money we paid, as it was quite small. It was supposed to sleep 4. That is ok if you are a family with two very young children, but teenagers, forget it. Very cosy. Also the receptionists were not very helpful. We also had to ask for a few... more

Comfortable Night
Once again I needed a room at short notice for the West Country. Holiday Inn was the closest to where I needed to be (found via Trip Advisor) so I booked via the Holiday Inn website. Quick and simple. I arrived late and the member of staff on the front desk was a newbie and delightfully falling over herself to get things right, but got things wrong. But she tried to meet all my requests which was the most important thing. Room was clean and comfortable. Shower was like a waterfall – lovely. Lots of towels and lots of lights. The next morning I feel the breakfast shift was understaffed. A mob of Germans had descended very early (natch) and there were only a couple of girls on, but once again, they really were trying, but not getting it right. Food was adequate but a bit cold. The coffee was the best part. Check out was very quick and efficient, I got there just before the Teutonic horde and the girl on the desk this time knew her stuff. I would stay again as it did exactly what I wanted. I know some think the chain as very ‘sanitised’ but they do provide exactly what a traveller needs.
Enjoyable stay
We stayed at Express by Holiday Inn for a weekend break. We had previous experience of the chain when we stayed at Oxford earlier in the year and enjoyed that too. It is one of the few places that accomodate smokers as they have allocated bedrooms for them. The area was peaceful and relaxing and there was a Harvester right alongside which served great food. The room was clean and comfortable and had air conditioning. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were good and plentiful although not full English breakfast, but it was nice to get up and have something. The shower was great, hot and powerful and the beds were clean and comfortable. The only downside was that there was no dressing table with a mirror to do my make-up, so I had to sit on the floor in front of the big mirror. Also there is no electric socket by the big mirror to plug your own hairdryer in. The hairdryer that is provided is very weak unless you have it set on hot setting! The lighting is not very good either and I just feel that the room is more designed for men. A dressing table, plug socket and good lighting would make all the difference to us females. Other than that it was a great place to stay.
Ideal hotel with health club
Stayed at the holiday inn at taunton on a one nite stop over i work in taunton so this was ideal for me .I have been at he sister hotel which is a stones throw away which is the holiday inn express and must say for the same money the holiday inn is a better bet with better facilties ie pool gym etc which is all inclusive . The staff all helpfull polite and food again could not fault so top marks there on the whole a pleasent stay would use again if i had to so well done holiday inn as i have stayed at alot of your hotels and they are better than some of the hiltons ive stayed at .
Hot Fish and No Beer
Just returned from 3 days away staying 2 nights in the hotel. Firstly I would like to compliment all the staff, particularly in the restaurant, for their friendliness. Beyond that there were issues. I ordered Cajun spiced swordfish for dinner on the first evening, the spice was so hot it was inedible, like vindaloo fish! There was no taste to what was clearly a piece of fish, about which the word "fresh" had not been used in some considerable time. On the second evening we were warned that the restaurant would be busy because the hotel was full, the booking system and the staff obviously knew the hotel would be full, but obviously nobody had told the Bar Manager, as one after another the beer ran out, first the lager, then the Guiness and then the Caffreys. This is not what I would expect from a hotel charging £100 a night to stay. Were I a teacher marking homework, it would be "must do better" for the Holiday Inn, Taunton.
Fine for a stop-over
We stayed here for one night as a stop-over on our way to Devon. We booked online and got a very good deal including breakfast with the price comparing to that of other roadside lodgings. If we had paid the full rate for this hotel then I think we would have been a little dissapointed. The hotel itself is nestled just off the M5 which is perfect for people wanting a stop-over. Positives: - Breakfast was very good; full English, cold meat, fruits etc - The rooms were clean and had all everything you need (inc trouser press, iron, kettle, tv) - Ample parking - Check-in/check-out was very efficient - Sports being shown on large screen in the bar Negatives - Breakfast on the Sat morning was very busy and a little hectic - Bar prices were pricey (£3.40 for a guinness) - The hotel reception, bar area and restaurant is in need of modernisation as well as some other areas of the hotel Tip : For cheaper bar prices and food, take a walk over to the Harvester pub about 200 metres away. All in all, this hotel is fine for the purpose it serves. It certainly served our purpose, and if we could get those rates again at that price then we would use this hotel again (as a stop-over) as it was very comfortable.
Good Service
Situated on an industrial estate right next to the M5 did not sound a hopeful location; in fact it was better than we expected. The staff were very helpful, we couldn't hear any traffic noise from our room and the breakfast was the best we have had in a Holiday Inn, even though we didn't eat until 9.15am. In fact we made this comment to the lady in chargeand a few moments later, she came to our table with the young man who was the chef that morning and said it was good for him and his staff to hear they were appreciated. Being on the junction of roads that go North, South, East and West, also meant that it is good central location close to attractions such as Exmoor and Glastonbury, both within 30 minutes. Would we stay there again, you bet we would.
Good leisure facilities
My wife and I stayed a Saturday night on points and selected this hotel specifically because we wanted good leisure facilities. We were not dissapointed. The Spirit fitness centre is free to hotel guests, the pool is excellent with whirlpool and sauna. The gym is extensive and very well equiped and everything was very clean and nice. The hotel is a reasonable Holiday Inn and better than many I have stayed in, in this country, as they can be extremely variable. The rooms are not big but clean and nice and breakfast was excellent although expensive. There is an excellent pub within walking distance with outstanding food and so no need to eat in the hotel. The only downside was that the air conditioning was broken and it was hot to say the least. The rack rate is ridiculous and even discounted, the hotel is not cheap, and I would be reluctant to pay this for a normal stay when the leisure facilities might not be used so much.
OK - but dull and overpriced
This hotel is OK but begs the question what is the point of paying Holiday Inn prices compared to an Express or Travel Inn? It is a charmless motel and let’s face it most guests don’t have time for the pool. Check in was fine and they have luggage trolleys to help. Mine and my colleague’s rooms had sofa beds made up in them – why when we were single business travellers! They were quite quick at taking them down when asked. The rooms are ok – but bland and dated, at least they have a duvet. Breakfast was fine, not great. One nice touch – board games in the lobby which were fun. Overall, this place is Ok but rather overpriced – for the money it needs to offer more panache.
Convenient modern hotel
Stayed here at one-night Autumn break rate. Executive room with breakfast was good value but I would certainly not pay the extortionate rack rate, whether on business or leisure! Quiet, well furnished room with compact modern bathroom. Lounge bar did good food and restaurant service at breakfast was friendly and efficient. Very convenient for M5 motorway without traffic noise.
standard business hotel no frills
I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past five years. The rooms are compact and you get the same sized room whether you stay in an executive or a standard room, the bathrooms are small, and most I have stayed in have been clean. Fridges are only available in the executive rooms. The hotel has absolutely no atmosphere at all; lounge area furniture is uncomfortable and adds to the lack of atmosphere. Food in the restaurant is over priced and not great, the bar food is good, the service at the bar can be hit and miss depending who is on duty. The breakfast is a delight and is certainly a reason why I keep going back to this hotel, although very expensive. It is right next to the motorway, you can’t get lost finding it, within walking distance there is a bar with good food and half the price you would pay at the hotel for somewhat mundane food. The pool area is fine and clean.
