Travelodge Hotel Reviews

This hotel wasn't situated in an ideal situation, being just outside Portsmouth city centre, but was fine for the one night we stayed there. The room was basic, but clean and well looked after. In the morning, we bought two of their breakfast bags. They were quite... more

You get what you pay for!
from sbu 79
We stayed at this hotel to attend a family function and managed to get a great rate (£26 - room only for a night) directly with the hotel. The rooms are basic but a decent size, with everything you could require for an overnight stay. That said, watch out for the shower over the bath as it floods the bathroom! There is plenty of on site parking at no cost, staff are friendly and it's not too far from central Portsmouth. There is a good security system in place should you arrive back to the hotel in the early hours. Over all a pleasant stay for a pleasant price.
Not Very Good
from RoyGerstner
In serious need of general maintenance. A fairly new travelodge but in neglect. Take some tools with you. Furnishing need replacing. Very noisy, with sirens and alarms from nearby hospital all night long. Food in adjacent pub/restaurant sort of ok if desperate. The Chinese take-away across the road is a much better bet.
It's a Travelodge
from newcliffe
Having read previous reviews earlier on the day we were staying we were prepared to either walk away and find somewhere else or at best rough it for one night. Not a bit of it. Reception was friendly and efficient, the building generally clean, the lift worked and the room spacious and clean. The restaurant area of the pub could be entered diredtly from Reception, was away from the "public bar" area and was clean. Service was friendly and the food adequate. Overall we were satisfied with our stay on the basis that it is a travelodge and better than others we've used recently. As noted by other reviewers, it's ideal for the ferry terminal, perhaps not quite so for a holiday base.

The place isn't that bad but it doesn't rise above fair in any area. The location is not convenient for the Historic Dockyard or Gunwharf Quays if you don't have a car (forget about walking and the buses are very confusing) and the area around the Travelodge is pretty run-down and ugly. The locals are very chavy and rough looking, I wouldn't like to venture out into the surrounding area after dark. Portsmouth is a pretty run-down town in my opinion, well known for its down-market locals. Everyone seems to smoke, to wear the 'Burberry check' and baseball caps. Only the Historic Dockyard and Gunwharf Quays redeems Portsmouth. My trip to this Travelodge was disturbed by the 3am arrival of a group of drunk girls in the room next to mine who decided to scream, shout, bang doors & play loud music for the next hour. The hotel can't really help that but I think they were typical of some of the guests staying there. The rooms look worn. It is located a short distance from the ferry port and I would only consider staying there again if I had to catch a early morning ferry.
Not a Happy Camper
from Possomchops
I stayed for 6 nights at this establishment in early Sept. and there were quite a few things I wasn't happy about, but the main points were the heat and stuffiness of my room, also smelt of smoke (smoking is allowed). The corridor was even hotter and smokier. The window in my room barely opened a few inches so not much chance of a breeze and if it had opened wider there was the traffic noise which was considerable for most of the day & evening. A fan should have been supplied with my room, but had to be hired from reception for seven pounds (5 pounds refundable on return). There was no fridge in the room, so couldn't have any drinks kept cold. Every hotel I've ever stayed in has had a fridge. But not being able to receive phone calls in my room. from my husband in Australia, as there wasn't a switchboard really annoyed me. The wellbeing and consideration of hotel guests is low on the list of the hotel's priorities it seems. So beware if you are a traveller from overseas. The only good thing about the hotel would be the close proximity to the continental ferry port.
Breakfast in a bag???
from Trail
If you have to stay here make sure you make arrangements for breakfast as the hotel does not offer a traditional or continental breakfast any longer. When I checked at reception I was told that I could order a breakfast for £4.00 which would be left outside my room betwen 5.00am - 7.00am the following morning, after that time I could collect from reception. This duly arrived in a paper bag and consisted of a banana, a coissant, a pack of cornflakes and an empty paper coffee cup! Not great unless you want a very quick breakfast. The room I had was on the road side of the hotel and even with the double glazed window fully closed it was still noisy. My recommendation, stay at the Inn Lodge, better bars, kids facilities, and a decent breakfast, and cheaper aswell.
Excellent value but not a central location
from Loriners
Very good value. Our room was spacious and comfortable and spotlessly clean with a very good sized bathroom. The rooms were very hot when we visited in early August and the windows open only a couple of inches. The biggest disadvantage we found was it was noisy in the mornings from 6am onwards. Many guests depart very early to catch the cross channel ferries. The garbage men also emptied what seemed like dozens of bins right under our bedroom window one morning at 6.30am. It can be tricky to find this hotel if you're driving. Portsmouth has quite an intricate one way system and the traffic can be very busy. It is quite a walk from the hotel to the Historic Dockyard or Gunwharf Quays and I wouldn't recommend it after dark (I was on a short break with my teenage daughter). There's a bus stop just outside the hotel and all the major attractions are just a 10 minute ride. I'd recommend you taxi back (£5 fare). Overall. very good value but not central.
Good value

Stayed here for one night on business and agree with the review that states it does exactly what it says on the tin! Large comfortable rooms with adequate facilities. Quiet yet central location. Not luxury but for a Travelodge is certainly isn't bad!
Spacious and comfortable
from A TripAdvisor Member
I've stayed in this hotel many times - initially on business trips, then later for short breaks. It's clean, spacious, quiet, and the beds are firm. The pub next door is friendly, and the food is Good Pub Fare. A hotel that does exactly what it says on the tin.
