Solent Hotel and Spa

We stayed at the Solent Hotel after our company staff dinner & dance recently. The Solent Hotel is in fact a reasonably pleasant hotel situated halfway between Southampton & Portsmouth. Very easy access from the M27. I cannot quite decide which category to place it in mentaly. If we look on it as a corporate hotel for business use I would say it is very good indeed. We stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night prior to Goodwood trip. The room was fantastic, large with seperate sitting area, fantastic Flat screen TV, beautiful comfortable bed. We ate in the restaurant and the food was great. Breakfast the next morning was the best we have eaten in any Hotel. We are going to try their hotel in Bristol at the end of our week in Cornwall in August. We hope it is as good as this one.

We stayed at the Solent Hotel for 2 nights as a birthday treat for me from my partner. I have never stayed in a hotel where without exeption, all the staff were friendly and helpful especially in the restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious and the service very good. The room was lovely and I liked the fact that as well as the usual tea and coffee, there was hot chocolate and Earl Grey tea too and REAL milk in the fridge, not the usual UHT! Hotel was very expensive for what it is. The restaurant menu was very limited for choice and very expensive. Would have been better if they changed the menu or added more variety. Service was poor. We were kept waiting over 15 minutes for a table at breakfast even though it was half empty. Checkout was very slow. We had to stand in a queue for 30mins. My girlfriend and I just returned from a 2 night weekend break. We stayed on the Sat/Sun nights. This hotel was exactly what we were looking for and we researched lots of them!! We will definitely consider another trip here and would recommend to anyone. Its ideal if you want to visit the South Coast around Portsmouth and Southampton, the New Forest or go shopping at Gunwharf Keys!! We paid £300 for the two nights with full use of the spa area. This hotel is moslty aimed at the business traveller and its standard rates are rather high. However, they have good offers over the weekend when I stayed with a 3 nights for 2 promotion including breakfast. They also had a good single occupancy rate so that my stay worked out at about £65/night including breakfast. Our Company held an annual Dinner and Dance here in February, . The prices for all drinks are expensive, and the food nouvelle cusine is very bland and of poor quality

We stayed for a Saturday night, enjoying a January dinner bed + breakfast special with friends. These inclusive deals with Shire Hotels are always good, as they allow unrestricted choice from the a la carte menu (which is quite expensive otherwise). The hotel is attractively decorated and furnished, and there were log fires burning in the reception and bar areas. The hotel is easy to find, with ample onsite parking. The reception area is welcoming and the front desk staff that we encountered were all very friendly. Although the hotel looks like a complete newbuild, some attention has been paid to the decor of the common parts to lend considerable character to them, even if the restaurant contains a mish-mash of different and unconnected architectural references. Nice hotel, good facilities but really pricey when compared with other similar hotels in area. Would look elsewhere for good service levels at less painful rate.
