good value
just returned from 2 day break at forest park hotel, despite previous reviews, we had a wonderfull time, room was a little dated but the location and staff certainly made up for this, we would certainly have no hesitation about going back
Disappointing - shabby hotel.
What a disappointment! We booked a Premier room through Superbreaks for £160 including breakfast and asked for a refurbished room. The hotel is in a great location on the edge of the forest and only about 5-10 mins from the village centre on foot. But what could be a lovely hotel has just been neglected. We checked into room 26, as we entered the room we found two grubby looking playpens presumably for the previous guests and a generally run-down room. The curtains were half hanging off the rail, the wallpaper was water-stained... more
2 star rooms. 5 star grounds
We booked 2 premier rooms with my parents for 4 nights in August. My parents room was at the top, it was clean tidy, quiet and overlooked the pool. It had pink flowered wallpaper that sent your eyes into overdrive. Coupled with a pink duvet, was very pink! Our room 22, is above the reception and everyone has to walk past your room to get upstairs! The stairs were creaky and obviously with people coming in late in high spirits children screaming all have to be contended with. Not quiet at all. I specifically asked for non... more
Disappointed!
We stayed at the Forest Park Hotel for 3 nights in August. We paid for a Premier Room and was very disappointed at the standard of the room. The carpets were shabby and the curtains were falling off the hooks. We stayed in room 22 which overlooks the pool and with the room being on the 1st floor, guests in the pool and garden can see right into the room. There were no net curtains so we had to have the curtains drawn and the lights on whenever we were in the room during the day. Our most awful experience had to be in the bathroom. The... more
Lovely forest retreat
Upon arrival we realised that the hotel was much closer to the village than we realised, so that was a pleasant surprise. The hotel itself had a country, rustic feel about it. I can imagine in the winter it being a delight. Our room was wonderful. We paid the extra and booked a premier room and it was certainly well worth it - would recommend. The gardens were fantastic, the swimming pool was, well, a swimming pool. It looked like it needed a bit of a repaint but the water looked clean enough. Breakfast was a total disaster on the... more
romantic break
what a lovely hotel. We have stayed at forest park twice now. Once for our engagement several years ago and once for a summer weekend away in july 05. We always have the four poster room that overlooks the pool and promise anyone they will not be dissappointed. picked the hottest weekend of the year and chilled out around the pool most of the time drinking spritzers! heaven. great service. superb food, charming and romantic surroundings. impressive foyer with log fires etc. room spotless, beautiful white cotton sheets. Wonderful corner... more
Nice location, horrible hotel
I stayed at the sister hotel - Burley Manor - for one night, then was referred to the Forest Park. Despite asking for a non-smoking room, we were given one with ash trays and, being so close to the bar, filled up with smoke fumes from around 11pm. The bathroom tiles were falling off the walls, the TV took five minutes to 'warm-up' and switch on, and the hotel bar stayed open - with noisy guests - until 1.30am. When we complained to the manager we were told "no one else has complained" and he insisted that we hadn't requested a non-smoking... more
