nice place shame about the manager
from blackbeard37

Half and half
from hiki
We went to this hotel in a group of some people. The rooms are alright. There was a fan in each room to help against the heat. An open window would have been great at night, but the balcony outside the room runs right around the hotel rooms, and we didn't feel safe enough to do so. That was probably unnecessary, but then you never know. Help with the luggage would have been great, as some of us were older and had problems carrying the luggage up and down some stairs. But nobody really knew what to do about this in the hotel, so we...

Nice place, pity about the service
from Cats_123
We booked as part of a golf break...reception were very friendly and helpful, room was very nicely decorated in African style.....when it came to the restuarant, however, we were disappointed. There was a wedding party on and they were clearly under-resourced...but that doesn't account for the lack of basic courtesy. We were left standing at the restaurant reception, and ignored sveral times. Having been sat at our table there was no offer of drinks and only then when we complained. Food was well cooked and presented. Overall a nice...

comfortable themed resort hotel
from leech_family
stayed at Marwell Hotel (opposite zoo entrance) for long weekend with the family. This hotel popular with wedding parties also weekend breakers and I guess corporates during the week. Hotel has been tastefully updated since Iast I stayed, it was 3* now 3-4 * in my view (not sure what the official rating is). Hotel does break packages including zoo entrance and kids under 12 go free for food on certain deals. Zoo is good fun and manageable size - you can see all in 2-3 hours. Hotel features a nice pool / jacuzzi / sauna. Overall we...

Not Bad!
from Lorse
A lovely setting and nice places to eat and drink. Staff were very friendly. The one thing that put me off was that the rooms all have balconies but they are communal balconies shared with everyone else on your floor with steps going down to the ground (balconies and steps need a good lick of paint aswell). As a result of this, we didnt want to leave the patio door open and it was a very hot night. No air conditioning or other windows so we just had an uncomforable evening. Dont stay there when its hot!! Other than that a nice...

Really pleased
from A TripAdvisor Member
After reading reviews about the Marwell rooms - I was pleasantly surprised when we visited in Feb half term with my husband and 2 children. Family rooms were clean and there was ample space for us. Staff were very honest when asked about the rooms when I booked, the family rooms had not been refurbished but had been re-pointed in the bathrooms. We stayed on bed/breakfast/dinner rate (Zoofari) which included family tickets to the Zoo and Intech. Food was lovely in the evening and breakfast was a feast, everybody catered for.<br...

Really not very good
from The-Olly
I recently stayed here with my fiance after a friend's wedding. I will not be staying there again. The communal spaces are pretty good. Nice design, nice furniture and a friendly (if a little intimidating with all the drunk people in the bar) atmosphere. Our room however was not so good. For £100 I expect more than a (very large) bed, dresser and chair and the bathroom was a disgrace both in terms of size, appointment and cleanliness. In the morning (sunday) I had to leave at 7:50am. Breakfast is from 8am so I was too early. They...

Alls well at Marwell
from A TripAdvisor Member
Don't let the other reviews put you off going to this hotel. I have just got back from a weekend trip with my three kids and we had a great time. All refurbishment work is now complete and we had two double rooms with interconnecting doors. Both were very smart and have a pleasant outlook onto woodland. The food is OK but I would stay clear of tricky dishes - chicken/fish are fine but the red meat courses such as lamb were poor cuts. The standard of service was excellent. All the staff without exception were polite and very helpful.<br...

Marwell a Haven in Hampshire
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Marwell Hotel in September and could not fault it. I stayed in a standard room and although the bathroom decor is slightly dated I could not fault the clenliness or facilities available. If the standard rooms are kept to this standard I can't wait to see what the refurbished rooms will look like. The Hotel is designed with children in mind there are play areas, and toys which you would not find in many Hotels. I will definatly stay in the Marwell Hotel again and am looking foward to seeing more improvements in...

Could have been so good!
from alisonbel
Whilst looking for family break came up with this hotel, break included tickets to zoo so seemed quite good value. Hotel looked excellent on website, do not be fooled! When we arrived it looked good, public areas like safari lodge complete with jungle music! When our room was finally ready and we had walked though towels, sheets and breakfast trays in corridor; what a disappointment, not at all like pictures on website shabby is a word that springs to mind. Having a toddler and 5 yr old we were concerned that it had a fire door which...
