Great hotel, noisy location
Hotel Efes Inn is a nice hotel situation in a rather noisy area in Icmeler, the room was big, clean and had free air con, maid serivice was spot on, we had a variety of artfully arranged towels every day!! the hotel backs onto the beach and has its oen beach bar and reastaurent but there are loads to choose from along the way, the only down side was our fridge did not work and although we reported it twice it was never fixed. apart from that we had a great time, nice clean pool area and very helpful staff in general
What A NIce and Friendly Hotel the Efes Inn is.
We had a great time in Ichmeler. The resort was making last minute preparations ready for the new 2008 season. What a nice and friendly place it is. And so green and picturesque. As for the Hotel Efes Inn, it's clean and bright with an impressive chains of lights hanging from the roof. The room we were given was on the second floor and were pleased with it as we had read reports of the rooms being small. It was more than big enough, having a proper double bed and also a single bed in it. I heard that some rooms have three singles in them. There are some smaller rooms however and these seem to be in the corners of the different floors. It could be that the rooms on the top floor are smaller due to the shape of that floor, but I'm not sure. All rooms have been fitted with new individual air conditioning units (as opposed to the central ducted system), which will bring you some relief when temperatures are hot (or cooler). The rooms and floors have been fitted out with a nice light brown carpet. There's a fridge in the room stocked with drinks (minibar) but there's some room to put some of your own drinks in. Best channels on the TV was BBC Prime and you'll be able to be kept up to date with home news with Sky News. We were in room 207 and had a view overlooking the bay to Marmaris and canal to the right and I think rooms x05 - x09 on each floor have a similar views. These get the morning sun so are shaded in the afternoon. Breakfast is usual basic Turkish fair with boiled eggs (and given a treat of scrambled egg once a week), cereals, fruit juice, bread (toasting machine there), jams, honey, yogurt, cheese, sliced meat, tea coffee etc. All the staff were friendly and helpful. There are three themed special nights with entertainment (good - won't spoil it for you) ( in the beachside restaurant) : we went to the Tuesday cocktail party & Thursday BBQ night. If you have the three course set menu it is 20 Lira (£8) and well worth it- anyway you'll see the posters in the reception area. The food was as good as in any of the other restaurants. The security safes are opposite reception and are £1 per day. As we weren't being picked up to go to the airport until 7pm, we arranged a late check out (until 10pm) which was £10 (25 Lira) which I thought was reasonable. There's a half size snooker table for 10 Lira per hour and internet ( 1 computer only) is 5 Lira per hour. There's a really good bar over the road from the hotel entrance - The Havana Bar which I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit and that Leon and Zaza will look after you. Restaurants where we enjoyed a good meal include The Majestic, the Love Boat, the Chef and also Mario's (just up the road from the Efes Inn - turn left from the hotel entrance - my wife said she had the lightest lasagne she has ever tasted. Finally, a big hello from Ray & Christine, to all who stayed at the Efes Inn during the last week in April 2008.
nice hotel and good value for the money
Spent last week at the efes inn and I must say that it was great value for money. Food was cheap and of a reasonable quality, beer was the cheapest in tpwn about 3 lira(about £1.20) and the service, if not classic was entertaining and fun. Unfortunatley when we were there the hotel was full of elderly customers with only a few younger than me and im 52. The only down side was the whole hotel has a central atrium and it could get a bit noisy but apart from that it was a good week and the bar opposite called Havana ran by a guy called Zaza was also good fun. The staff there are all nice guys and they took my 2 teenagers clubbing into Marmaris. Definatley worth a visit/
Came for a short break, should have been longer
This was the first time in Turkey for both me and my partner, so we came open minded on a short break. A 5 day break was too short for this destination as the flight and fransfers eat into your holiday time. Any way we were glad we came. The scenery around the hotel is very pleasant. There are tree covered mountains to the front and sides, with the sheltered coast and beach to the back of the Hotel, a lovely view first thing on a sunny morning. The Efes Inn has a large open Reception with an open Atrium that allows a view of each floor. The room we stayed in had all basic facilities including its own aircon unit, (not used as it was early season) The room was very clean, with clean towels etc every day. The key fob on the room key ring operated the rooms power supply when pushed into a slot next to the light switch. This only allowed power to the room when occupied. This did not cause us any problems as it was not very hot weather ! ! The Restaurant was clean and during any meal time, the very helpful staff were at hand. There is a covered bar/grill at the back of the hotel, that allowed us to try the different food on the menu, which was very good. The service by the staff was excellent. They work very hard, are very helpful, and get invloved with the entertainment. The energy put into the dancing to Turkish and Western music was amazing, if you felt fit enough you could join in, The excursions offered from the hotel were a great way to experience some of what Turkey has to offer. The trip to Dalyan was great. The staff work hard to ensure you have a good holiday, we did and would like to return to the Efes Inn for a longer break.
A Great Place to Go
What a fabulous holiday I had. This place was brilliant, it was early October so not so hot as the peak months, just as well as I'm not into the too-hot; but was still only a t-shirt day and night. My transfers to and from Airport, about One and a Half hours was excellent 'customers@keytransfers.com' and only £29 both ways. I arrived at the Hotel and was quickly shown to my room, I was hungry and asked for some food - they told me the kitchen had closed, but they sent a waiter out to get some food from somewhere for me. This was just the start! Everything I asked for they provided with no issue any time of the day. When I was up late - I still got breakfast, I asked for a sunlounger on my balcony - it arrived quickly, I had a problem with a tour I booked - the receptionist was on the phone and got it sorted. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, I had such a great time; it was sad to have to leave. The location is ace, just over the road to the sea; the views from the mountains around the hotel brilliant anyone staying there must go on the Jeep Safari to get the views from the mountains surrounding Icmeler. See you there next October! I'll certainly be there.
Efes inn, not as good as the brochure....
We stayed at the Efes Inn for a week in mid september 2007. On arrival, the Hotel looked really nice from the outside, with a clean bright reception area. We arrived after three hour coach transfer from Dalaman at 8pm. The manager was good, and gave us keys immediately. We were then shown to room and third floor by staff. Lifts are three people max, so not good for big families. The room itself was at rear of hotel, overlooking pool and canal next to hotel, as well as stunning view over bays of Icmeler and Marmaris. This is where the problems began... The balcony although fairly big had no chairs to sit on, and there were none in the room to take outside. We ended up taking a broken plastic table and a pouffe from the room just to be able to sit outside. The bed was exceptionally clean and well made every day, but a double with only two pillows (and thin ones at that) wasn't what we were after. The whole rooms' electrics are operated by the keyring on your room keys. This means that basically nothing works in the room unless the fob is in the slot. This is a great idea in theory (ideal for the environment etc) but it also means that you cannot leave your phone to charge or portable games etc, as well as the mini bar fridge not working during the day. Nice to drink warm beer/water after a long day in the sun..... The bathroom was also immaculate, and I cannot fault the cleaners. They were really thorough every day. My main gripe was the centrally controlled air conditioning. There is a vent not much bigger than a standard envelope just above the door, and this appears to be just for show during the day. The room itself is stiflingly hot during the day, and it is almost unbearable in the early evening. We got to the stage where we were opening the door (40 degrees outside!!) just to cool the room down! They seem to switch the system on at night so you wake up in the middle of the night at about minus 40 degrees... We were also disappointed with the limited breakfast selection, as there wasn't a lot to choose from. Having said that, there are lots of local bars that do full english for only a couple of quid each. We did get the rep to ask for chairs/extra pillows etc, but whether they forgot or couldn't be bothered I don't know. Having said all of that, the hotel itself was OK if you don't plan to spend a lot of time there. It backs right onto the beach, and the restaurant on the beach serves cold beer til all hours. It's not too noisy, with excellent access to local shops/bars etc. The bus to Maramaris is 200yrds away, and you can easily walk to all the local hotspots. The staff are very friendly and despite some other reviews saying the restaurant manager was a bit funny if they didn't eat there, we never had any problems. Its a shame the hotel can't clear up these few gripes, because they could easily earn another star taking them to a four star hotel. The location is great, the staff are really helpful and overrall our holiday was fantastic. I would definetely stay there again IF they could make these few improvements. I highly recommend Icmeler as well, prices are good, hassle is minimal (tell the food outlets you've already eaten and they leave you alone) and access to Maramris is cheap (3.5 YTL, about £1.50 for both of us). The sea is crystal clear with fish that you can see, watersports are cheap and plentiful and the weather was hot (35-40 degress every day in middle of September). We took only Turkish Lira, but you can take pounds or euros, about 90% of shops/bars/locals quote in all three. I would definetely go back to Turkey, and recommend it to anyone. Thanks for reading my review!!
we want more
we had a fantastic two weeks in the efes inn room was basic but good all staff members were very friendly and helpful especially the restaurant staff. they could not do enough for us whether we were in the hotel, on the beach or in one case when we met in another bar. if you want a relaxed holiday try this one.
Fantastic Holiday
My partner and I spent 9 nights in the Hotel Efes Inn, Icemeler. Booked 2 weeks before for £150 each. Arrived 1:30 am, room not ready then moved to another room with no water - all issues resolved quickly. Only problems during stay. Hotel is clean, rooms spacious but basic. TV, fridge, double and single bed, bathroom. Get up early if you want hot water for shower - it's fine in the afternoon as it uses solar heating. Breakfast is very basic continental style. Food in hotel is excellent and cheaper than some bars, with the hotel guest discount of 10%. Staff are superb, although all the Turkish people are so friendly and bend over backwards to do anything for you. We personally recommend the Dream Three Bells bar ([--]) 1 minute from the hotel - Abik, Veysan and the boys make you feel like family and can't do enough. Good floor shows too. We preferred Icmeler to Maramaris, which is a 10 minute bus ride (60p) from pretty much outside the hotel. Taxis can work out expensive (£12-14). The beach is artificial, but although the sand is pretty crap, the water is lovely and about 5 yards from the shore once you've stepped over the small rocks it's a soft sandy bottom. Views are stunning. Turkish bath trip is a great experience and will set you back about £10. Most of the trips are very reasonably priced and although we didn't make it, the trip to Dalyan (mud bath, turtle beach, tombs, boat trip) for £12 was enthused about by many other guests. April is the start of the season so many bars were closed, but we enjoyed it due to the lack of kids and tourists. It wasn't crowded and so we received special treatment from everyone we met. The Irish Bar (no signs of any Irishness here) is fun for a night out as they have the cheesiest shows throughout the night (Freddy Mercury, Grease, Turkish Wedding, Full Monty) and absolutely crazy staff. Avoid the U2 bar - unfriendly and full of hassle. The market on Wednesdays is great, full of "genuine fakes" but you do get hassled a lot, as with the Bazaar in Marmaris. I'd recommend taking NOTHING out with you. On your first day, buy a suitcase and clothes from the bazaar. You could probably get your week's needs for about £50. Bad point of holiday: return trip. Delayed due to death on incoming plane, but it was very badly managed by Thomas Cook and we spent 7 hours in the cold waiting for coaches to a hotel where we stayed for an hour before returning. We'll be back, hopefully soon. I'm trying to save to get out there end of May!!!!
Clean, Comfortable and Friendly
Stayed as part of a family group in May 2006. Hotel is located on a quiet side street that runs parallel with the beach, so ideally located for everything you need without being too noisy. The hotel is entered via a splendid cool marble floored reception area with a central atrium. The rooms are positioned over 5 floors which overlook the central reception/lounge/bar atrium (which does get noisy occasionally - especially if there are family groups with small children waiting to get a night flight!) This communal area is well furnished with plenty of armchairs, a tv lounge, a bar and an internet PC. (This is incidentially where breakfast is served daily) The rooms were spacious, though quite old fashioned with pastel pink walls, carpets and bedcovers. They do however have large balconies, a fridge, phone and tv (and somewhat erratic air conditioning) and are kept spotlessly clean. The pool area, which leads down to the beach, is well kept, with lots of marble and flowering shrubs, and plenty of sunbeds - though the pool is one depth only. Non swimmers may prefer the adjacent childrens pool to cool off. The beach side snack/bar and restaurant is very good, and in fact most meals, including evening meals are taken there. The staff are wonderful - very attentive and professional, but also prepared to let their hair down and have fun with the younger children and more flamboyant guests! Mehmet, Siduk, Rasu, Eddie etc, all try very hard to ensure that you have a good time. The hotel appears to be exclusively British - I believe its a Thomas Cook only hotel, and many guests appear to come back year after year, so they are very knowledgeable about where to go and what to do - very useful if you want a British perspective on where to eat or what to see. Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, and whilst the hotel wasn't luxurious it was a good, comfortable and welcoming place to be.
Average
The main problem was the atrium design. you could here every noise from your bedroom, including the late nigh 'entertainment.' Food was not great. Beds were uncomfortable and the rooms dated. The location was good and the staff were very friendly, but there are a lot of better hotels in Icmeler. Icmeler itself is very quiet, but clean. A nice place to chill, but I would advise going out as much as you can on day trips. Our tour rep advised us not to book with the local travel agencies, but we did. They were much cheaper, and no problems at all. It was annoying walking down the streets and being asked, "hello! Where are you from? We have nice prices!" everywhere we went. But you would get that anywhere in a tourist hotspot. If you want more nightlife, than Marmaris is better, but stay near the ocean. Places inland are not good at all. For food, both Marmaris and Icmeler were expensive. You should look for local places with no English people, usually where old Turkish men hang out. The food is often better and a third of the price. In Icmeler, they were at the bottom of the road, near the main road to Marmaris. Really friendly people too.
