Golfing Weekend
from Damien_and_Kate_UK
Stayed here as part of a golfing stag weekend at the end of May and the hotel completely failed to deliver on a variety of fronts. I URGE everyone to read previous reviews and to take heed of their advice ! The website is truly not an accurate reflection of the hotel. It is badly run by people who were trying to do their best but just completely failed due to incompetence or inexperience. Decor of the rooms was dire - 1970's timewarp. Our room was so hot that I really struggled to sleep - it would take 13 pints of beer to get a good nights' sleep on one of those beds. The restaurant was god awful in terms of the service and quality of food. The standard menu had a very poor selection of starters - what was delivered was miniscule to say the least. One of the dishes was a small plate with 2 lettuce leaves, a dollop of cottage cheese with 4 tiny strips of salmon on top! A main meal was chicken curry with rice... basically warmed up coronation chicken with plain Uncle Bens rice. Dreadful. As with previous reviews the only good thing from that restaurant was breakfast = although I've had better from travel inns. The waiters were foreign students here to make some money and to be fair they worked tirelessly despite their lack of skill and ability. A number of them spilt gravy over shirts, struggled to get potatoes onto plates and didnt really have that good level of customer service you'd expect from a good hotel. All in all, whatever bargain deal you got for this place, please don't go in thinking it can't be that bad... it is. You're paying for it's worth. AVOID.
Horrendous Healthlands

We stayed for one night in the hotel in a standard double room!!, what you see on the Healthlands website is not what you get ! the refurbishment money was clearly invested in the website rather than the hotel itself. Our portable TV was very small and then channel selection was non-existent . The floor boards spoke to us regularly and the "GYM" was like no “GYM” we have ever been too, a gym without much equipment and the spa was out of order. We had our own personal alarm at 1.00 am and first thing in the morning which we believe was the generator. Good luck with your stay !!!!!
worst night sleep ever!

We stayed at the Heathlands hotel after a Christmas Party. The party itself was excellent and the staff could not be faulted - opening the bar each time our party wanted drinks up to 4 am. We requested a refurbished room and got one as a previous reviewer said it was very Ikea! The room was clean and everything had bee re furbished. The first disappointment was the shower, when you turned the temperature up to hot the water pressure disappeared completely. (I had to hold the shower head against my head to wash the shampoo out! Later that night we discovered just how uncomfortable the bed was, it was the smallest double bed ever and was incredibly hard. also the toilet in the room continually made flushing noises throughout the night! All in all I would not stay here again.
Stay away!

I stayed here last weekend and I was really shocked by the state of the room we stayed in, the outside of the hotel was also very dated looking so I got a bad feeling about the place before we even entered. On the hotel's website the only picture's of the bedrooms we saw were really modern, with 'ikea type' furniture and generally clean and unfussy, just what we were looking for. However when we got to our room I honestly felt like I had walked into a timewarp!! Flowery bedspread and curtains, horrible furniture that hadn't been changed since 1970, TV was the size of a postage stamp, our room looked out onto a flat roof and the kitchens. The pillows were horrible, I got a bad nights sleep and I think they were to blame!!! The shower curtain wasn't even long enough so the bathroom was flooded. We had no bath, have never been in a hotel room without a bath before! To top it all off, I got the impression that the room was not that clean (having a worked as a chember maid myself I know what clean is!!), the shower was in a real state, the whole room basically needs to be gutted. The only good thing about the hotel is the breakfast which was included in the price (we payed £50 for a standard double room), you could have a full English or a continental. I understand that some of the rooms have been renovated so maybe that's what they have shown on the website but really the room we paid for was over-priced for what it was, I would have prefered a travel lodge!
Tired and dated

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Heathlands with my wife. Location is good, with the town and beaches about a 10 minute walk away. Staff were friendly and efficient, particularly during breakfast time where the food was served in typical help yourself buffet style. The quality of the food was OK. First impression of the reception, lounge and bar area didn't seem too bad on arrival but that impression changed when we got to our double room. Creaking floorboards, creaking old bed, dated and worn out furniture and floor coverings, poor state of repair in the bathroom, and a TV stand that was so close to the floor that only one person could view it properly from the double bed. On closer inspection the whole hotel is in need of some refurbishment and updating and it must be questionable whether it still has a 3 Star rating. There are better hotels in Bournemouth for the price - give this one a miss.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Heathlands. The hotel is welcoming and the reception is helpful and polite although at busy times it takes a good few minutes before the phone is answered. Parking space is available. It is only five minutes walk from the sandy beaches and a further five minutes walk to the town centre. The breakfast is a lovely spread both for continental and cooked full english with cheeses fruit pastries etc. The Hotel bar is open and serves draught as well as bottled beer and various spirits and soft drinks. The hotel restaurant serves a three course dinner and a good selection of wines is available. As can be expected prices are higher than the usual pubs. The pool is small and is situated outdoor. Did not get the chance to take advantage of the health suite or the spa. The standard double room has a double bed, wardrobe, dressing table & tea/coffee making facilities. An average size room with an ensuite. We had to request for a fan as the room was too warm to sleep in for some reason. Overall I would say the hotel is average for its three star rating and we got what we paid for.
Good Value.

I looked at several hotels in Bournemouth on various web sites. I only required 1 double for one night, so I was not too worried about having a large room with a four poster bed, or air conditioning, or sea veiws etc.. I looked at the De Vere which was advertising a standard room at £168 per night, plus £10 per night for the car park. I looked at several other Hotels, and then at Heathlands which was a total of £45 for the night. This was for a standard double room, and included a full breakfast with free car parking. I chose Heathlands. If you don't mind a few squeaky floorboards here and there, and one or two minor fixtures and fittings that have - let's say - "a character of their own", then this Hotel is well worth considering. The reception area was pleasant enough At breakfast, the resturant food and service was very good. The staff were well trained, polite and helpful. An extra bonus for those who liked dancing was the 'Sunday Club'. This was a private dance club using the ballroom, but with Hotel Guests welcome. A mix of ballroom, sequence, and latin, with some salsa, line-dance and disco too. Overall a good value hotel, where I would stay again.

You need to be fit if you want to walk from the hotel to the town centre which is located on the west cliffe, I suppose you can always grab a taxi or use the local transport. Lovely clean hotel normal run of the mill bedroom/bathroom with shower. My room had a hairdryer,tea/coffee making facilities. There was some evening entertainment. You know what they say "Save the best till last" The restaurant, the food was absoluteley fantastic, presentation brilliant, service exquisit, could not fault it. Overall a lovely pleasant hotel on a reasonably quiet road.
