Just returned from a short break at Gleneagles. Apparently now under new management, we found all the staff friendly and helpful. The meals were excellant and catered for most tastes. The hotel entrance, lounge and dinning area were quite impressive but that's where it... more

The trueth and nothing but the trueth
In my career I have seen and stayed in a lot of hotels. I have stayed in far better, but also in far worse properties. I first booked this hotel and read the reviews on this site later. My reaction was: "What have I let myself into?". So not to mention that I was a little apprehensive when I arrived at the Gleneagels. I have stayed here for a week now (I'm actually writing this review from my hotel room) and I have the impression that some people who wrote some of the texts are either embedded with a vivid imagination, skilled liars,... more
Warning: don't go there!
The worst hotel I have had the misfortune to visit in years. We were there to celbrate a family wedding in Torquay. Your spirits sink when you see this hotel. There is cracked glass on most of the balconies, and a very small, tight carpark. Our room was sandwiched between the kitchen and the mens toilets. It smelt and felt so fusty that I slept in my clothes rather than be undressed in there. Although it was a family room they had only supplied the same number of towels as for our single friend in another room. The... more
Great stay
Looking at some previous reviews on TripAdvisor I was slightly aprehensive about arriving at Gleneagles. The website looks fantastic and to be honest, a lot of the negative comments are down to personal taste. I booked Gleneagles because I wanted somewhere slightly out of Torquay and I was very impressed. As a Best Western I expected it to be up to a certain standard and it certianly was. There's no denying that the public areas have clearly had massive refurbishment with the bedrooms a little further behind but my room was clean and... more
Happy Holiday !
A lovely Hotel. Clean, comfortable throughout. Room was a good size with everything we needed - blankets not duvet though. Balcony was nice - clean and comfortable chairs. Staff were very helpful, friendly - but not intrusive. Operations manager - fully involved in day to day running and was most helpful. Pleasant relaxed bar/lounge area. Breakfast - good enough. Most of all we liked the location - quiet but within walking distance of the town. Lovely walk through the gardens down to the coast and the Downs. Look forward... more
Torquay circa 1973
I required a hotel for one night only in Torquay, and having previously had a less than perfect experience at The Imperial I thought I would try Hotel Gleneagles. The price seemed very reasonable: 60GBP B&B and one instantly forgot “if it seems to good to be true, then it is!” To the front of the hotel is a small car park with perhaps enough spaces for just under half of the rooms the hotel offers. The building is clad with blue glass and steel balustrade, and some weatherboarding that seemed to have dropped off in parts. The first... more
Do not stay here - unsafe !!
We stayed here for my 21st Birthday and we were so disapointed! Looking at the pictures on the websire and in their brochures we expected alot more. I can not fault the reception and Bar as downstairs was decorated to a very high stanadard - wish this had extended to the bedrooms. I think we posibly had the worst room in the hotel. Our balcony was a helath and safetly issue! It slopped downwards and was help up by a rotting wooden joist! There was also water coming from the floor tiles, The room its self was very cold... more
View amazing shame about the hotel
We have just returned from a 3 night break at The Gleneagles Hotel and quite honestly if it wasn't for the fact that Torquay is so amazing I would have left after the first night. The hotel downstairs has obviously undergone refurbishment and to be fair to the hotel is very pleasant. This is more than can be said for the majority of the staff that work there with the exception of the night portman who was extremley friendly and helpful. The room we had was a sea view and this was the best part of the hotel. The room itself is... more
Best Western???? This is a joke
I have just come back from the Hotel Gleneagles. Thank the lord we had only booked one night. On first sight I wanted to turn around and leave, it looked rundown and unkempt. My partner went in to check it out before taking me in (I am in a wheelchair). He came back and said "It looks quite nice inside". We went in and I was pleasantly surprised. The public area is Very tastefully designed. Beautiful in fact. Them we were given the key to our room. No help was offered with the cases. Told were the room was, not shown. <br... more
Comfortable short break
Have just returned from a long weekend break at Gleneagles. We would recomend it for its friendly staff both at reception and in the dining room and bar. It was wonderful to be served by staff with a sense of humour and a willingness to please (amiably led by Operations Manager Trev) The decor on the ground floor was excellent but, although clean and comfortable the bedroom looked a little tired. We would certainly recommend the Gleneagles and would definately stay there again.
The Perfect Weekend Break
We have just come back from a long weekend in Torquay where we had a fantastic stay at the Hotel Gleneagles. Although we were weary by the time we'd travelled down to the Westcounrty we felt totally relaxed once we got to our room in the hotel, thanks to the quick service and helpful staff. The hotel itself was beyond expectations as it appears to have had a recent re-fit.. in fact the whole of the ground floor, including Bar and restaurant looked (and smelt) brand new! Our room was just what the doctor ordered with a beautiful sea view... more
