This is most definitely the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff were most unhelpful & were often rude & surly.
The room was filthy & the bed linen looked as if it had not been changed since the previous guest.
The food was self-service and there were always queues (reminiscent of school dinners.) And it was very bland and unappetising.
I would strongly not recommend this hotel to anyone &cannot understand why it bears an AA star rating.

The outside looks very nice but the inside needs a full refurb. Lounge and bar area cold, dining room hot. The arrival was a farce. Two coaches arrived at the same time and all the keys were laid out with names on them. Then when you had your key you had to find your own way to your room.
The room was okay and the cleaners did a good job, but when it rained, a leaking gutter above meant that the rain dripped constantly and loudly all night.
We had a free bar for three hours each night, but the bar staff were very rude and sometimes refused to serve 10 minutes before the free bar closed. You had to keep the same glass all night and return it to the bar if you wanted another drink. Each person had to go to the bar for their own drink (they even tried to make a disabled lady go for hers).
The evening entertainment was awful and we chose to sit in the lounge instead.
The food was quite good but not a great deal of variety, although the staff in the dining room were the best in the hotel.
Leaving was a bigger farce than arriving. On the day of departure, five coaches were leaving at the same time but the hotel refused to open the dining room before 8am for breakfast. As we had to have breakfast and be on the coach by 9am, a very long queue started to form at 7am. When the doors opened it was mayhem.
Fortunately there were some very nice friendly people on the coach and we had a good time in Torquay, but I can honestly say I would never return to this Hotel.

Staff very helpful but rooms and services certainly sub standard.
Bath panel rotting out, window wouldn't open and shower temperature devoid of any control.
Meal times very restrictive and akin to a works canteen layout.
Cabaret night was more like amateur karaoke.
Second visit in 5 years but shaln't go again.

We found the Rainbow hotel on the website which is very misleading to say the least. My family had to spend a week at the hote, the rooms were dirty, only one bath towel and one hand towel per room and we had to keep going down to reception to ask for more.
The first night was more an 18 - 30 hen/stag party bedlam from mid night onwards. Vomit in the corridors, broken window, the hotel staff had to find the men who did all this. Our children from 3yrs- 6yrs were awake all night due to the men running up and down the corridors shouting and slamming doors. The rooms are old and in great need of decorating in fact the whole hotel needs a refurb.
The entertainment was shabby and the most enjoyable part of our stay was spent in another hotel we would sit in there so we did not have to go back to ours. When you can only afford a holiday once a year it's very disappointing. The holiday wasn't cheap and gutted that we wasted our holiday, time and money at this hotel. Once again you have been warned.

Staff great, however the hotel food and accommodation did not live up to standard. Travelling with friends… when we arrived to our rooms, cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, one stank of stale smoke and we had to open the bedroom windows and as for our window if we wanted it open we had to prop it open with our bible!
Breakfast ok but the choice for the 5 nights was the same for the entire holiday. Cottage Pie, Mousakka, duck and some sort of puff pie with filling that’s it! I won't be returning, don't usually bother to post reviews but felt this was a definite must. You have been warned.

Booked a 2 night stay at the Rainbow International Hotel for a break with my husband.
Our room was ok, Clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the swimming pool which we had to ourselves and even though it was singles night in the Rainbow club on our first night, we had a good laugh.
The hotel was nicely decorated throughout and the breakfast was lovely. All the staff were helpful and friendly.
Ideally situated in Torquay, would recommend to everyone to visit!

Absolutely Fantastic!
I very rarely write a review about hotels I've stayed in, however this is an exception to the rule. The staff, facilities and general atmosphere were superb throughout our stay in the Rainbow Hotel.
The bar staff were friendly and we had some fantastic nights out in the Rainbow Club. Along with this, the food was consistently good and we will be sure to recommend this hotel to friends and family in the future.
Thanks for a great stay!

We recently went to Torquay and having looked at other hotels in the area, decided to stay at the Rainbow Hotel as it is in a good location. We booked for 5 nights. Sadly 1 night was more than enough. The first room we were given was dank and smelt of stale cigarettes.
The bathroom was in a poor state, with a rotting wooden bath panel and poor pipework, complete with yellow mouldy stains on the walls. We asked to try a non-smoking room but this was worse, down in what seemed like the basement. This had stained bedding and had not been cleaned properly, with sweet wrappers etc still remaining from the last guests. We ended up in another room, which was little better, and decided to check out the next morning.
Overall, the Rainbow Hotel looks very inviting, but inside it is very tired and dirty and in need of renovation. This is not acceptable accommodation and not worthy of a 3 star rating. Other guests we met were very unhappy with their rooms but, unlike us, they were on an organised trip and could not go elsewhere.
We made our comments known to the manager when we checked out, but were told that they had many satisfied customers and no offer of a refund or compensation was made. We will not be returning! The best thing about the hotel was the bar staff and the helpful night porter/receptionist, who remained cheerful despite everything!

After reading numerous reviews on the internet, we considered cancelling our holiday, however we decided to give it a go and see for ourselves. I am glad we did not cancel the booking as it was a great stay and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The hotel has all the facilities needed for a short break, the bedroom was in need of updating, but it was clean. The staff were all excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The meals were also very nice, it is buffet style so we did have to queue, but the queue was never too long, so we did not mind this. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and are glad we did not cancel it due to the bad reviews written.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will definately stay here again.
