Stayed 14th August 11, for 3 nights, room 105 for a special birthday celebration, BIG disappointment, stair carpets very worn, TV very out dated, no text, no use to anyone hard of hearing. Shower did'nt work (run cold) complained, nothing done, had to use swimming pool showers, extractor fan in bath room not working, also reported, still no joy.
Only had 1 dinner in hotel (thankfully) vegetables so hard could not even cut them, complained to waiter, he took them away, never saw him again!!!
Very pricey, not worth the money, if you do intend to stay at this hotel DO NOT have breakfast or dinner, food is very poor, even the fried eggs were not cooked enough!
We had left our dog in room while eating, (with dog sign on door) we found that the turn down service had been in, left plain chocolates on our bed and given one to our dog, has no training been given to staff about chocolate being poisonous to dogs???
Joshua Randall answers review page, perhaps he should pull his socks up and deal with complaints at the time of your stay!!!
Having spoken to locals & restaurant owners, they roll there eyes and quote: " the Grand hotel is anything but Grand" unquote.
In all the hotels we have stayed in with our dog in the last five years this is the first bad review I have had to write. We will never stay here again or recommend to anyone!

The Grand does not live up to its name. On arrival we were asked for a card to pay the bill even though we had already paid and it was clear from the piece of paper the receptionist was waving under our noses that it was paid. We were on the 4th floor and weren't told the lift had broken or offered help with the luggage until we asked.
We went to the bar for food. Many people, even families with small children, had waited over an hour for their food. The waiter forgot the drinks order and then, after being reminded, only bought one drink for the two of us. Later we did have a second waiter who was much more switched on and very helpful.
The room was small and shabby. The rooms need refurbishing.
The valet had parked my car, but didn't write on the card attached to the key where it had been parked and so the staff couldn't find it. Eventually we were told it must be near the station and told to find it ourselves.
The next night we stayed in the Imperial. It was half the price and twice as nice.

just spent a weekend at this hotel! its awful, decor in room very dated, bathroom had yellow painted woodwork covered in dust. cleaned the bathroom myself before using it! the worse part was the mattress with big stained, the bottom of it was torn and there was a big board under the mattress, although the sheets were clean, paying best part over £400 for the weekend, it wasnt worth, the room and the hotel felt very dirty and grubby! not a 4 star at all! its awful, awful! trust me, do not waste your money here, there are plenty of good hotels and b and bs in torquay!
