Stunning Hotel!
Wow! What a lovely hotel tucked away in lovely Devon countryside. Very friendly staff who could not have been more helpful or attentive. As it was my boyfriend's birthday we were treated to a free room upgrade..and what a lovely room too! Even heard the resident ghost during the evening! All in all we loved our stay and will def be back. Oh and the food was lovely, we asked to eat in the lounge so we could cosy up in front of the fire and this was not a problem. Would heartily recommend.
What a great hotel!
We stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The hotel is in a lovely location in mid Devon. A wonderful old building with creaking floorboards. We were upgraded without any request to a super room overlooking the front gardens (which are being refurbished), very large with squashy chairs to relax in. Our dog was made very welcome. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Dinner was most enjoyable, intimate dining room and delicious food, service impeccable. Breakfast was excellent. Some super walks... more
Disappointed
We arranged reservation by e-mail and telephoned to confirm. Hotel reservations confirmed rooms and dates available but would respond by e-mail. Dates and slightly different room arrangemnts confirmed but by time we called back to book rooms had been sold to others. Not impressed.
Luxurious and relaxing stay at Lewtrenchard
We booked a two night dinner, bed and breakfast break at Lewtrenchard Manor in June 2006 to celebrate my wife's birthday. It is a truly wonderful place hidden away in a valley. The house and gardens (currently being landscaped) are beautiful and the location very tranquil. We stayed in one of the refurbished suites (Warrington) which boasts its own staircase leading up to the room. The room itself was very spacious and well appointed with a sparkling clean modern bathroom. However, the real highlight of our stay here was the... more
A wonderful two days of luxury!
I decided to have a couple of days on my own to get away from the stresses of life, and was a little worried about going on my own. It turns out that I needn't have worried. All the staff were wonderful, and very helpful. The room I stayed in, Eudoxia was beautiful, and the bed huge! The food was sublime, and well worth visiting just for the 3 course meal... except it wasn't really 3 courses - there were canapes, then pre-starters, then the three courses you order followed by tea/coffee and petit fours! I had the privilege of seeing... more
NICE BUT DIM......
Beautiful historic building, and delightful grounds, in a quiet Devon setting. Our King size room, facing the gardens, was, at first glance, excellent - until darkness fell, and then the gloomy lighting took its toll. A request for a standard lamp produced a minute bedside lamp! However, on all other counts our one night stay was excellent. Delicious food and a lovely dining room, good breakfast, all complemented by an extremely enthusiastic staff, a great tribute as this isn't an independently owned hotel but one of the 21 hotels in... more
Lovely coffee stop!
I haven't stayed here but my wife, father and I enjoyed a most pleasant coffee with home-made biscuits (October 2005) in the lounge/bar here. It really is a lovely old hotel, full of old-world English class and run by very friendly people. The gardens occupied us after our drink and we went away most refreshed. Well worth a visit (and I should certainly imagine a stay here would be lovely!)
A lovely peaceful place
Stayed three nights at Lewtrenchard, and it was heavenly. Beautifully appointed rooms, lovely bathrooms. Loads of books to read as a prior owner left a library behind, local walks are beautiful, and the gardens perfect. Breakfast was superb, and the evening meals a delight, the perfection marred only by the refusal of other guests to live up to a dress code request. They insulted the restaurant by turning up in t-shirts and jeans - not fair to an establishment where nothing is too much trouble, and you feel like an honored guest. I long to... more
An elegant English country house
If you want to feel that you are really experiencing life in an English country house, this charming and historic manor house is the place to stay. Lewtrenchard is very beautiful, built of lovely weathered stone and surrounded by georgous gardens. The rooms are decorated very tastefully, with antiques and pretty fabrics. The food is fabulous. A memorable and heavenly place.
For the true anglophile
If you love English literature, history, countryside, gardens and people, then you'll be in heaven at Lewtrenchard Manor Hotel. One of the most beautiful houses and settings imaginable, this lovely large stone house, Lewtrenchard, has enormous charm, marvelous gourmet meals, and a great location. Close to Dartmoor and several National Trust properties, it is the ideal spot for really savoring delightful Devon.
