Hotel Description:
The Cephalonia Palace is the ideal hotel for families and couples who want an away-from-it-all holiday. This beautiful hotel is located on the deep red sandy Xi beach for which the island is famous. Hiring a car to explore the island is worthwhile, but if you want to relax, the stunning four-kilometer stretch of sandy Xi beach is just 50 m from the hotel. loading...

The hotel was clean & friendly (except for one rude receptionist all the other staff were great!). The food was well varied and very fresh. Men have to wear trousers for dinner which is quite nice as we felt we could all dress up for the evening!
We had a problem as soon as we got there - the bathroom flooded with sewerage (my wedding dress was hanging up in there to steam, luckily I had left it in it's bag!!!) but they sent someone out within a couple of hours to fix it and the cleaners came straight in to clean & freshen the place up. We had a couple of other problems, but everything was sorted out very quickly.
The 'family room' we had was a small room with 3 single beds in it, so as you can imagine having a 2 year old with us was not fun! He woke up everytime we went the loo or made a drink - we spent most evenings on the balcony!!
We wouldn't recommend this hotel after the 2nd week of September as they start to close up (1st week in October is the last week of the season apparently). They removed alot of the sun beds & chairs etc... There were 2 weddings on when we were there, one was a Greek Wedding which didn't start until about 10pm and went on until about 4am (loud music, dancing etc...) so there were a few complaints as you can imagine!
This is an ideal hotel if you don't want nightlife or restuarants. There are 2 tavernas on the beach but then there is nothing else except in the town of Lixouri which is about 5 miles away! A long walk!!! A taxi journey to Lixuori was between 5 & 8 Euros each way. The ferry across to Argostoli was 4 euros for a car & about 1 euro & 70c each person (each way) on top of the car price!! We drove all the way round most days as there was 4 of us and it worked out cheaper in fuel than the cost of the ferry but the ferry took 25 mins and the car journey took 50mins to an hour (nice scenery when driving & taking the ferry!).
Besides the distance from our friends & relatives in Lassi and the lack of nearby entertainment / restaurants the place was very good. The beach was only about 50 metres away and was really quiet at that time of year.
I can imagine there being more entertainment on in the hotel in high season as not much happened whilst we were there (a couple of quizzes & a game of bingo).
The pool was nice & clean and there was a pool bar which wasn't too expensive.
We'd give it 8/10 for the food, 9/10 for cleanliness and 4/10 for location. 8/10 overall.
