Dartmoor Lodge Hotel reviews

3 / 10
Jan 2012, sleepy traveller

This is obviously a hotel that depends on running functions and having hotel rooms to allow people to get drunk at those functions and not drive home. Everything is slightly shabby and the entire hotel is plagued with noise pollution from their own restaurant and function... more

We have stayed several times at this hotel and have experienced some kind of problem each time. This week, for example, young staff took advantantage of an absent manager which resulted in such poor service in the restaurant, that we left and drove down the road to eat in another hotel! However, we do return each time because of the hotel's good points. It's quiet, in a good location and the rooms are reasonably equipped. The biggest bonus, though, is the 'buy one get one free' offer currently available up to the end of September.... more
Worried about what we would find
We arrived for a one night stay in a double room on a Saturday night with breakfast. We were concerned about what we would find on arrival, however the receptionist was quick and courteous. Our room was tired but did have matching bed cover and curtains.I checked the sheets and they were clean.Carpets do need to be replaced ,and the bathroom, although everthing worked needed updating. There was a tea tray and toiletries in the bathroom. However when we rang to book we were informed that the hotel was awaiting a refit and was looking a bit... more
One Night was enough
We booked 2 nights and reluctantly stayed one night because of the late time of arrival. On booking in we were treated in an offhand manner but this paled into insignificance when we were shown our room. The room and the toilet had very obviously not been cleaned. The walls and the carpet through out the hotel reflected what we found in our room. An alternative dark room was offered on the ground floor with the only light coming from some small windows near the ceiling. Water continually ran into the toilet, echoing back into the... more
Clean, Comfortable and Food Excellent
After reading some of the terrible reviews for the Dartmoor Lodge, I was abit concerned about what I was letting myself in for, having booked 3 nights stay. I needn't have worried. We were greeted at reception and made to feel welcome, and the 4-poster double room was comfortable, clean and quiet. We booked a table at the in-house restaurant where the service was quick and the food was delicious, so good in fact that we ate in for all 3 nights of our stay. The bar is cosy and the place has a friendly ambience, we felt very much at home... more
Don't be put off
Having read the dreadfull reviews this hotel has received when faced with the task of finding an inn in this area at short notice I was sort of drawn towards giving it a go. We stayed for two nights, check-in was easy, they were expecting us we did not have to search out anyone and were soon in our comfortable double room with all the services required for a pleasant stay in this wonderful part of the country. Having also read of some poor remarks with regards to the food on offer we were most pleasantly surprised to be faced with... more
fawlty towers - at best
we booked this hotel for 2 nights as we were going to a wedding in the area, it was truely terrible, do not no matter what stay here. friends of ours were up the road in the dartbridge inn - a much better bet. Our room was as follows - a 4 poster bed with a matress with absolutely no support - i am 7 months pregnant and i don't know if my back will ever recover. there was no duvet, just 2 smelly blankets, ughhh, i shudder even now thinking about it Bathroom - all i can say is the toilet brush was disgusting, tiling poor - shower... more
Renovation - my arse!!!
Stayed at this dump last week - the web-site can only be described as fraudulent - if this place had a complete makeover in 2004 then the builder and decorator that undertook the task should be shot - the place is just awful. The local scenery is just stunning from coast to the moors - if anyone is thinking of going to this area consider the YHA in Salcombe, basic, but everything you need and the view simply to die for. Avoid Dartmoor Lodge - like the plague
Awful & Expensive
DO NOT STAY HERE. It was simply awful. Rooms were dirty, ant ridden and cost us £80 for one night. Terrible.
Hovel NOT Hotel...
This was the longest we have ever had to travel for a pint of cider. We stayed one hour of our three nights booking. The place was dirty and the service was poor. No-one at reception on arrival and the bar staff ignored us. Wall paper peeling off the walls in the MFI style four poster non-smoking bedroom that stunk of stale smoke. The dining area resembled a greasy cafe and the bar area was filthy. I dont know about a face lift, the whole place needs pulling down.
Dartmoor Lodge - no thanks
Take my advice - do not stay at the Dartmoor Lodge. We booked a family room which was a basic, scruffy, dated room with a dirty sofa bed for my son. A youth hostel would have been far more comfortable and probably a lot cheaper too. The breakfast was horrid, we couldn't wait to leave, the only low point of our holiday.
