Che Bellezza in Venezia!
My wife and I were on our dream 5-week honeymoon in early May 2006 in bella Italia. Our last stop was in beautiful Venezia and our hotel was the Hotel Al Ponte dei Sospiri. This is a four-star hotel so it is expensive (but Venice is generally much more expensive than most places). However, it’s location is excellent – it’s literally right around the corner from Piazza San Marco which is the main square in Venice. It’s just behind the Basilica. Essentially the hotel takes it’s name from the famous Bridge of Sighs or il Ponte dei Sospiri which we were able to see from our room. The hotel is a small boutique type hotel with only 8 rooms but all the rooms are junior suites so they are very nice. We stayed in the Contarini which is on the second floor – it’s probably the best room of the eight and is especially great for honeymooners or couples that want a nice romantic room. Mind you, I don’t think you can go wrong with any room in this place from what I saw on their website. As honeymooners, we were welcomed with a cool bottle of Prosecco. It was a nice touch. The Contarini room had several windows overlooking the canal Rio Canonica Palazzo and two of these had small balconies. You can watch the gondaliers pass by doing their thing. We even saw some construction boats pass by so you can get a good taste of everyday life in Venice. The Contarini room as all the other rooms in this hotel is finished in a brocade so you definitely get a nice Venetian ambiance. There’s also a gorgeous Murano glass chandelier and a nice poster bed. Plus, there’s a LCD TV with several satellite stations. An interesting thing to mention is that there is no breakfast hall – each guest gets served directly in their room. You preorder your breakfast and leave the request outside your door the night before. The next morning you get your food selection and by the time you request it. It’s great having breakfast in your room, eating cornetti or brioches with caffe latte in a bathrobe with the windows opened listening to the sounds of Venice. It was certainly memorable. It is very difficult to find a nice place in Venice unless you book very early. I originally found out about the Hotel Al Ponte dei Sospiri on Trip Advisor and I was certainly not disappointed. You are always going to find some people that were disappointed for one reason or another. You will always have expectations, especially when you are spending a lot per night. However, Venice is generally very expensive (as is Rome) so you must compare locally and not to what you get for that money in North America. Venice is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world and we truly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Al Ponte dei Sospiri.
Very Nice Room & Location
We just got back from a quick tour of Italy and had a junior suite at the Hotel al Ponte dei Sospiri in Venice (as well as a triple room at 213 San Marco, their overflow rooms in a building roughly 100 yards from the hotel). The Junior Suite in the Hotel al Ponte dei Sospiri for we had in the main hotel was very -very- nice and I can recommend it. The view from the room we had wasn't great, but we did have a corner room and it was very ornate with an outstanding bathroom with alot of space. The junior suite we had included a beautiful queen size bed, a sofa with 2 chairs sitting area, a very modern LCD TV, and just a great feel to it. Very traditional settings. The breakfast - ehh, it was okay, nothing to rave about, the usual continental fare. But the location and rooms more than made up for it. Location - just (literally) around the corner from Piazza San Marco!
Fantastic
Have just returned from first trip to Venice and ehjoyed every minute of it. Found this hotel on here and was really impresed by the reviews. Having booked direct with the hotel, we were able to choose which suite to stay in. The hotel staff were so friendly and helpful, they couldn't do enough for us. We had a suite with balcony - Ducale - which looked out over the canal and the Bridge of Sighs. The decor is very impresive - we had a four poster bed. The hotel is in the heart of the city, just 2 minutes from St Mark's Square. The whole experience was amazing. We will definitely go back to this hotel and have recommended it to friends. A real joy
Beautiful hotel and very helpful staff!
We loved our room at the Ponte Sospiri. Laura and Renato were so nice and helpful, they had so many suggestions for wonderful restaurants. The room was absolutely gorgeous, it most well-appointed throughout our stay in Italy. And it is conveniently located 5 minutes from Doge's Palace, I think St Mark's square. Lastly, this was my second trip to Venice. My personal favorite thing about this hotel is that you can take a water taxi directly to the front door. There is nothing worse than being tired from travel and being lost in Venice trying to find your hotel!
Great location
Great hotel 2 mins from St Marks Square and within view of the Bridge of Sighs (although not from our room). All rooms are junior suites with wonderful decor, chandeliers, marble floors, jacuzzi bath etc. A lovely breakfast is served in your room as there are no public rooms- it's main drawback as you don't get to meet other guests at all. But why are most hotels not geared up to cope with a third guest in a room? We had our teenage daughter with us and then had to ask for an extra bathrobe, slippers and even breakfast on the first morning. Staff are very friendly and pleasant though.
Excellent Hotel
Just returned from a weekend at the al ponte dei sospiri in venice. This hotel is within 2 minute walk of st.marks square, which is a major plus as your right in the centre of the tourist area, the hotel itself was magnificent. The rooms are spacious & beautifully decorated, with large bathroom that has jacuzzi bath ( excellent after a long day's walking ). The service was excellent, & the breakfast served to your room every morning can not be beat. Overall i give this hotel, 10 out of 10, lovely hotel for a romantic break in venice.
Highly recommended
I have just come back from a very enjoyable trip to Venice. We found this hotel on an internet search and from it's website it looked impressive. We weren't disappointed! The location is superb - a couple of minutes and you are in St Mark's Square. There are plenty of places to eat nearby and the tourist menus especially are reasonably priced. Although the hotel doesn't have a dining room, this is one of the plus points, as breakfast is served in your room at the time you specify up to 10.30am - very civilised. If you eat it all, you certainly won't need lunch! The staff were all friendly and helpful too, so I can recommend the hotel, and I shall certainly use it again.
Gorgeous and great location!
My wife and I honeymooned in this hotel. The location cannot be beat. The room was spacious with a wonderful bathroom. Every morning an excellent breakfast was delivered to our room. The hotel is located just behind St. Marks and right down from the Bridge of Sighs.
Epitomises all that is beautiful about Venice
We stayed in the Pisani suite for 3 nights in April. The weather wasn't very good but I was quite happy to take shelter in our fabulous hotel room! Elaborate Murano glass chandeliers, balcony with canal view (just!), high ceilings with ornate wall / curtain fabrics and a jacuzzi bath - so typically Venetian and perfect for a romantic holiday. Location cannot be faulted, right next to St Mark's Square and as the hotel name suggests, the Bridge of Sighs. Hotel staff were welcoming and breakfast is served in your bedroom at the time you request each morning. We loved Venice and this hotel was definitely one of the highlights - stay here!
Absolutely lovely! A true find!
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in October in the Ducale Suite and loved every minute of it. Our balcony overlooked the bridge of Sighs and the breakfast in our room each morning was the best we've had. A bit pricey, but well worth the cost in such a city of love. The staff were nice and friendly and recommended great local restaurants and cafes. We'll be back as soon as we can.
