Bristol Hotel reviews

Now, I'm sure that when we're old & grey(er), we'll be glad of a nice rest home in which to enjoy our final years. But we don't expect to pay £109 a night for this authentic experience when we're still under 50 and hoping for a couple of night's relaxation in the comfort... more

Clean and comfortable
My work booked me in here at the last minute as I had business in town. £85 B&B The Bristol is right on the sea front -with a pedestrian crossing directly outside to get closer to the sea! Its a stones throw from the commercial centre of Newquay. I was a bit worried about staying close to the centre as i had heard much about noise and drunken people but this was a good position close enough to go and get a pint in Wetherspoons but far enough away from the bar circuit to not get any noise. The people on the desk were helpful and... more
Old fashioned and genteel
Other reviewers have said that the Bristol is "living in the past", which I think might be a bit harsh, but it certainly is old fashioned, and as far as I can tell, it is very deliberately that way to appeal to the OAP coach tour market. Unlike a lot of formerly grand 1920s hotels, the Bristol is not shabby and falling apart. Everything is clean and well maintained, the paintwork is fresh and the carpets, curtains etc look new. What they haven't done is modernise it; the hotel looks very much as it might have done in the 1920s. I... more
Lovely old building
The hotel is located in a great position on the cliffs at the north east side of Newquay so it's quiet but easily accessible for the town centre. Lovely building on the outside but rather dated inside. Front facing rooms have a fantastic sea view but as we had a standard room we were at the back so viewing the car park and residential area. Bins emptied early mornings - this woke us up. Rooms were rather dated and drab - same for the swimming pool. Staff were friendly and polite but no help getting our luggage to our room on the 3rd floor.... more
nice ocean views
Really nice ocean views, open the window and hear the waves, Other than that.. it's a wee bit shabby..olde world.. but the stunning views and central location really are a bonus
Living in the past
I stayed here for one night on my way further down to Penzance. There are nice sea views and as I had paid for a superior room I rather expected to get one, but I didn't. It didn't bother me as I was only there for a short time but I still can't think what was supposed to be superior about the room. The hotel staff are friendly and polite but the place is living in the past. They think the hotel is up-market, but it isn't. It's just average. For example, my 'superior' room didn't have a bath, just a shower. That's fine, but hardly superior.... more
