The view from our bedroom window. Relaxing outside the pool complex in the late October sunshine. Very big bed - quite comfortable.

Christmas Party
Have just been to The Budock Vean for one of their Christmas party nights. Dinner, live music, disco, bed & breakfast. The setting is lovely and the hotel extremely comfortable. Great swimming pool- dont forget to take the towels from your room. We had a superior room, which was fine - bathroom probably not quite to the same standard- although lots of Molton Brown goodies.Lovely meal even though it was mass catering for the party. Maybe because it was a party night there was a very relaxed atmosphere and the dress code was smart but not excessive. As the organiser for our group, I found the hotel very helpful and kept to all our pre-agreed arrangements - something that has not always happened in the past with other establishments.
amazing setting too expensive
We spent 10 days with our dog and were amazed by the beauty of the area. The food was mostly good and the service was efficient but impersonal. One of the mornings at breakfast I had to point out that the grapefruit halfs were mouldy and old. The rooms and bathrooms are ok (some v.noisy-we were changed rooms first one was quiet second was in a very noisy part of the hotel). Other half loved the golf and it was very very relaxing place to be. However the 10 days cost almost £2,000 which was too much money for the service and food and presentation of the rooms.
Wonderful hotel!
Have finally stayed here after being forced out of my house by paint fumes (redecorating in progress). Room excellent, Molton Brown goodies supplied as standard, food excellent. Best fish I've eaten in ages, strongly recommend smoked haddock for the breakfast. Classy hotel, great for golfers especially, wonderful place to relax and forget your troubles!
We finally made it!
After two years of waiting and reading everything this website had to offer, we finally had our three days at Budock Vean. It was all we could hope for. As Americans, many of the more formal customs at Budock Vean were unfamiliar to us, but we were never made to feel out of place or out classed. The food alone was worth the cost, and after a week in tiny B & B rooms, the space in our standard room was an incredible gift. When we booked, we were given the only room available, so we were not expecting the plushness we found. Even though our view was mediocre the room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Since this was our splurge on a two-week budget trip to Cornwall, I was especially pleased that laundry facilities were provided for the guests. I was able to clean our clothes and not have to feed coins into a machine. We played golf with no problem, were not even asked for handicap, etc. However, we played in the afternoon to avoid competing for a valuable morning tee time. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the entire three days was wonderful! Would we go back again? If we win the lottery. Was it worth the cost? Oh yes!!!
What a wonderful Hotel
We stayed at this hotel for a few days in February 2005. What a wonderful place. I had tried to book a superior room but none was available. I need not have worried, the standard room we had was delightful. I particularly liked the evening dress code, which reflected the very special atmosphere of the restaurant. I cannot praise the service highly enough. The staff were both friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. My wife had two very relaxing treatments at the spa. The therapists were fantastic. Add to all of this a superb location and we just can't wait to return.
Don;t change a thing
Having read all the comments about Budock Vean Hotel and having stayed there twice, I cannot find a fault with the place. As an older couple we really appreciate that the hotel is possibly geared more towards older people and go there to try and escape from families who seem to want to take over everything. My wife and I thoroughly enjoy dressing up for dinner and it all helps to make the holiday that little bit more special. There are plenty of hotels for the scruffs and families, carry on Budock Vean and change nothing you're on to a winning formula.
Pure relaxation and lots of pampering!
I have just returned from a truly fantastic weekend spent at Budock Vean to celebrate my birthday. I have 2 children under 11 but for myself and my husband we were looking for a place that was totally different to the norm and where we would be treated with that individual personal touch. He likes to play golf and I wanted to be pampered. I can confirm that we got that and more. From the time of arrival until departure, I felt the staff treated us with the utmost respect and you felt that nothing was too much trouble. My husband took advantage of the unlimited golf (despite the dodgy weather) on the excellent 9 hole course with no problems re: handicap certificates as a previous reviewer has mentioned. Even though we have children, I must say I did appreciate the fact that children were not really around (having said that though there were a couple of babies and toddlers using the swimming pool facilities at the designated times for them). Yes the hotel was mainly dominated by older people during our stay but we are mid thirties and to be honest the fact we had to dress up for dinner was one of the attractions of staying there as it was a bit of a novelty for us! In fact it was funny one evening when someone walked through the cocktail bar after 7pm in a fleece - there were a few startled looks I can tell you! Excellent food and the silver service was very efficient. We had a couple of spa treatments whilst there and felt again that it was good value for money and the staff were so friendly without being over the top! All in all, if you fancy a week/end away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Budock Vean is definitely the place to go! We'll definitely be saving up our pennies to go back again next year!!
Relaxation at its best
this is one of the most civilised hotels I have stayed in. it was pleasant to have the opportunity to dress for dinner instead of the usual jeans etc. The swimming pool was a generous size unlike many in chains such as Hilton hotels and the snooker table was a bonus. Best of all was the comfortable lounge and calorific afternoon tea!!
Fantastic place
I have just read the review from anonymous who liked Budock Vean, but felt it did not tolerate children, and is basically full of "olds" As someone who has stayed at Buddock on a couple of ocassions with my husband, I would like to put my point of view. We are in our early forties, so we are not exactly "young" but would not consider ourselves quite in the "old" category just yet. There were a number families staying during the same period as ourselves, and I did not feel they were pushed to one side. It does state in the literature about the Hotel, that whilst children are more than welcome there are certain restrictions, and it does state what they are. There are only certain times when the children are not allowed in the pool, but this was not exactly strictly adhered to by the parents when we were there. All parents think that their children are darling little angels, and everyone should go goo goo over them. However, not everyon feels the same. We have older children of our own, so we can appreciate how people with families feel. Unfortunately people with children do not always extend the same understanding of people who do not have young children. It is lovely to be able to go to a place that is not over run with children, as is the case with most places these days. We have met so many people on our travels that feel that these days everyone just caters for the families and somewhere along the line the people travelling without children have been forgotten. Budock Vean is a beautiful hotel that is very well run, with excellent food and a wonderful location. It helps immenseley if you are golfer, which we are not, but we had a wonderful time nevertheless. We look forward to our next visit.
Wonderful setting but stodgy
We just spent a week at Budock Vean with our three children. The location is el primo, with lovely grounds and a decent nine hole golf course, not to mention being within walking distance of Trebah and Glendurgan gardens (both infinitely better than the Eden project). We were the only family at the hotel. The rest of the clientele were well into their retirement years. A crusty atmosphere was pervasive. This is where people come to wear jackets and ties on vacation (they are de rigeur in the evening). Children are bearly tolerated. They are placed in a side room of the restaurant for meals and not welcome in several parts of the hotel, including the pool, for much of the day. This is fine (maybe even a bonus) if you don't like children, and lots of retirees clearly don't. Just don't come here with yours. By the way, bring your handicap card or expect a difficult time being allowed to play golf here.
