" Beautiful late victorian hotel set in... "

Beautiful late victorian hotel set in its own grounds right next to the sea with lovely views.Choice of 5 different types of room depending on budget. We stayed in a 'Select' room with a full ocean view.Alot of money has obviously been spent on upgrading the bathrooms and other facilities and this is ongoing.Have stayed here 3 times and each time we have found that the staff are professional and positive with the food and surroundings perfect.Public areas are large but felt warm and cozy with lovely open fires but there are small lounge areas tucked away if you want to curl up with a book
Couldn't fault anything

" Standards poor for a 4 star. We went... "

Standards poor for a 4 star. We went last year and were impressed by the food which made up for the dated surroundings, drafty room and the smell of damp that seemed to follow you around. This year they seem to have put their money into the Sandbar from which I had trouble ordering a sandwich without the staff getting it wrong or waiting 40 mins for it.
The main dining room - the service was still good but the food was lacking last year’s flavour and presentation. Haphazard in design, Little Chef are obviously missing staff.
Overall poor, still a good site but good location doesn’t mean food and the place where you stay should be sub 4 star. It certainly was in this case. I will not be returning.

" Fantastic Victorian hotel with... "

Fantastic Victorian hotel with stunning views across Fistral beach. Rooms are very comfortable and staff really friendly despite the Victorian Grandeur of the building.
Perfect for a winter surf break as you can walk down to Fistral beach from the hotel and then relax in the warm lounge afterwards with a cream tea and watch the waves.
Not cheap but well worth the treat.

" We booked a suite at the Headland... "

We booked a suite at the Headland Hotel expecting 4 star pampering with a sea view room. However, the sea view was only possible when one stood at the window in between the eves and looked out of the salt splattered window.
The definition of a suite consisted of two mismatching 1970's armchairs and a modern fake wall hanging fire place. The rooms are described as quirky and they most certainly met these criteria in abundance.
The communal areas were vast which made the lack of lighting and dirty seating even more noticeable. There is a distinct lack of staff in these communal areas, however when you do find staff, don't ask for anything out of the ordinary as we overheard the staff making uncomplimentary comments about the other guests when requesting what we considered a fairly standard level of service.
The dinning area is vast and whilst the food was of a good standard the whole affair was lacking due to few guests and little atmosphere.
And on a final note, take care to read the terms and conditions when completing a basic "check in" form, you might be surprised with what you find.
